Sicily the same price as Steele. Should I be targeting the top defender to finalize my def, or go with a Dawson, and target the top 10 mids I haven’t got. Seems too much to pay for Sicily, but he has scored like a mid. CD love him.

When I say finalize I have Whitfield and Rids, the latter I hope has turned the corner.

There could be huge upside if we are willing to take on the injury risk.
Like you say, we get a chance to view him leading up to the bye, if he looks the goods I think many coaches who are not ''trade poor'' will jump on.
Hmm, played every game this year, missed 1 last year and a couple the year before.

Got Sicily last week to 'finalise' my defence, pretty happy after 1 week, ( I have Ryan )

If possible, rather than finishing a line with a 'so so' player, I think that targeting a top line player to finish off is the way to go.

Think that's one of the reasons they were playing him the way they were. He played forward a lot at the start of last year. Might be an injury risk/management situation. I personally am not convinced his bad run is all ancient history but you are right about his late found durability being on record.

Kelly has usually beat up and bottom teams too. West Coast this week, Roos after his bye
If round twelve bye was no issue it wouldn't be the worst idea to bring him in now. If still upgrading this round anyone we bring in still has a future bye...

Last year he was definitely managed for the 1st 6 rounds then went 12/15 over 100, this year seems eerily similar but more impacted by Greene being out.

Keen for some thoughts on what to do this week. Team before trades below:

8C903813-4E87-486F-84A9-E5D6EFEAFC65.jpeg Option 1: MacDonald & Gibcus to Darcy and Buku. Allows me to wait a week and see with Cogs if there’s a role change with the new coach. Darcy could also get a mammoth score vs Collingwood

Option 2: Cogs & Daicos to Darcy & Dawson
Double upgrade that finishes my backline but have exactly $0 which could be a risk when looking to upgrade at the byes. Also means I miss out on Stewart but I do like Dawson as a pick.

Option 3: Gibcus & MacDonald to Buku & Laird
Means S Hayes still running at R2 but can avoid having to field Curtis or Rosas by keeping English in the ruck, but means I take a punt on Hayes on field vs Geelong. Leaves that last def spot for Stewart.

I hate the fact I’m paying out for him, but I might just well go for Sicily this week.

I don't know why everyone is so keen on finding def. rookies, surely there's an opportunity to hold either McCartin or SDK or even both with DPP flexibility, ie: one in the fwds. There's been a whole raft of rookies to come in over the last 3-4 weeks who will all add cash (to 1 level or another) I would think that most coaches have a full def line by now and the cash that's been made by other rookies should be enough to finance the upgrades needed which should be only 2-3 from this rnd.

I only have SDK, so my thinking may be a bit skewed, but both SDK and Paddy are pretty good scorers to have as bench cover with their DPP status.
Whilst that is a valid strategy, I don’t know why you are so surprised that people are keen to find def rookies. McCartin & SDK are both $300k plus and are approaching peak value and are averaging in the 60s. They are either leaking 30 point plus to a premo on field or are a lot of cash sitting on the bench. Upgrading these types to improve your on field team is SuperCoach 101. Those that don’t need their cash to upgrade are in the very small minority.

Sitting at D7 & D8 for me (although do have D Rioli forward atm) so eventually I need to cash one or both of them in to fund further upgrades.

Only other viable bench rookie atm making money is Hayes.

I just need to sit tight until the next lot of DPP's are announced and see where my forward line is heading.

Be very interesting if Kemp punches out a decent score Friday night and see how people react to the defensive rookies.

Agree, With all the good rookies having been mid and fwd everyone has downgraded in this region, unless you want to downgrade MacDonald at 200k.

would be better to go down Gibcus/SDK and up one def rookie if there was valid rookies.

Otherwise down def rookie and upgrade Cogs/Butter/Martin/Dixon. Same issue for def rookies as it is for ruck rookies, re Dixon who is at R3 for many.

Going to need make the call on one of these def rookies. Although COGS out first!

^I want Laird but fall about 20k short :(
I am tossing up between Walsh, Parish and J Kelly for the time being, byes coming are a pain but i'm in a good spot for R12 players
and I can't see any double downgrade targets.
I really like Carltons draw after the byes so am leaning Walsh.

Already have Dawson.

But i am thinking along the same Lines. Does Zorko enter the conversation.

Steele -Clark
ODriscal - Zorko/Sicily

Leaves SDK & #35 on the DEF Bench for the byes.

On Kemp, does he the skill set to play the Williams role. Thinking is a 70+ role.

RD12 bye is the only concern.

Who do we think scores more over the next 4 weeks;
DeGoey or Nic Martin?

Leaning towards Martin at the moment. DeGoey role seems to have stalled with 3 really sub par scores. Martin obviously had an off week on the weekend but prior to that, I'm happy to take 80-95 for F6. Just the 70s that De Goey has pumped out hurt consistently.

Essentially one of them gets upgraded to Laird for me this week, the other likely on field as F6 until post the Rnd 12 DPP changes and byes when I target Bont/Smith/return of English.

One is scheduled to play 3 games , the other 4 so you would think (hope) De Goey would score more.

Who are these better downgrade options? Charlie Dean? Will Kelly? Josh Worrell? Matt McGuinness? Sam Skinner? Will Gould?

I don't know how we can reasonably expect these guys to come in and start pumping out better scores than Khamis & Rory Thompson...
Isn't this the thing, we don't know yet. Maybe they're a mid season draftee who slots into half back somewhere, maybe they get a look in when Essendon or similar implements full tank mode.

Who knows. I just know I've been burnt at this stage of the year previously going down to someone who seems like the best of a bad bunch of options, who ends up making nothing much in terms of dollars and disappears.

It's everyone's personal judgement on the risk around these guys. If I was in the market for a def rookie this week I'd be looking at Thompson at 123k and Khamis at 127k, and considering them against Kemp at 156, and probably against Reid at 201 (who has by far the best JS) and trying to work out whether I'm taking a short term cash grab of 50 or 60k, whether I'm hoping for a warm body during the byes, or whether I'm hoping for long term bench coverage.

Everyone's team will have different needs, and everyone will have different appetite for risk.

Good luck with whichever way anyone goes. It will be interesting looking back and understanding what the best move was
