I quote Lost in the Sky from the preason injury thread

Interesting stuff on Beau Waters in today's Sunday Times... Doesn't seem to be as bad as was feared during the week...

"And scans have cleared injury-ravaged hard nut Beau Waters of any damage to his rebuilt shoulder with the 2006 premiership veteran still on track to resume playing in next month’s NAB summer series.

Waters, 28, reported to Eagles medical staff with pain in his right shoulder on Monday after heavy training through the week before.

He had an cortisone injection under a local anaesthetic and as a precautionary measure was withdrawn from travelling to the Eagles community camp in the state’s northwest.

Waters has not played since July 2013 and suffered complications last year with his reconstructed shoulder when a serious infection forced surgeons to remove plates and screws designed to strengthen and support soft tissue around the joint.

It is understood his shoulder joint is stable and the half-back is tipped to resume training before then end of this month."

So he still may play in the NAB cup.

The Danger.

Been a proven huge scorer and still being so young means he can still get back up to those heights. A bloke who is able to pump out 180+ scores with ease but also doesn't mind plonking out a 70.

Yep, issues surrounding his contract for sure but I think adelaide are simply too reliant on Dangerfeild to just disregard him from their plans. The best way for adelaide to keep Danger (if it's still a possibility) is to win games and play him into some for. I doubt they'll do what they did to buddy and Ablett and destructure him as Hawthorn and Geelong were teams with so much depth anyway they could afford to move them out away from their most damaging position. A position which Adelaide I don't think have the luxury to do. Furthermore if they do move him up forward, he still shown he's capable of averaging 112, ala 2013.

My question to everyone is, what went wrong and what's going to change?
On paper Sloanes emergence, Jacobs domination should have played perfectly into Dangers hands. Yes he was carrying injuries, but is that going to change.

Most higher scorers have a reason for their poor form and when that obstacles removed, they will do well.
Eg.) Rockliff banned from Midfeild early 2013, went on to av 130.
JPK carried injury 2013, went on to average 118 (discarding hammy score).

I'm picking Danger at the moment due adelaide said great early draw and his ability to go huge and put him out of reach. But would feel a lot safer if someone could provide a logical reason to Dangers drop off. Players like JPK & Pendles are quite tempting if I can free up cash.

I looked at Sloane and then Danger to see if one should be in my midfield.

Interesting points from AFL Prospectus were:

Danger was tagged 6 times last season for 70mins or more. He ave 96 in those games vs 105 ave (which incl 96 so ex tagged games he may have been 108-110).
Sloane was tagged 3 times last season for 70 mins or more. He ave 90 vs 115 ave overall (maybe 117 ex tags).
Sloane spent 40% of his time on the wing, significantly more than any other pure mid at less than 10%.

This compares to other tagged players of Ablett 6, Rocky 4, Pendles 8 and Brent Harvey 14 all who ignored the tag (less than 5pt impact). Note JPK zero tags!

There may have been shorter duration tags not included, however, I expect Dangers scores coming down have been due to tagging intensity and impact on his body through the season (soreness). To improve, you would hope Sloane is tagged more who is impacting by a tag more than Danger.

Apologies and after going through this, I am not sure i want either. Sloane is still a contested poss man at 52% although less than DF at 62%. It makes me nervous if Sloane will be tagged more or maybe they continue to target Danger.

Importantly Sloane is not like Gaff for WCE (my team) who is often targeted and impacted by a tag as his CP is 25%.

If anyone has some views after looking at this data please let me know. Unfortunately I too easily eliminate players not find players to back!

Is anybody considering Barlow?
Due to his round 12 bye, I have never considered starting with him. If he had a different bye then I would certainly consider him.

I think he has the potential to average 115+ this year.

Fascinating that Brent Harvey was tagged 14 times, way more than some of the other quality players!

Obviously opposition coaches must think he is one player whereby the tag on him is highly effective in their plans to knocking over North.

Isn't he always sore or getting tagged though?

Picking someone in round 8 who has been sore or tagged and you believe will turn it around is good, because you are expecting an increasing in scoring, and potentially avoiding the sore and tagged scores. If you pick a guy for round 1 and he's getting tagged and regularly playing through injury, then you have to take those scores too.

Cheers BB. Probably the wrong thread to ask this question but when I saw him missing from the 2 previous 'top mid' lists I was wondering.

Unfortunately Harvey is very hard to tag with his score when under a heavy tag (> 70min) is barely less than his overall average. The reason he is tagged is when he kicks inside 50m, he finds a target 37% of the time, next best in the AFL is 27%.

I think he is tagged in most games to be honest, just not always for 70 mins or more. When he is not watched he can go large. In terms of possessions and involved in scoring chains, he is one of the most damaging players in the league.

Bit of one way traffic though from Harvey, doesn't do a whole lot defensively. Also gets all his big games against average teams. 36 more champ points in wins than losses. Bit of a flog but certainly really damaging when he gets a roll on. I was suprised when I saw that article about tags in the prospectus. I had always assumed he struggled a bit against the qualitty taggers from watching him last year.
