Interesting looking at the Defenders Averages so far , 13 going 105+

Some of the more "favoured" ones preseason :-

Crisp 103.9
Dawson 99
Hall 98
Rich 94.3
Ridley 91.3
Daniel 90.9
Lloyd 90.3

add Zorko 89.3

I am currently running Rioli , Whitfield & Blakey at D4-6 (Ryan is D3) so ideally need 3 X 105+ players.

no idea how/when/who I will upgrade them to at this stage , a lot will depend if I can release McCartin's & SDK $.

Just have to wait for downgrade options to present themselves.

It's not really a problem if you trade into them rather than downgrade them. I'll be looking at keeping SDK as cover, same could be said for McCartin, both have good JS and are cheap options as cover.

So Rioli > Def. premo this week with JHF, Daicos > premo next week with Ward for example.

Big problem if they don't get up to 105+ from now on (so many seemingly better options than the "brand" names) could be giving up 45 points a round , I guess it all varies for different people , if in contention for overall it's a lot , if out of the running doesn't really matter , H2H etc.

Could easily end up with 3-4 defenders all around the 90ish mark.

Must be going well if you don't need McCartin's and/or SK cash to fund other upgrades or improve existing players.

Personally need their catch to fund my D4-6 upgrades.

Who are your mid rookies that need culling? Clarke, Carroll and maybe Hamilton are looking very likely as trade ins, all I'm saying is that the cash released from your mid/fwd rookies can be used to upgrade those MP defenders that you have and TBH they've done the job that you picked them for ie: made cash and held down their spots, they're not keepers so get keepers in to replace them.

For me it's not so much the cash that's held with SDK, it's more the opportunity of using other cash generated on other lines to help fund upgrades, I don't need def. rookies to fund def. upgrades, the same can be said for the fwds. in that I'll end up with say Cogs as an F7/M9 loop option. My thinking is that he'll be 10 PPG under what I want from F6 so I'll upgrade around him (could be Butters too)

Daicos goes next round to help fund Curnow - > Darcy/English

Stephens will need to go for one of Clark , Carroll , Hamilton , Rioli (will temper expectations until they play their second game , a few weeks ago people were adamant that Daicos & JHF were going to be season long keepers)

Long is M11.

So then the money well dries up again.

$ 300k from McCartin/SDK then upgrades at least 2 of Rioli , Blakey , Whitfield (would like to keep Rioli as a F7/cover)

Little gain upgrading them to a Rich , Ridley , Lloyd for example based on current scores.

Dixon's cash then upgrades Martin at his Bye , hopefully close to $ 400k by then.

Hayes & Curtis needs to fatten up.

Then whichever one's of Carroll/Clark/Hamilton/Rioli hopefully makes enough $ to find some "luxury" upgrades.

Just got to be patient and wait for it to happen , all about timing when (if) the downgrades appears.

If Bont gets DPP then suddenly everything changes again as he becomes the priority.

I don't know who were prognosticating that JHF and Daicos were season long keepers, maybe until their rnd 14 bye? Doesn't matter anyway because they're good vehicles for upgrades same as your MP's

It's all a bit of a moot conversation as we need to see your team to know how to give our thoughts, like I don't know who your M9 is for example.

Daicos , Stephens , Long is my mid bench for Round 8.

Daicos , Stephens & Curnow are my outs for Round 9 for a premium ruck & 2 mid rookies

Ruck is priority after this round , then start looking at upgrading Rioli , Blakey , Whitfield.

Martin gets upgraded at his Bye.

Then hopefully in a position to make some luxury upgrades on guys like Brodie , Butters , Gresham etc etc.

Just need the $$$ from McCartin & SDK (or Dixon) to fund my defender upgrades , a lot will be clearer (cash wise) once I bring in a ruck.

I was going to edit my previous post but you might have missed it.

One thing that stood out for me is that you're taking 1 of Clarke/Carroll/Hamilton or Rioli, I'm taking 3 of them and maybe a couple early, they're all perfectly placed for upgrade season and at least 2 of them have really solid JS.

You have to cash out and the next 2 weeks are pivotal, particularly to keep the cash gen. happening.

I'm a little confused as you said that Daicos is D5 previously and now he's on the mid bench?

Ooops me bad , joys of having Daicos & Whitfield.

Tigers will bully him this week so sitting at M9 this round
I doubt that, Tigers are quite happy for the oppo backs to chip it around, allows them to set up defensively further up the ground, if anything he'll score quite well.

More about the hype and welcome to the AFL , sure the former captain will give him a few "friendly" cuddles 😀

Hopefully Bruz is sitting close to him.

+ Hewett at 11 with 701 (6).
Aiming to get 6 of them into my Def eventually.
I only have Short , didn't start Hewett or Sicily (amazing to think what could have been with 3-4 different starting players)

Might just go Crisp & SP10 and hope Stewart becomes cheaper somehow.

Don't mind Dale though.
