Ok have done some nerding up on a lazy Sunday and here is my "before the practice games" team

Def - Lloyd, Dawson, Whitfield, Sicily, K Coleman, Hinge, (Chesser, Dean)
Mid - Macrae, Steele, Neale, JHF, Daicos, Ward, Stephens, Hobbs (O'Driscoll, C Stephens, MacDonald)
Ruc - Darcy, Grundy (Preuss)
Fwd - Dunkley, Thomas, Heeney, Butters, Coniglio, Hollands (Kelly, Parker)

Big dogs in Lloyd, Steele, Macrae, Neale, Darcy, Grundy and Dunkley are fairly rusted on if they stay fit.
Then comes my "more mid time"cohort in Dawson, Thomas, Heeney and Butters. These guys may come out depending on CBAs in the games to come but i think they are all players I will enjoy watching so it will be sad to wave any of them goodbye
Sicily seems like good value - not sold on him but the structure works with him there
Coniglio (obvs) and Kiddy Coleman lead the pack for me in all the 250-300k spots particularly due to their DPP
Plenty of extra $$ on my 15 rookies gives me flexibility to move around a bit particularly if cheaper ones appear
One of O'Driscoll/Kelly likely stays a a "floating donut to play" even if they miss

That is it for now...4 weeks to go so plenty of changes to come no doubt!
I think you'll find your boy Soligo on your mid bench come Round 1 ;)

Current team, only early stages though

Def / Crisp, Lloyd, Whitfield, Sicily, W. Kelly, O’Driscoll, Sinn, Skinner
Mid / Macrae, Steele, Mitchell, Neale, Daicos, Horne-Francis, Ward, Rachelle
MacDonald M. Roberts N. Long
Fwd / Dunkley, Dusty, Butters, Coniglio, Rayner, Hollands Butler De Koning
Ruck / Grundy Marshall Akuie

Probably end up looking completely different when the season starts

I'm up to iteration #1,367 🤣 think I'm happiest with this setup at the moment. Def scares the $h!7 outta me, but I got nfi where to trim the fat from other positions (cos I'm blindly liking them all!). My fave move today has been Cogs fwd and/or drop Caldwell + upgrade Sicily, but balancing points, cash gen & flexibility has me happy with this. Gonna try not to do any more changes until closer to the real stuff (lol as if).

Please confirm you are a 'great mind'......if not i will go back to the drawing board! :p
ha ha lets hope so. Although expect I dial it back one to boost 250k options. Prefer too make money early.

He is on my bench which shares the same premiums as Blaze. Hearing some positive comments out there on him.......

This is where I'm at with my team
Screen Shot 2022-02-19 at 12.46.31 pm.png

DEF
Lloyd has been locked from the start. He's the one I'm most confident (other the Macrae) of being in the top 3 in their position.
Ridley has the potential to really hurt if he gets the favourable role (which is looking likely).
Sicily is great value and could easily be a top 6 DEF but there is certainly an element of risk here
Coleman looks a good bet for a lucrative half back role and the DPP is a bonus
Rookies are fluid of course but I've spent a bit extra on the two onfield. I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable with the DEF rookies
MID
Macrae was first picked. Unbelievably consistent elite scoring.
Steele should be safe for ~120 but could easily go Oliver here also
Mitchell I believe is value and has a good chance of matching Macrae/Steele/Oliver/Touk
Neale has been a lock since day one like everyone
Rookies- spent up here on the onfield rookies as seems standard
RUCK
Darcy has insane potential. Injury risk obviously but easy to trade out of
Grundy is the safest premium ruck pick
FWD
Dunkley is the one player with the most potential to hurt if you don't start. A defensive pick really and I'd be willing to jump off quickly.
Heeney is a player I love and he's looking at a good role this year
Butters- still a toss up with him and T.Thomas, he seems to have a higher ceiling
Coniglio just has to be there
Rayner is the pick I like the least. Would love to swap him for a MID at similar price but it messes too much with the structure.
Curnow keeps a FWD rookie off field and could well be a good earner.
Rookies are very fluid. I'm worried about the lack of options here.

Still got $82k for tweaks (Sicily to Whitfield?) or rookie upgrades.
What do you think?

