I would be interested on anyones thoughts on the return of Thug to GWS. Not so much his scoring but if he has any structural impact on the team especially T Green and Josh Kelly. Considering bringing Jelly in this round or next. When you are back from the driving range @wogitalia if you have time I would appreciate your thoughts on this as I know you are a Jelly tragic and have a deep love of the coaching nous of Leon:sneaky:

Don't think with the likes of Gibcus and SDK that I'd want to cover Hall for even a 3 week hammy

So he's on the chop, as well as Rowell.

In another random question, does anyone have Cogs BE? Outside of that spike game he looks like a 90 average kind of guy, which only puts him 30-40k below peak price (barring another spike )...
Surely a cheap F6 with swing at worst?

Well you lured me in with the flattery

I think he only helps, he's their best forward and while Cameron loves left field moves Greene at FF has been by far his most reluctant change to make, I personally think it's stupid as he's by far their best 2 way running midfielder that isn't a pea-hearted astronaut named Whitfield and his disposal has improved markedly since he was younger.

Realistically though he's playing FF, perhaps the biggest negative may actually be to Preuss as having Greene at FF would definitely allow them to drop the Keeffe/Riccardi 3rd tall/2nd ruck type and play a genuine 2nd ruck in Flynn/Preuss, which would give them midfield dominance which as I write this knowing that's the thing Cameron hates more than anything makes me doubt it but...

Releases Coniglio/Taranto more from a bit of forward work they're doing but I expect those two still go through HF for large parts of the game, neither has been filling Greene's role. Kelly will still be playing his "avoid winning the midfield" role on the wing with stints on the ball that will, shockingly, coincide with the Giants winning clearances and going forward and then dissipate when he moves back outside to spaceman roles he's not actually well suited to.

Green probably also gets the release from up forward a bit more but I think his engine is still the primary reason for his forward time so not expecting a huge change there. As long as Greene, Kelly and Hopper (inj) are not playing proper midfield roles then Green remains their only genuine extractor who gives the ball to Giants players, Taranto is better suited to the defensive sweeper role he has primarily played this year when midfield, still as a ball winner but not the primary target.

Basically I think it's beneficial for most, probably not the rucks if they go 2 rucks like they should, as Greene will be marooned up forward which means the others shouldn't be.

SC wise, having a genuinely good leading forward target who actually runs to the right spots it should be very beneficial to Whitfield, Kelly and Coniglio as the primary kickers but also anyone else kicking. Also beneficial to Hogan who also does that. They'll both still have Himmelberg running around like a chicken with it's head cut off going to the wrong spots and dragging his defender to the contest but he's got pictures of Cameron doing bad things and seemingly can't be dropped despite being not very good so that's inevitable unfortunately.

It goes against all the SC rules but I have to admit I am very tempted to go

Grundy, Rowell, Whitfield > Pruess, Steele, Petracca

Leaves me like this :-

Goes against all the rules but so tempted

Thoughts?
Can't really fault getting rid of Rowell and Whitfield, false premo's, but getting rid of Grundy i'm not 100% sure on. Yes us owners are upset that he scored poorly on the weekend, is he playing injured? or was it a bad game with lots of hit outs sharked, clangers, etc. From memory he had 5-6 HTA in the final quarter when all the points were used up but by then it was over.

Suggestion, sure trade out Rowell and Whitfield and get in a Steele/Petracca type and maybe with some dpp get Preuss? that way you are using 2 trades instead of 3 and getting in a huge money maker in Preuss until Cameron decides to stuff things up and plays 2 rucks and/or he injures himself which isn't out of the ordinary for him lol. Keep Grundy, he was circa 100 avg until this week. Or can you wait a week and bypass Preuss and go from Hayes from Port? thats what i'm leaning towards but then again i'm ranked 40k so take the above with a grain of salt :D

Thanks for the summary @wogitalia and in particular your added comments around Cogs who atm is part of my trade plans for this round (as in I might cash him in). Like you I think Kelly could be a premium scorer but it just isn't happening in recent times. Looking at a number of options to bring in this round including Oliver, Bailey Smith and Touk as well as Jelly.

