Geez the community games changed a lot of my thinking! Some good, but some definitely sub optimal (read: rookie issues!).
Liking this team at the moment although not 100% sold on all the picks. Think the announcements between now and round 1 teams will help shape things but ultimately, a lot will come down to who is named and where!
Calling out the notable points..
Backs - lack of decent rookies mean I've tried to get the cream. Short may become Stewart who I also really want, but basically the plan here is to o***et questionable scoring from the bottom with consistent high scoring from the top end. Sounds simple.. right?
Mids - Macrae won the coin toss due to the plethora of early games meaning he's a rock solid VC choice. Miller came in as I just love his work rate and think he can carry on the same as last year. Tossed up between Steele, Oliver and Parish.. any of them could well come in over the next week. Genuinely tough to pick 2/5 players I rate so highly! Ultimately though I think the mid rookies are a must even at their price.
Rucks - Gawn won me over.. Darcy still has a lot of upside but I think he is probably a player than can score 90 to 160.. where as Gawn will probably be more 105-135 type scoring. If Freo played early I'd be tempted to have Darcy as a VC option, but he's too risky as a C and the danger of a late out at the end of a round is very real.
Forwards - Dunkley is a defensive pick but his upside is there. If he scores how he could there is a good chance he hits 600k and destroys teams scrambling to get him in. If he scores "meh" it impacts everyone, and there is likely to be plenty of decent exit plans if he gets injured. English looked incredible in his role, basically a tall midfielder with intercept marking rather than a ruck.. think he'll score really strongly across the year and has the potential to go monster (200 point score in the past!). Gives flexibility too.. overall I think the positives outweigh the risks. Decided to fade Mcgovern due to injury risks, ultimately Brodie won that spot and I think the rest pick themselves. Bench is an obvious concern but Martin looked great in the half he played and think he's a genuine chance to force his way into the team, and Dixon gets his opportunity which is half the battle. The $47k ITB is ear marked for upgrading the rookie bench if better options present.
Welcome any feedback or thoughts!
