Season Ranking: 1,316 (Down 308)
Trades made: None
Intended trades: Sharp to Jordon and an array of options for potentially another one.
Heroes: Laird 121, Ridley 136, Short 120, Oliver 133, Macrae 137 (C) Gulden 136, Campbell 118, Grundy 135, Dunkley 132, Warner 94
Villians: Daniel 66, Taranto 67, Phillips 56, Rowe 19
Comments: Happy enough with my round. Phillips is the one that really annoys me as I jumped on him late and it will potentially cost me a trade. Need to work out what I'm going to do there. Walker and Impey are potentials as I don't have much cash left. Thinking I might pick Meek ahead of Flynn next week after watching them battle it out yesterday and also seeing as Flynn has Gawn to deal with this week.

Heroes: Laird, Short, Highmore, Macrae, Dunkley, Campbell, Guldne, Gawn, Grundy, Dusty, Warner
Villians: Duggan, Taranto, Phillips, Rowe
Comments: Another so, so week.

Duggan, Phillips and Taranto really put a break on this week. 268 DT v 188 SC brought me un-done again.

I know I said Gawn and Grundy were safe this week, but not sure how long I can let Flynn score better than 70% of my other rookies and not having Meek/Jordan could be the end of my year considering 6 of my bench rookies scored 53 or under which is not sustainable long term. I think one has to go for the long-term benefit of my side going-forward. I think I have seen enough to admit that Grundy/Gawn/Flynn was not the way to go. Take my medicine this week, bring in Meek and Jordan and fix other issues over coming weeks, Duggan, Phillips et al are not going to cut it.

Well-done to all those with great scores and ranknings

Did you deliberately start with those loops Obie?
Waterman in the forward line. (Hoping he will get a game in a bit.) Fyfe (GC in mids) Looping is just so strong for pure points early on + captain loop. Forgoe a couple of cash cows, but I have all the good ones and I find there are always a couple (Like Sharp) that are almost liabilities by playing (Bugger all cash and Bugger all points).

Trades made: Dangerfield to Mills (short straw from Mitchell and Dusty)
Points lost: D 0, M 46, R 0, F 26, Capt 0, Total 72 - the worst of it was Scott onfield instead of Berry. The fact that Rowe onfield only cost me 16 is a worry.
Intended trades: two of Jones and one of Scott/McNeil/Fullarton to JordOn and Impey
Heroes: Gawn 274, Macrae 137, Gulden 136, Ridley 136, Grundy 135, Dunkley 132, Laird 121, Short 120, Campbell 118, Warner 94
Villians: Jones 5, Rowe 19, Sharp, Scott 23, Fullarton, Kosi 38, Dow 53 (PIT 60????) along with Stewart, Mills, Merrett and J Kelly
Comments: Happy and a bit surprised I improved in the rankings this week - bench is a real worry so will bring in Impey I think to help with that. Very happy the Grawndy combo came good.
@Ironhawk commented on overall league performance - would be interested to see what the major thematic differences is between SCS and other sites - what part 'group thinking' plays in our initial selections and strategy - ruc combo, mid-pricers, etc.

Villains under 60: Dow, Rowe

Comments:
My best start to a season by far, although Gulden on bench round 1 hurt what could have been an even better start
Luckily have hit all the good rookies and avoided any preseason traps so far so no need to trade either

Score : 2190
Overall Rank : 571 πŸ˜… (from 60)

Heroes : Macrae (C) 137 , Gulden 136 , Dunkley 132 , Lloyd 124 , Laird 121 , Boak 120 , Martin 120 , Campbell 118 , Heeney 102

Villians: Merrett 91 , Kelly 90 , Stewart 83 , Cripps 82 , Daniel 66 , Zorko 64

If they all scored πŸ’― (acceptable minimum level for a premium) I would still be in the Top πŸ’― , alas they didn't and the slide has begun.

Don't like to single out rookies as villians but Rowe looked lost and completely out of his depth against the Swans

Trades made : Dangerfield - > Mitchell - > Heeney = 1 trade πŸ€”

Trades Planned : as much as I want Ridley & Walker need to be smart and chase the rookies so JordOn & Warner.

The Hunter experiment looks over (as expected)

Comments: Extremely frustrating weekend in more ways than one πŸ˜‰

Watching half of my so called premiums dissapoint was extremely frustrating.

Not sure if Meek & Flynn just teased on the weekend or not , still need at least 60-75 each game (compared to the other rookies) to make it work.

