No difference to those that traded out Oliver , Ziebell , Zorko during the year and used their $$$ to advantage.

Who knows maybe trading out Gawn to a Darcy differiante someone's side in contention and gets them in the $$$ at the end of the year.

Risk it for the biscuit or however that saying goes.

If you traded Gawn to Darcy in Rd 7 you would have a net gain of 64 points across the season to date.

Instead in Rd 7 I traded out Dunkley to Jake Lloyd. By a quick calculation that has earned me a net gain of about 550 points over fielding a rookie; which would have been needed if i did the Gawn trade instead.

But that was injury forced, so let's see what I did in Rd 8. I upgraded two rookies to get me Zorko and Poulter. Again earned me a heck of a lot more than sideways trading Gawn.

The opportunity cost of sideways trading Gawn around round 7 is massive, instead of earning a biscuit, one would have been left with crumbs.

Trading Gawn to Darcy in R7 is just wishful thinking in hindsight. For the few lucky punts that come off, there are heaps more that fail badly.

One reason Gawn is such a popular selection is that he has been a top flight player with durability for years, which is so important in a position with limited bench coverage. Also a VC/C option. Meanwhile Darcy has played 8, 7, 11 and 15 games a season prior to this season, with a highest season average of 78.

Yep, Bolton has been a disappointing one for me too. At that point it seemed pretty clear cut though - form wise he looked a great POD and Zorko wasn’t setting the world on fire. I can add to that not taking Tex as a key moment.

And gained $ 249k as well which would need to be factored into the equation and when/what upgrades that allowed.

I guess I find it intriguing why his average has dropped so much from Round 1-6.

That's quite amazing that even when Grundy was injured , none of 5000 coaches chose Darcy.

Can't remember now if they went Naitanui as the popular choice or rookie (Smith & Reeves maybe)

Was that around the time Darcy had the hammy concern ?

Even with 2 bonus trades people are/were too reluctant (scared) to trade out Gawn

I suspect byes played a big part in people not doing Grundy -> Darcy given Freo had the round 14 bye

As for the when, while one can only trade 2 trades a week, the sideways trade means the other trade is a downgrade. So you are playing one less premium that week than if you used the 2nd trade to upgrade elsewhere .

During rounds 7 to the byes I (as most people do) use two trades everywhere aiming to downgrade & upgrade rookies each week. Hence will always be one week and thus one upgraded premium behind when sideways trading a averaging 111 premium in R7 and most likely won't be able to catch up with that cash until the byes when you get 3 trades a week.

Any thoughts on Bolton and why so poor. 21 disposal last week yet 60 points, errors on the higher side.

Posted in X vs Y, whether to trade Bolton to Danger and not Weightman. May make getting Dunkley a little easier (for Weightman) as if I have to trade Bolton later, he may be worth a less enough it costs another downgrade trade to fund it.

If Dunkley comes back and plays forward or is too late vs league finals and Bolton goes back to 100 then it would be a wasted trade.

Appreciate none of us have a crystal ball.

Do you happen to keep records on Gawn's HO & HTA stats Round by Round.

Trying to see if their has been a significant change from Round 7 onwards compared to Round 1-6.

Maybe it is as simple as Jackson is/has been getting more ruck time.

Most experts say choose 2 set and forget rucks, but every year I think I know better, duhhh .

TBH, I think it's all Herbie66's fault, not mine at all :p. His mystical and powerful influence over my starting ruck choices was Manson like :ROFLMAO:.
Started with 3 rookie rucks... 7 ruck trades later, I'm like *** am I doing here? Obviously, I have absolutely no idea *** I'm doing here :).

You are just a amateur 😀

Think I used 16+ trades on Rucks alone last year.

Might go set and forget to start next year but highly doubt it will be Gawn & Grundy.

Then again if Witts is ready to go from Round 1 might be hard to resist his discounted starting price 😉

Are Melbourne trying to play Gawn up forward more? I heard a commentator on the radio suggesting that this was a factor in Melbourne's form slump and to get back on track they need to get Gawn back to helping in defence which I think is where his bigger scoring is driven from.

Brown into the team this week might allow Gawn to get behind the ball a bit more often
