Trading in $102k donuts is pretty risky, you'll need the second wave of rookie upgrade/downgrades around the byes and some of them even playing to cover missing bye players. As you said there is no guarantee that the current crop of downgrade options will be in their teams for the long term, but there is far more chance than for $102k donuts.
Usually a good chance at picking up a decent 102k'er around the MSD too

This may be hard to believe, but I don't have Taranto in my team. o_O
I was planning on trading Cowan & Mackenzie to Williams & Johnson/Roberts but I can add McKenna to Taranto to the trade table.

Is it worth culling McKenna now for Taranto or hold him a couple more weeks?

I'm holding McKenna for another couple of weeks I think unless he stinks out a 40 or something.

It depends on your other onfield rookies or whether you have a Phillips or something on bench that ccan come on and make the 70 something that McKenna will most likely get you

Finally, are there any other rookies with less money left to make you?

Cowan is an interesting one. I'll be trading him this week because yes, he theoretically has another 50 points to make but it is looking like taking him 6 weeks to do it without a spike game - something which he has shown little prospect of performing. Just can't help thinking though that hell whip out a 85 or something after I trade him and make that 50 k in 3 weeks

Cheaper, better bye and arguably better draw.
Could be argued the points you miss out on if you are missing a premium during the Gold Coast/Geelong bye round when it is normal scoring will hurt you more than if you are missing a premium but only fielding best 18 during all the other clubs bye rounds.

Aren't all bye rounds best 18? Pretty sure I saw that confirmed somewhere..

That is a false statement, please see ruling below with regards to the MBRs scoring which states that ALL bye rounds (R12 to R15 inclusive) are considered as Best 18 scoring rounds.

Someone in either this thread of the in game thread mentioned Caleb Serong. Only 576k and averaging 110 with a round 12 bye. Last 4 weeks have been 100, 146, 101, 146. Challenging draw in the next few weeks but some softer midfield assignments in there and as the apparent chief banana now for Freo should be ok for at least 100 in the tough games. For those playing leagues, his finals series games are Brisbane, Eagles and Port all in Perth, followed by Hawthorn on the G

He's projected to get around 113 this week against WBD in Perth, which will bump his price to 590k. What's the community's view on Caleb as an option?

The Mckenna trade is not something I'm commited to. If he gets his projected score of 70 he'll add another $20k so I'd be quite happy to hold.

Only other rookie I'd consider is Ginbey, but I have faith he's got more money to make, even if he takes a small dip.

Like you, I've had Cowan types before. Do nothing until you trade them, then have their spike game.

Byes a looking pretty good for me this year. I suspect many are in a similar position but I'm pretty heavy in Rd.15 players and while that will move with trading between now and Rd.12, I'll likely have no trouble fielding 20+ for the first three. Splitting out GC and Geel to round 13 has certainly helped matters this year.

Only potential issue is I already have 5 "premo / keepers" with the Rd 15 bye (or 7 if you count Sheezel and Ziebell) so might need to avoid upgrading to any more - makes bringing in Cogs a little more of a question mark over the next two rounds.
