If anyone made that trade they probably made several other equally crazy trades which were not as successful and is probably ranked around 100,000th.
Everyone said Gawn would score 150 every game in the first 6 rounds (close enough he did) , so cash him in while you are head.

Surely we all saw the Jackson influence coming and the rise of Darcy 😉

Wasn't their a article earlier in the season that said Darcy's numbers were 12 months ahead of Grundy in comparison ?

In MarkM's latest analysis of the Top 5000 ranked teams there are 18 different ruckman picked by more than 1% of them. Sean Darcy is NOT one of them.

Meanwhile Gawn is owned by 98.4% of the Top 5000.

And if you look at 3 Rd Ave for Rucks , Gawn is 6th.

A lot of coaches can get too attached to the name of players and not follow the firm line.

That's quite amazing that even when Grundy was injured , none of 5000 coaches chose Darcy.

Can't remember now if they went Naitanui as the popular choice or rookie (Smith & Reeves maybe)

Was that around the time Darcy had the hammy concern ?

Even with 2 bonus trades people are/were too reluctant (scared) to trade out Gawn

Gawn has played every game this year. Has only failed to reach 100 just the one game. Has scored the 3rd most points of all players this year.

People are attached to the name because he is a winner.

Follow the form line? His form may have dipped from his peak but is hardly worth dumping for. Sure, cherry pick his last 3 weeks, only averaging 108.7 making him the 6th ranked ruckman of the last 3 weeks. To take advantage of that would mean trading him out 3 weeks ago, having scored 138, 120 and 124 the three weeks before that with a season average of 126. Little sign that he was about to drop 18 points a week to a mere 108...

People were not scared to trade Gawn out, they were smart. They played the percentages. They most likely found a better use of a trade than dumping Gawn, like upgrading a rookie to a premium, earning more points than Gawns 18 point form dip.

Not cherry picking at all , game is a numbers and $$$ game , sometimes you need to use that to your advantage.

Averaging 111 from Round 7.

Anyway their are actually just as viable alternatives to Gawn as good as he still has performed this season.

Be naive to think the emergence of Jackson hasn't affected him , been whispers of a leg injury for weeks so whether that is impacting him or not , who knows for sure.

No difference to those that traded out Oliver , Ziebell , Zorko during the year and used their $$$ to advantage.

Who knows maybe trading out Gawn to a Darcy differiante someone's side in contention and gets them in the $$$ at the end of the year.

Risk it for the biscuit or however that saying goes.
