I've asked that question.

Looking at his scores breakdown during his career best season to date...
  • 1 x 200+
  • 8 x 100+ (of which 6 were 120+)
  • 2 x 90-99
  • 6 x less than 73
Without the 204 he averages 96 which I feel is more within his range.

I've no doubt that he still has natural improvements left in him but it's the number of low scores which is of greatest concern for me. If he could learn how to turn those 50's and 60's into 70's and 80's then you're looking at a circa 5 points improvements right there. Do I trust him enough to do it this year...?

He's right in calculation for my team as a viable R2 play with a view of being a forward keeper as I feel that his range will be 85-105 with a slight upside if the planets align for him.
More about where Bevo plays him, deep forward is the problem, not so much learn to be more consistent.

I’m not confident Sicily will become a keeper
Gawn 120, Sicily 90?
English 90?, Lloyd 110?

I don’t think we can confidently predict English will be better than Sicily. So I’d rate them equal in ppg. but i would be surprised if Lloyd gets within 5ppg of Gawn.

Plus Gawn is a good VC option.

Not really that simple which is why I don’t do the player v player thing. With English can have ruck cover later in the year, better rookies and have Preuss on field over a forward rookie. Gawn VC is a big bonus, so many variables in these decisions.

Possible Aaron Black debut for West Coast...

View: https://twitter.com/913sportfm/status/1503602773706768386

West Perth captain Aaron Black could make one of the most remarkable AFL debuts in the game’s history after being asked to join West Coast training only five days before the season-opener against Gold Coast on Sunday.

The hard-running Black, 29, was one of five Sandover medallists named by the two local AFL clubs on Monday as Covid top-up players. That status means that any of the 40 players selected could be used if Covid restrictions mean West Coast or Fremantle have 28 or fewer players available for selection.

Black won the 2014 Sandover and has played 222 WAFL games without ever coming close to being picked up by an AFL club. But Black’s call-up to train with the Eagles signals the possibility that he could be used against the Suns at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Happy to see Baldwin is playing. Assume it means Martin isn't playing - I personally feel like they'll give Baldwin a few games.
Interesting that Baldwin is in exactly the same spot as Jones last year, in possession of a role that he probably shouldn't have and it's not his to lose with multiple other guys breathing down his neck.

I actually liked the look of him as well.

Think I'm leaning towards paying the 18k for Durdin and the JS if he's fit though. Hayes kind of handcu*** with English for me so that's the other bench spot assuming he's also named.

So many decisions!

Are they competing for the same spot, or do you mean if Martin was debuting they would've announced it together?

Also just out of curiosity, how well do you think Baldwin? He looks like an athletic 3rd tall (Jack Gunston type?) Not sure.
I think they would have announced it together - then again, as someone that is somewhat involved with creating social media content for work, double the engagement by splitting the posts (or they want to surprise the Cats!)

I've got Durdin and Baldwin on the bench, with Hayes at R3. I accept that some of the pick is me wanting to pick an Essendon player, but long-term the club absolutely wants to get games into him. Ever since he was drafted keen-eyed fans have been talking about his prospects which pricked my ears up. He was a potential first-round pick before a couple of knee injuries hit, so the talent is obviously there.

Be interesting if Gawn drops back and is the defensive side of centre ruck and Jackson the forward side of centre ruck.

Martin tries to make Gawn accountable , use Dunkley against Jackson and play English as a "spare" midfielder/wingman.

Bont pushes forward as the extra marking option.

Id be lying if I said I havent seriously considered English, that 200k freed up is very handy.
Loving the English discussion. For me the 200k saved is obviously only worth it if you think it allows you to upgrade more points on field elsewhere. I saw the benefit of English as actually getting a rookie score off the ground and swinging Pruess into R2 as his upside is much higher than a Rachele type at F6.

In the end I saw that the extra 200k was making me pick some more speculative picks such as cramming both Rowell & Cripps at M5 & M6 respectively whilst maintaining a 4 premo (Hewett 4th) backline. The 200k could be used to upgrade a Gibcus type to a D5 but apart from Coleman I don’t really like many in that 220-350 bracket.

With that stacked midfield from having English I wasn’t too happy with the team balance as it forced Ward off the field and had both him and Stephens on the bench.

Downgrading Cripps to Hough now that he has named actually netted the 350k to go up to Gawn from English and fix Hewitt to Crisp, displacing the risks of English, Cripps & Hewitt to more reliable options.

Even though I’m still really bullish on Pruess, I think at this stage I’m happy to have him as a R3 for cash gen and then potentially as an on field option Rd 6 as it looks like he is in the running to get R/F status.

Was a Darcy owner in the back half of last year and loved it but barring injury I’ll do the boring thing and keep it simple with Grawndy
