Good on you Wolffy for rediscovering your love of Golf, no new clubs for me for awhile, am still using a Taylormade R7 Driver and 3 wood, Cleveland Launcher 3 Hybrid, 4-8 Irons are Cleveland Hi-Bore Hybrid Irons, 9 iron is my chipper which I chip around the greens with and hit full 9 iron length shots with.
Wedges are Cleveland 588 Tour Action Rusty 60 degree Lob, 56 degree Sand, 53 degree gap, 48 degree Pitching.
Would love to buy a new set but don't really wanna spend 2 or 3 grand when I'm well used to my old set of mongrels lol
What are you using, did you buy a new set?
I would like to hit a few of those new drivers to see how far they go in comparison.

Sounds a lot like where I was starting from. Played a lot as a junior (12-17). First clubs were whatever the pro shop had in LH that they couldn't sell and were happy to cut down. Eventually got a set of King Cobra Oversize irons, which seems they were developed in 1994, but think I got them in 1998.

Didn't play much golf between 2003 and 2022. Got back into golf the last two months. Spent 6 weeks using the King Cobra set. Aside from probably needing some new grips, the 20 years in the garage has hardly aged them. Stainless steel shafts could probably last forever. But after putting my driver next to a mate's 460CC one (my driver was smaller than his sweet spot) and reading online how far golf club technology forgiveness had come, I knew I needed a new setup.
Not sure if supply is still a problem post COVID, but being LH seemed to really cut down the options. Managed to get a great deal on a 13 piece set (12 clubs) of TaylorMade RBZ SpeedLite. Couldn't get the iron shafts in graphite, but it more than ticked every other box.
Since then I have added a set of Macgregor wedges (52 and 60 degrees). Stuck with the 56 degree SW from the TaylorMade set as its a beauty. Wanted to try out the Kirkland wedge set from Costco, but RH only there.
In terms of your driver question, I'm a naturally slicer (weak grip I am continuing to work on), but with the new driver its become a fade rather than a slice, and has added 25m to my drives easy. Last week I played 18 holes at Ivanhoe. Teed off with driver 12 times. Hit 10 fairways. Crazy numbers for a hack like me.
Also got hold of a LH 3H Callaway Mavrik on clearance. (So now I have 15 clubs)

2 iron!!! That's serious skill if you can use that effectively. Anything above my 5-iron used to be a challenge. If I made good contact with the 3 or 4 iron I was happy, and I never got the most out of either distance wise. Would suggest trying out a 3H or 4H at a shop if you get the chance. They launch high naturally and are like tracer bullets. If you have already mastered a 2-iron, you wont miss with a hybrid.

Cobra Radspeed driver, fairway woods (3 & 5) and irons (4-GW), vokey wedges (54 & 60) and even the putter ended up being Cobra (King Vintage Nova). Custom fit at Pure Golf Acamedy in Melbourne.
Not a fan of hybrids. I'd rather hit an iron, and honestly prefer a 2-iron than fairway woods. Part of that is being able to practice on the range. I'm unable to hit anything but irons on the ranges up here.

Currently not carrying a Fairway wood, have a 2 hybrid (Tour Edge), then the hollow 2i, then a 15year old Taylor Made 4h that goes 190 and monumentally high which is so fun to hit.

At the other end I also tend to tinker, at the moment carrying 54 and 60 vokeys from 2012, and occasionally put in a cleveland smart sole chipper (don't say that out loud) because the inability to get the ball on the green from 10m off the green off the fairway costs me 3 -5 shots a round. (The yips are a horrible thing).
Putting I have been rotating through about 5, and have settled on the ping I used many years ago for now. Again, I don't have a lot of success on the greens. I went to the belly putter for a while before it was banned, and it made golf so much more enjoyable. The ban was apparently due to it making it easier on short putts, but to me it wasn't the short puts, it was getting consistent contact on long putts, which meant my "short putts" were actually short rather than 8-10ft.
Anyway, as you can tell, I'm completely broken when it comes to short game (except bunkers), and I love the driver, 2i, 4h etc, so clearly I'm a basket case.
Hey Frosty, I thought with your smart sole, that would've helped, that's the same one I've got and it helped my game a lot, and I use it as my 9 iron on full shots, on chips I just hit it like a putt and I reckon it saves me at least 5 or more shots per round.... eliminates the duff factor common with trying to be too cute with wedges.
It's been promising. Have about 3 rounds in it so far, first one was a learning experience, second was good, then didn't play for 6 weeks and had forgotten how to use it. So much is in my head when I stand over that sort of shot, even when I'm thinking "just put a putting stroke on it". Just need to find a way to lock in that short bump and run with it (putting stroke) and it might save my game. Of course practice might help.