Anyway hopefully Round 3 is better.

Comments: Overall not too much damage done on the overall rankings but definitely some disappointing scores in there from the so-called premos.

DEF (6/10)
Short, Laird and Highmore the standouts for this line. Stewart slightly down on his output but I hope that was Daniel's worst game for the season. When the going got tough, he found it hard and pretty much committed mistake after mistake. I mentioned last week that Kosi was a problem and this week that problem became bigger. I need to find a way to get him off the field

MID (5/10)
Stack up on the uber premos on this line, they will deliver! Except that they did not and it was left to a couple of young rookies to carry the heavy burden with the exception of Macrae. I can forgive Zerrett in a decimated team with a heavy loss and Jelly who was ignored by his team mates the whole day. Cripps looks cooked and that is a genuine worry, the game looks too fast for him. Taranto I just want to forget he's in my team, pretty much went into his hole after quarter time and played dead. Gulden, Campbell & Powell were the true premos.

RUC (9/10)
Nothing much to say here as the star ruckmen of the game resumed their normal business. Verdict is still out due to their high price but it was a good step in the right direction, let's hope they continue to pump out those 130 scores.

FWD (7/10)
Can't really fault anyone here except for Rowe's 19. He is a rookie at the end of the day so while I am disappointed, I won't be too critical of him. So glad to have started Dusty & Dunkley, 2 less concerns for me! Warner another star rookie in the making and Daniher did some nice things to end up with that score. Ziebell soldiered on with an ankle issue, no problems with his score.

Villians: Daniel, Sharp, Rowe, Caldwell
Comments: Much better than last week

Have the Caldwell problem to deal with. If anyone said at the start of the season get on Tex Walker i'd say what drugs are you smoking :D. Looks almost a no brainer with a be of -118 or whatever. Pocket 50k and then "upgrade" Cripps to Bont. Watched Bont on the weekend and he was simply amazing.

Very happy with my team otherwise, normally i'd be correcting rookies but lucky to have the "must haves" this year

This will be a bit more enjoyable than usual...

Score: 2,403
Weekly Ranking: 337
Season Ranking: 2,198 (Up 21,707)
Trades made: Rowell to Dusty, O Henry to Warner
Points lost: D 16, M 2, R 0, F 0, Capt 28, Total 46.
Intended trades: Jordon in. GWS players out.
Heroes: Ridley 136, Short 120, Dunkley 132, Martin 120, Campbell 118, Gulden 136, Gawn 137, Grundy 135, Butters 163, Impey 123, Warner 94
Villians: Daniel 66, Taranto 67, Green DNP
Comments: I believe that is my best ever single round ranking. Top score in the various SCS groups. Never thought I would see that! Very happy.

Still a bit annoyed by the last two matches, where 3/4 players failed, but the first 7 more than made up for it. Nailed most of my selections this week, reached my highest overall ranking since 2014, caught up a bit and got to within 350 points of the leader - can't complain. There was no way I was beating the best score of the week - 2,558, so at least those poor scores in the last few games didn't cost me $1000.

It's probably the first time I can remember being mostly happy with my team at this point of the season. Usually I finish better after a slower start, hopefully I can do well in both phases (plus everywhere in between) this year!

Good luck to everyone with their league matches starting in Rd 3. Hopefully we can see some of our leagues start to climb the rankings, I'm seeing a lack of SCS leagues at the top which is very unusual!
Great stuff mate , thoroughly deserved.

Hopefully the start of bigger and better scores.

Score: 2270

Heroes: Lloyd, Walsh, Macrae, Oliver, Gawn (C) Grundy, Gulden and Campbell.
Villains: Neale, Daniel and Merrett.
Trades made: None
Intended Trades: Maybe Sharp to Jordan
Comments: Team is tracking great, went from 2045 round 1 to 2270, unlucky not to crack 2300 with Fyfe concussed late in the 3rd term. Disappointing effort from Neale and Daniel. Think I picked the correct rookies onfield, looking at minimal trades, although might go cash grab with Jordan. I'm sticking with my mid price strategy atm keeping 5 onfield rookies to ensure a stable score, Rowe was the perfect example, although I wasn't expecting him to back up his hundred. He'll be onfield for me next week. Congrats to @Ironhawk with his top scoring effort this week.

Look at you go with your crazy team πŸ˜€

Seriously though I think if your bench can generate enough $$$ for upgrades you are on a winner winner chicken dinner starting structure.