For the record I find flattery with a dash of sarcasm is quite a heady mix and can get quite good results*

*Disclaimer -this does not work with girls and may lead to ringing of your ears, severe redness of the cheeks and sometimes bleeding from your lips.

I have no idea how Coniglio would be in the trade plans.

Currently 10th averaging forward, is 2ppg off of the 6th best, has as good a role as anyone above him, has proven scoring history and is, touch wood, looking fit.

It's a pointlessly sideways trade, there's just no metric that he's tradeable right now, if he's your F6 you've already got everyone above him, if he's your F5 then you've got someone to upgrade to to bump him to F6, basically if he's your F6 and those 2ppg are your biggest issue you're so far ahead of everyone that it doesn't matter and we know that's not the case.

I just find it impossible that Coniglio at F6 leaking 2 points to Lipinski/Butters/Brodie group is a position that needs upgrading at any point of the season, nevermind at the end of round 5 when you've definitely got bigger issues.

I'd steer well clear of Jelly in that group, he's a guy you need to see a strong month of the right role, the point where he tells Cameron he's demanding a trade if he keeps dicking him around, ideally this year it's when Cameron gets fired... As much as I love him Touk looks injured right now, would love to see his GPS stats but if his average running speed isn't at about 2/3 of normal the last couple of weeks I'd be shocked. He just flat out screams OP right now, no burst from the stoppage, not hitting top speed, not working nearly as hard as he normally does to space, not really looking to get on the end to be the guy that kicks, not getting penetration on his longer kicks and also not tackling, not even trying to tackle which is another telltale sign. I hope I'm wrong but he just doesn't look like Touk at all, basically not doing any of the things that make Touk, Touk and I'd want to see that before thinking about him before Oliver who is proven and looks good.

Smith and Oliver both look great options.

Luke Parker has added DPP, appears to have had an OK role the last game or two, is cheap and his price allows a sighter prior to committing to bringing him in.
In anyone's plans?
Edit: Was only back in a better role last game , cf also Feerits Elf comment below.

Have went with Hall > Hewett and JHF > Rosas. Cash for a forward upgrade next week from Xerri. Was tempted to get Houston and not Hewett, may still do that.

Have some money in the bank so this is workable, JHF to Rosas, Rowell to Oliver and Ridley to Touk Miller via Daicos.

I'm done with Ridley and his role. I have 30 trades left and my side has no other large holes as far as keepers go, he is an issue I want to be aggressive and on the front foot with and fix. Even if his scoring picks up in his role he's only going to go 95ish if things get better, his floor appears lower than that and his ceiling barely higher.

Oliver has a high BE but against Richmond he probably goes big and only drops a further 20k.

My only worry is 0 tackles for Touk the past two weeks, is he carrying a shoulder injury? Seems strange that you could win so much contested footy but not be able to tackle with a shoulder injury, usually the player still tackles and the numbers are just lower.

That is why I was interested in your Cogs comments. Over the next two round the plan is to bring in Oliver and Smith (or similar) and a Darcy/Gawn but the cash must come from somewhere. The 149 gets him up the averages but I don't know if that distorts things or not. I have a plan B to get the same players in so I will revisit that.

After a bit of a drop I’m thinking

Hall -> Oliver
Rowell -> English/Heeney/degoey/lipinski
JHF -> rosas or a loop

Don’t seem to have any dud rookies so am considering grabbing a mid/fwd loop

Question is which of the fwds?

English leaves me 1k in bank and lipinski around 140k

Thoughts opinions what we reckon?

Put together a rough three week plan:

This week: Grundy/Rowell/Hall for Rosas/Steele/Stewart

Next week:
Rachele/Ward for Hayes (PTA) & Hobbs

Week after: Berry for Oliver.
Should have the funds for this. If not can always trade a fattened rookie to a bubble boy.
