Apologies if it's been posted/discussed elsewhere, but what are everyone's thoughts on there being a 19th AFL team? (New one to potentially be in Tasmania). It's been in the news recently.

It's well overdue. It's a great investment in furthering the game as the national footy code, and it's a bit disappointing NSW and Qld got second teams, where the majority of the population doesn't care about the sport, before Tassie even got one team as a traditional Aussie Rules following state.

I expect they'll be far more successful in attracting support than the Suns/Giants and will actually get decent crowds to their home matches, as they'll have the vast majority of the state supporting them. Not entirely sure they beat the Bombers to winning a final first (as the majority of respondents to the topic poll chose), but it's a lot more realistic now that they might than when the question was first asked. They will probably struggle to get a competitive side initially without some big draft concessions, and might struggle to keep/attract talent initially until they start winning matches regularly, but I think within 3-5 years of starting they'll get to a similar level as most other clubs.

Hoping for a 20th team eventually as byes suck. A "Top End" team maybe? Brisbane is the northernmost team currently, and there's nearly half the country further north than that. Maybe not the population to support a large stadium investment, but they do already play games in the NT / Nth Qld occasionally, and they get reasonable crowds, despite not having a "home" team to support, and substandard facilities.
