Blues confirm meeting with Mitchell family
Travis King September 19, 2014 10:08 AM

article from afl.com.au

CARLTON has confirmed its interest in Sydney Swans midfielder Tom Mitchell and revealed it has spoken to Mitchell's family.

Mitchell - whose father, Barry, played for the Swans, Blues and Collingwood – has struggled to break into the Swans' powerful line-up this season.

The 21-year-old, who has battled injuries this year but dominated in the NEAFL when fit, has played just six senior matches.

Carlton football operations manager Andrew McKay said on Friday – ahead of the Swans’ preliminary final against North Melbourne – that the Blues were keen on the ball-magnet should he seek a trade at the end of the season.
Mitchell has not been selected in the Swans team to play North.

"I think certainly the Mitchell family understands that we would be interested if Tom did decide to leave," McKay told SEN on Friday.

"We're not actively trying to pull him out of Sydney by any stretch of the imagination, but Tom's obviously a very, very good player in a very, very good club so he's in and out of the team quite often.

"We haven't been active, but certainly the Mitchells understand our stance there."

Meanwhile, McKay cut off rumours about ruckman Matthew Kreuzer being offered as trade bait.

"It's amazing what gets thrown out there at this time of year, but certainly we wouldn't even consider trading Matthew Kreuzer anywhere," he said.

"He's obviously an important part of Carlton, he's had a long period on the sidelines as everyone knows this year so we're hoping he'll bounce back bigger and better than ever for next year."

Out-of-contract midfielder Mitch Robinson is on the trade table, however, after he lied about his involvement in an early morning brawl in the city last month.

McKay said the Blues have received interest from opponents, however he didn't rule out Robinson remaining at Carlton next season.

"Nothing's impossible. It's been pretty public that we'll look to trade Mitch and then we obviously want something for him," McKay said.

"We have had a bit of interest from a number of clubs, so we'll just have to wait and see."

McKay said forward Jeff Garlett, who was also involved in the early morning incident that landed Robinson in hot water, is in "the same boat" as Robinson.

And the Blues are still waiting to hear a decision from free agent Jarrad Waite, amid speculation he is set to walk out on the club.

"Jarrad's a required player – we'd love to keep him on our list," McKay said.

"He's obviously got a big decision to make and we're hoping that he makes that pretty soon."

Freo might be going hard at Frawley...

SEN are reporting on their website that Fremantle have offered Melbourne's James Frawley a 7 year deal believed to be worth $600'000 a season.

Surely this is a load of you know what...

Sydney has entered the race for Melbourne defender James Frawley, with reports of a six-year, $800,000 per season offer has been tabled.

Please leave Tom Mitchell out of Grand Final side Swans.
It would really help get him to Carlton.
I would love to see him at Carlton.
St.Kilda were to benefit from my own club years ago when Hamill went to St.Kilda because he was only our 7th to 10th best player but Saints could pay him as if their no 1 or 2 player and he took it after fallout with our president at the time. Maybe we can benefit from Swans list now very good and their midfield so strong Mitchell can not be squeezed in. It would be a nice turn of events. You'd think Swans would find it hard to keep all these excellent mids together. You are very welcome at Carlton Tommy Mitchell :)

Had a look through the 2009 draft since howard has been delisted

Looking at drafts back then makes me cry.

Pick 15. Howard.

In the same draft.

20. Fyfe
24. Carlisle
28. Gunston
29. Duncan
31. Tutt
38. S.Reid
40. Christensen.

Some absolute pearler picks from some clubs. To make it a bit better many clubs got their top picks wrong.

1. Scully
2. Trengrove
6. Rohan
7. Sheppard
8. Butcher
11. Gysberts

Got to nail those first two rounds. Even when you're in your window you cant afford to mess them up. One of Christensen or Reid and one of the others would be nice right about now. But if you really sat down and looked at every draft it would be a very long list of what ifs.

Is he contracted?
Yeah, one more year i believe. The thing with contracts is that they almost mean jack all these days. There is always a way out of contract if a player wants to leave. I'm pretty sure no team would keep a player (even under contract) if he no longer wants to play for them. The Pies might be better off getting a deal with whoever he wants to go to (Lions), instead of Beams just leaving after 2015 and getting nothing for him.

I made a few comments about this draft earlier in the year and it looks like one of the weakest with very few good players. Either that or just a lot of poor judgement from the clubs. I saw something written the other day saying this years draft wasn't considered to be that strong. Could be more 2nd and 3rd year players in my starting line up next year.

Does a discounted Dane Swan becomes #SuperCoach relevant again without Beams and Ball? Also wonder if any impact Beams has on Rockliff?