Intended trades: Hunter to Jordon
Heroes: Bont 145, Macrae 137, Gulden 136, Ridley 136, Oliver 133, Dunkley 132, Laird 121, Short 120, Martin 120, Campbell 118, Warner 94. Special mentions - Meek 82, Flynn 78
Villians: Daniel 66, Rowe 19
Comments: Wow! Week 2 down and very happy with how the team is shaping up. The strategy at the start was all-in on rookie rucks, and then adopt a low risk profile everywhere else: no breakout picks; no 'nearly' premiums; no injury prone guys (Jelly the only exception really).

Means I might miss some players for now that I almost started (Walsh, Freoshaw) and some others that are killing it (eg. Butters) but that is SC: you can't have everyone.

I got nervous watching Gawn and Grundy punch out 130s but then Flynn and Meek put up scores that any coach would take from a rookie. Most importantly, the funds spared in the ruck line bought good scores elsewhere: Oliver and Ridley weren't in until I took out Gawn.

It feels like a week-to-week prospect whether this team does well, but every time Gawn and Grundy go lower (ie. sub 120) and Flynn and Meek pass at least 60, I've got the guns in place to capitalise elsewhere on the field.

That said, if Gawn towells up Flynn for a 160 vs 40 I'm gone, but let's just pretend that won't happen huh! :p
wow look at you go , well done.

just curious what your structure is and if you have any $ 200-300k players.

I have 13-2-7 with the all rookie ruck line , just working out the best course of action for myself.

Points lost: Sharp instead of Highmore (57) Berry instead of Powell (6) Flynn over Meek (4) Rowe over Fullarton (16) Neale captain over Grundy as I had no loophole (60) for a total of 143 lost points.
Intended trades: Probably Jordon and Impey in for Henry and Scott.
Heroes: Laird, Ridley, Oliver, Campbell, Gulden, Grundy, Dunkley
Villians: Sharp, Neale C, Cripps, Taranto, Phillips, Rowe
Comments: Shocking score but I think my structure is OK. Will trade a coupe of missed rookies in this week and my cash generation is looking pretty good long term. Will probably look to hold Cripps, Taranto & Phillips at least for the short term. I desperately need a floating donut after it cost me big time this week but I don't think I'll have one as Sharp plays Thursday night. My rookie R2 is looking okay at the moment as both Flynn and Meek are looking like goodish scorers. Hoping the cash gen that I get from that extra rookie in the ruck will hold me in good stead long term over the guys that went Grundy/Gawn.

You can see my team easily enough, just go to Rankings page and it's near the top :ROFLMAO:.
(always wanted to say that).

Structure is the same as you I think:
13-2-7, where the only two between $200k and $500k are Jordan Clark and Ziebell.

After trading Danger out for a mid I'm wondering if I'm going to get caught out at F6 (like many). Something to mull over for the next few days maybe.

Hahaha that is a brilliant answer , I love it.

I will have to have a look and compare.

I just roughly worked out if my 6 premium duds actually scored 134 extra points I would be Top 50 and not 561

grrr amazing what the loss of 100 odd points can make to standings

I am glad I changed my mind and went Dangerfield to Heeney , leaves me 4+1+3 mind you I will bench Rowe this week so no doubt he will outscore Warner.

Need Zorko to stop giving away FA and 50 metre penalties.

2 spots forward for Dangerfield & Marshall (?)

It's interesting, and probably just a coincidence, but two of the people here who have been suggesting looking at alternative players/structures all pre-season, and not just relying on group think have been right near the top in the first two rounds - myself and @Herbie66.

Rule changes this year might have changed things more than usual, there seems to be a lot of value around this year in players who are looking as good or better than the traditional premium players. Might be the year to go a bit harder early on with trades and bring in some of these value options for underperforming premiums?

I'm sure our league rankings will improve, but it's worth considering.

Comments: Overall happy with my team and was looking like a good score until sunday detrailed with Taranto, phillips and daniel all massively under performing. Phillips looking like he wont score well or generate any cash and will tread water, thinking him to Tex or impey for cash gen and free up some $. Other option is caldwell, thou might use him as donut till comes back and generates some $

Comments: Very happy, got the right rookies onfield, leaving Rowe & Sharp benched. Mcgrath was average but got enough ball, in a side which was thrashed, so prepared to ride this one out. Bruhn to Jordon is the obvious trade this week. Selections will dictate the other, possibly Dow out.