$22k. I'm not too bothered by having a few ultra cheapies. Drums are beating that Dean is a good chance of early games + surely Tsitas gets a gong soonish. Wait and see on the rooks I guess. Not many of the <$130ks excite me (now that G.Clark is inj), but some will inevitably some will pop up. I've had Naicos/Ward/Stephens/Erasmus a bunch of times, and still ended up here.
Tbh I was thinking JHF or Daicos. Just a gut feel. footy/experience last year just tips the scales imo. If my knees get weak I'll prob go down from Caldwell to Naicos. Bit more in the kitty helps (albeit I think Jye has a higher ceiling/season ave...durability vs. 1st season is a coin flip. Ha now I'm talking myself into it..)

2nd draft, running a slightly beefed up DEF/MED o***et by a little weaker FWD. Still have PTSD from mid-pricers (300-400k range) so have stayed away completely across all lines to keep it consistent. From all reports this year's first round picks are all firing as well so happy to make an exception for the rookies in the MID (like most). Bench rookies are still TBD obviously

First side I have seen with Ziebell in it - what is the thinking behind taking him over Whitfield/ Sicily if you don’t mind me asking?
Personally, I wouldn’t be starting 2 fwd rookies myself.

Was originally Aaron Hall, until I heard he pinged his hammy earlier this week in his intraclub :(

Considering how well Hall & Ziebell played together as a defensive tandem and didn't really steal each other's points, even in losing performances last year, I was comfortable picking one or the other.

Sicily - enigmatic player, just not consistent enough for my liking (the only real reason most are picking him are because of his discounted price). Reverse POD by not having him (in my opinion)
Whitfield - Also too inconsistent for my liking and a little injury prone, probably a wait and watch for me

Also taking a risk picking Dawson - weighed it up but had to try something different to make the team slightly non cookie-cutter

Either of those guys could both make it into the final team, just would like to wait/see. Still just a draft team at this stage though!

Neale @ M1 , JHF @ M2

5-Kiddy-2 (Lloyd , Crisp , Short , Whitfield , Sicily)
1-0-10
2-0-1
6-0-2 (Dunkley , Duncan , Bailey , Thomas Heeney , Butters)

14-Kiddy-15

Probably could do Duncan - > Coniglio and get Caldwell & Berry instead of 2 of the mid rookies

You might want to review Ziebell's average with Hall and without last year. Ziebell averaged 100 with Hall in the team, still good fwiw but was trending downwards as season progressed (92 over last 6). Averaged 131 in the 5 games where Hall wasn't in defense including his 3 highest for the season.

It's a pretty big difference and McDonald also in the mix potentially this year.

He absolutely could do it again though and average the same, definitely a unique pick.

I really need to get a look at this Stephens guy .... hasn't been in any of my drafted teams thus far ...

- Have Erasmus over him and Chesser over Kemp for now ...
Dylan Stephens $167,800 MID

2021 SC Ave: 30.8 (AFL), 101 (VFL)

On the surface, Stephen’s average of 30.8 from six matches in his second season sets off alarm bells. But Stephen’s was hardly given a chance by John Longmire, spending just 49.4 per cent of his time on the park. It looks it it’ll be a different story in 2022, and that’s straight from the Horse’s mouth: “Dylan Stephens is one that really stands out. He has been training at a really high intensity and he’s put on some size, which we wanted him to do.” The top-five draft pick, who averaged 101 points and 28 disposals in the reserves last year, looms as a possible on-field cheapie option.

I like it. I know a lot of people seem to insist you need to start X gun midfielders to do well, but this is a good chance to score well enough elsewhere on field to prove that wrong.

Thanks will need to keep an eye on him ....

So the Swans rarely ever change their game plan to me ....

- Hewett gone .. who becomes the tagger / defensive orientated midfielder ...
- JPK new role ... big body to replace in the midfield ....
- Heeney more midfield time ....
- Dawson gone ... might be a bigger loss than initially expected ..

Need to see the Swans play a game to see what is going on ..

Lucky we have @wogitalia here 😉

My understanding is Stephens is set to play wing/ taking Dawson’s position.

I know it is early days yet and the scratch matches will probably tell us more with rookies but I find as I tinker with my team that there are not that many dp rookies ending up in my mids. That is not to say there isn't dp rookies available it is just that when I structure up I find myself with the current preferred rookies in def or fwd. For example I have O'Driscoll and Chesser D5 and D6 at the moment. I could put one of them in the mids for flexibility but I have other rookies I want to play there and I get squeezed because they are all pure mids. Have noticed quite a few teams posted with no dp rookies in the mids. I like the flexibility of at least one dp rookie in the mids. Will see what the practice matches toss up. Will be interested to see what Ely Smith and Ned Long do. Sure I read Hollands is injured.
