I don’t think you can start Kelly and Whitfield one will get injured
Plenty of sides I have seen have Dunkley , Duncan , Heeney , Gresham, Conigilio, Milera , Whitfield etc etc in them

I guess it comes down to how many trades you put aside for injury players, need to fix up too many injuries in the first 6-8 rounds trades quickly disappear although I remember reading a few years ago you are actually better off long term benching a injured premium for 3 games (I think from memory) and use bench cover instead, apparently a trade saved works better long term

I think you have to look at what type of injury as well. It seems Whitfield and Kelly get soft tissue injuries over like a heeney a foot injury.

Good post last season or the season before on Whitfield's injuries, didn't think too many were soft tissue injuries, lacerated liver last year, chest/sternum seems to ring a bell, thought he was more susceptible to collision type injuries, possibly a cheekbone fracture seems to ring a bell as well.

Yep.

He is one I am a bit surprised hasn't been mentioned much before now, there's a few others too.
Durability the issue with Kelly plus the majority don't like his coach and that he coaches his football team with little interest in SC points and SC coaches so hopefully we don't get another 1,000.000 posts this season of play him in the mids " every game

Too many premiums to choose from by the look of things to start , plus a few in that $ 200-$300k range + Wowell.

Depends on how many of the midfield rookies show up for Round 1.

Agreed, I'm not planning on starting him, or many GWS players at all for the reasons listed. Cogs and rookies might be exceptions.

2 to 3 + Neale I think

Like Berry , maybe Constable

Horne-Franics , Daicos , Ward , Milera-Wanganeen , Stephens (Sydney) , Hobbs etc etc

My rucks haven't moved since the end of last season, not sure on my defence yet apart from Short , lots and lots of options forward, just need to select the right ones , really liked @Professor starting structure last season so might try something similar

Yeah Whitfield has had some of the more obscure injuries and also copped a drug ban for avoiding a test. Not as injury prone as he looks on paper.

Is Gaff ($496,600) worth considering as an underpriced player that could be a Keeper?
He will be 30 in June, played 21 games and averaged 91 last year (previous years avg.106,107,108)
Any reason he won't return to his higher scoring?
As an Eagles supporter love the bloke and he would still be in the top 5 runners in the game. But we dont really play an SC friendly game, plus his age and the fact that with last night's announcement by McGowan it seems likely the Eagles will be in some sort of hub at least early this season I would avoid as a starter. Would choose Rowell + cash over gaff any day of your are after a lower price option

I needed a midseason trade in at around his price last year and took him after a few solid hundreds.

He then followed it up with a run of absolute dog****.

Never again.

Thanks for your replies.
I'm just planning, in case of the unlikelihood, that there may not be enough Cash Cows at the start of the season. I'm most likely being too cautious.

I haven't made a full team up yet, just collating a list of players that I would like to start with and waiting until which Rookies are confirmed to play round 1.

Ouch! That's a lot of low SC points from Gaff.
Before I consider him for my final list of players, I was just wondering why he had so many low scores in 2021? I know he injured his thumb and couldn't play Rd16, but why the other low scores? He has been quite reliable in the past seasons.
I started with him thinking the new rules would suit but traded him out when he said the ball kept going over his head. I think his bread and butter was running into the pockets at both ends to take the ball out of the backline and deliver the ball into the forward line. The new kick in rule in particular seemed to remove that kick to the back pocket.

As an outside midfielder, he is heavily reliant on accumulating 30+ disposals to be a worthwhile selection as his game style suits AFL Fantasy. 2018 and 2019 resulted in Gaff averaging 30.7 and 31.9 disposals a game respectively and he would need to hit these heights again to reach 105+. His match ceiling is capped around the 130 to 140 range which means the price will not get out of hand and he should hover around the low to mid $500,000. 2018 price changes on footywire should provide a nice guide if you expect him to reach that range.

Good points!
The negatives are out weighing the positives to include Gaff on my list.

Around the same price, Yeo would be the better selection, if he stays healthy in the preseason. Yeo returned to playing AFL last year in the second half of the season and his match times steadily increased. He returned early for preseason training, so it's looking good. He didn't have a preseason the last 2 years.
