SYDNEY will enter its must-win clash against the Dockers bereft of key position options after Tom McCartin and Peter Ladhams were ruled out with injury concerns.

McCartin reported concussion symptoms following the Swans’ loss to Collingwood on Sunday and will be managed cautiously by the club after he was not known to have suffered a head knock during the game.

Ladhams suffered a knock to his arm at the opening centre bounce against the Magpies and was off the ground for 20 minutes during the first term before returning to play out the match.

Wow - Horse could well move Mills back to defence now.

And I think people saying otherwise should declare if he's in their team or not.
Lol 😂 nothing more than a free kick for a high spoil…..
this is a contact sport and accidents do happen.

AFL trying to save itself from future legal cases, smoke and mirrors…

An update from Jacob van Rooyen's Appeals Board hearing
Will Houghton KC is representing Melbourne and young star Jacob van Rooyen.

He is arguing that rule 18.5.1 is there to protect a player whose sole objective is to either contest the mark or spoil the mark. He says rule 18.5.3 contains a protection or an immunity to the player, when their sole objective is contesting a mark or seeking to spoil a mark, from being charged with a reportable offence.

The rules:
18.5.1: The Player whose sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark shall be permitted to do so.
18.5.3: Incidental contact in a Marking contest will be permitted if the Player's sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark.

Houghton argues that van Rooyen spoiled the mark using an outstretched arm and fist to punch the ball away, which should be the end of the matter.

Appeal Board still deliberating after 2 hours. Tough one for them. They need to find a way where the AFL/Tribunal are still found to be correct but give a result that will keep much of the masses happy as well. Perhaps they suddenly realise that an accidental knee to the head in a marking contest will suddenly see the offender get time in the context of Gleeson and his instruction that “if the contact is either inevitable or likely - in a sense that it’s reasonably foreseeable that it would result in a reportable offence - it is not incidental."
