With the extra trades on offer this season and potential dual position additions, I would not bother starting a ruck forward if you are going with a two premium setup such as Gawn and Grundy. Need to be extremely confident that they will provide value and sufficient points to be worthwhile of a starting spot, as you are relying on an injury to one of your rucks to extract the full value of a ruck/forward early on to compensate for points lost. This play is better left until the midway or latter stages of the season and will provide a better assessment of the options if an injury opens up a clear number one ruck role.
I think this is probably correct especially given I am not really sold on any of the options.
Thanks Con

I reckon Jackson is the perfect option especially even more so with Hayes and or Strnadica hopefully with both or either being r/f to see who will be number 1 or 2 with Grundy

rather than overpay for

Gawn-who Jackson will take time away from

Darcy-with this achilles being mentioned with someone his size

nicnat-who knows whether he will continue with his scoring form last year

ROB-could potentially breakout

English-same as ROB

Preuss-if Flynn gets injured he would be a better option obviously
Is the handcuff in play here?

Gawn/Jackson combo 100% of ruck points gained with the upside of a spike score when either scores 4 goals resting forward, or intercept marking resting back. Dangerous duo.

Much happier with preuss at r3 then r2
Yep, but if Pruess, Haynes, Comben the WCE bloke all get named. Pruess R2 could be the way to go, but would need an English type as cover.

Hoping that the rookie rucks come later in the year to be honest, so can keep it simple with set and forget.

Recent reports suggest Max Lynch is essentially 50/50 to be handed the top ruck position at the Hawks with Big Boy set to play 2nd fiddle down forward.

$207,700 option. Played 2 games last year for two wins for the pies including beating the demons whilst having more hit outs than Gawn in that match-up.

Don't know much about the bloke but certainly interested in taking a closer look through the pre-season games.

Confirmed Big boy to play more forward, it's between Reeves and Lynch. I prefer Lynch if I had to pick.

My only issue on Grundy is I want to say that his last couple of years of, lets call it lackadaisical, football were an FU to Buckley, similar to Moore dogging the crap out of him as a forward, but then he was even worse under Harvey so that went out the window and it really only leaves the "he got his contract and no longer cares" answer for how he's played since he got that contract...

Admittedly, of the negative tales it's the best one so there's that because even 2nd rate effort Grundy is really, really good!

I don't know how the rucks always mess with me so much, I'm not back to the point where taking a 10 point loss on Gawn doesn't seem that bad
