After some opinions please:

Current team $431,900 ITB 3 trades used:

Short, Ridley, Whitfiled, Hewett, Hinge, McCartin (Gibcus, De Konig)
Macrae, Neale, Jelly, Cripps, Rowell, Dacios, JHF, Ward (Stephens, MacDonald, Owens)
Grundy, English (Benning)
Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, Xerri, Hayes (Rachele, Durdin)

Option A:
Rachele and Owens to Martin and Clarry (leaves $13,700 ITB)

Option B:
Stephens and Owens to Martin and Green (leaves $146,700 ITB)

Martin has to come in, but just a question as to whom goes out.

Do you think I can justify (given the rookie situtation) going straight up to Clarry or should I take the value option?

If I trade Owens and Stephens I can get up to Steele, but not Miller.

Thoughts?
Wouldn't it be better to take Green now and Oliver later? He's priced at his peak, and given you have Macrae and Kelly I think you're overspending if you shell out another $663k for Clarry. Green has to be taken as a keeper mid though.

Looks bog standard to me in the right places mate, the only "off" looking picks are Parish and Mills in the mids (over say Cripps and a Macrae/Steele/Oliver/Trac etc. for the same money) but you picked them as POD keepers so stick fat.

Fading Dunkley is ... different

May unique too, be interesting to see what the addition of Lever does.

Lack of Brodie/Xerri/JHF might start to hurt if they get a spike score and restart the cash generation again.

You might need a plan for the rucks if Preuss levels off in scoring and Jackson is splitting points with Gawn.
:ROFLMAO:

Yeah thought i'd be clever and not take too many popular picks but as you would know that can work both ways, as I'm finding out lol

My plan for Preuss dropping off is Jackson to R2 (originally Hayes but looks like we can forget about that now). Probably need to get Gawndy in at some stage but while English is firing not to worried.

I'm looking at maybe Stephens to Dow if Stephens gets dropped. Did a quick read on the tiges board and they're talking him up, think he might be a poddish rookie. Or Mead seems like the other one I could probably take instead.

Worth keeping in mind that Melbourne play GWS next week and after what happened to Miller, I'd be hesitant to grab either Oliver or Trac until you know the impact of that game. Could get either at a significant discount and they've shown a tendency to go to Oliver in the past. Could make him a tasty round 7ish upgrade!

Green looks great but still question marks.. if you absolutely have to spend the catch ITB the I think he's a decent option. Otherwise potentially a backline premium (Hall, Stewart, Rich, etc) or a forward premium (Heeney, Treloar, etc) could open up some possibilities.

Gee that's a lineball call I reckon. If it were me I think I'd let fate decide. If Stephens survives, option A. If not, option B.

Exactly & why I am waiting till after that game to get Oliver.

Last 4 scores v GWS :- 87,67, 87 & 53, his worst team by far historically. I recall the game last year when De Boer was doing a real number on him before doing his hamstring about 1/2 time. Oliver's possessions till that point were very low, he got off the chain after the injury in the 2nd half & kicked a few goals if I recall correctly to rescue his score.

Oliver and Martin. Would be a classic move for a reason.

Early season upgrades make or break, make it a fair dinkum prem and she'll be apples :)

OK if I have Gawn/Grundy I am going Grundy to English make $100k to then upgrade either D. Stehens > Shiel/Lipinski or P.McCartin > N. Broad (only ones I could afford with good average). Can anyone tell me about Nathan Broad (Rich def.) 79. 108 and 130 does he have the role for SC. Then swing English fwd next week and bring in Pruess. Thank you :)

McCartin is making plenty so shelve that thought. I can see the aggressive idea of turning Grundy into English, and then swinging him forward. Do you already have Tom Green? I would have thought he is a better option than Shiel.

$51,00 short to get Green otherwise that would have been the best move, I can get Lipinski tho, so might do that and get a rookie off the field, thanks for the reply :)

Even though Merrett et al. are out for a period, Shiel still feels wrong.

Having said that, my recent advice on such matters could make it a genius move by you. I'm not going well.

He does seemed to have changed up his 1-dimensional game a bit, and you know he'll be at CBA's as much as anyone. It's his disposal that is a concern - he's a throw it on the boot player. (Then again, CD don't recognise Merrett's polish and ability to cut angles and open space, which is frustrating.)

Sheil will probably pump out 90's, give or take, for a while, but is that enough for a keeper?

Caveat emptor regarding both Sheil and my advice.

Grundy had a lot more sub 90 scores last year than Gawn - no other reason and the fact that I follow Melbourne lol. I should have done this trade last week, but I am always a week behind when it comes to trades. Money helps me get a rookie off field.

Wouldn’t a more reliable indicator for ruckman be ruck contests attended rather than centre bounce attendances, given both are readily available?
Generally, yes.

However certain injuries make it more difficult if you are competing front on. If Marshall had a rib problem on his right side for example, he could contest boundary throw-ins starting on the right and only expose his left side to contact. Similiar around the ground as he can lock on to the other player from a favoured side.

Why would a player contest 87% of CBA's in round 1 (against a very good ruckman in Grundy) and only 52% in round 2? Especially given his back-up (Hayes) had a great game in round 1 playing predominantly as a forward. Hayes is hardly a better centre bounce ruckman than Marshall, so alarm bells naturally started ringing.

GAWN

Round 3 - 47 Ruck contests with a win rate of 36% and a HTA of 17%. Generally HTA were low for most rucks in that game,

Season average of 3 games for Gawn:

152 Ruck contests for win rate of 45.4% and HTA of 24.6%

Gawn basically like many sides playing Essendon picked up a lot of possessions to compensate for his poor ruck numbers.
Thanks for that. Interesting numbers. Out of curiosity do you know his average for last year?
2021 Gawn
HItout wins 58%
HTA 31%

Expectation that Dixon and Hough will be dropped this week and may not get back in to the team for a while? Question for the WCE supporters, thanks

With the rumoured ins/ players available for this week I think both will be outs.

Hough I think will struggle to get back in, Dixon is a better chance to get games as I expect JK to get regular rests during the season.

Any last minute thoughts on Jackson Mead vs Thomson Dow?
I'm finding it a little difficult to split them, but the scales are leaning slightly towards Dow?

I reckon Dow's a good shout even with Prestia back. Subbed out of his low score game too with a knock which I hadn't realised 'till today.

I'm struggling to split picking up Brodie vs Dow.
