Dunkley possibly over priced, he’s an upgrade target in my opinion, he’s at the higher end of his historical SC output. Taranto and Cogs better value options I reckon.
You might be overthinking it a touch. He's a starting inside mid with a high ceiling, at the peak of his career, available as a forward and in two-thirds of teams. Dunkley versus Taranto/Coniglio isn't an either/or proposition, take all 3.
Hopper never averaged over 100 and has always missed games, too much risk for a starting mid position I feel.
At his price he doesn't need to average over 100, he'll be flicked to a keeper at the byes or at the first sign of trouble.
I like Jones in there, I’ve got a solid three premo defence behind him so I feel it’s low risk to start him a D4, defence always has a lower average for him to end up as a keeper.
Nothing against Jones as a pick (not for me though), but he and the 9 rookies you're fielding have to do a lot of heavy lifting.

Also forgot to mention some anecdotal experience, I’ve had a fall in rankings over the past couple of seasons and I think I can attribute it to going too light on in the mids. Also got smashed in some draft leagues last year by trying to be savvy and selecting the top FWDS/BACKS in each line before prioritising the Mids, rationalising it due to the supposed depth in value through the mids. However a full premo midfield is worth a whole lot more than any other line and so this is also why I suggested downgrading one of your premium backs to upgrade Rowell in order not to fall to far behind some of the Mid heavy teams. However again, if you think LDU, Rowell and Hopper can keep up sufficiently enough so that your other lines can prosper earlier than others then it’s as good a game plan as any. There’s just a bit of risk there and I’d be hesitant that those three can pull enough weight. In saying that, this is still one of the better teams I’ve seen so far.
Thank you for both responses greatly appreciated. I’ve been on the same trend and now that you mention it, I put it down to far less research the last few years but a big reason I definitely recall from last year was being caught way behind other teams in the midfield lines.

I’ve had a rethink about the structure of the team heavily and can see room to move Stewart and Dawson down. I’d probably be more confident in keeping Stewart and go 1 of Daicos / Young.

Have moved on from Hooper and just going 1 of Green/LDU being LDU.

The ruck line is getting me out of works at the moment. I’m somewhat thinking Rata at R2 just because I don’t trust really any of the mid prices (Cameron, Draper) and the reduced price premiums in Gawn and Grundy seem to impact each other too much. Darcy appeals to me but Jackson could somewhat hinder him.

Witts could be a good set and forget but my brain doesn’t want to do it.

At the moment I’ve settled on (for the time being):

Stewart, Young, Yeo, Ginbrey, McKenna, Chesser (Constable, Wilmot)

Oliver, Macrae, Cripps, Merrett, LDU, Ashcroft, Goater, Phillips (Johnson, Blakely, Sinn)

Marshall, Ratugolea (Madden)

Dunkley, Coniglio, Rozee, Taranto, Cunnington, McLean (Davey, Drury)

I’d happily upgrade Cunnington by downgrading Stewart to Daicos but there aren’t many forwards > 500k that appeal that I don’t have already.

The dilemma is definitely around M4, R2 and F5.

I also don’t like too many North players who will be a poor side. There is an option there to go even higher in the mids. Moving Cunnington down to a <250k forward allows Goater up to Hooper in the mids or down to a 120k forward can allow Goater up to a 590k mid if I also move Stewart down to Daicos.

This is what I’ve done at the moment but you can see the conundrum at R2, F5, M5/6.

I do think I like Green -> Hooper & Philipou -> Fyfe but fairly concerned Fyfe will just play pure forward this year and might not get near even a 90+ average.

What’s the plan if Rat is a failed pick at R2 through poor scores/ gets injured/ dropped early on in the season?

No other viable options at his price range so would need to double trade & lose a premium on another line which hurts your structure I would think.

Too much risk involved I think, yes we need to take risks but educated risks with a viable bail out plan is what is needed. Rat at R3 or looped at F6/F7 I think is the go - expect volatile scoring from him.

Thanks.

Hoping my F5 being Ziebell/Fyfe can make 150k, Ratu moved to forwardline and then work out the best ruck at R2 to have between 500-600k.

Just hard as no one appeals under 550k at R2 like none of them and then Darcy or English would be the main targets but I need to see their role / scoring first.

I’ll certainly toss my team around by the time I start but it’s just a very tricky spot at R2 with no one really appealing at all. Not going anywhere near Cameron, Draper mid priced I’m not sure I’d trust yet.

I could if I get too nervous move Ratu to F5 and change Ziebell/Fyfe to Draper. But it’s really just looking at who I think will make the quickest track to 500k + out of Draper or Fyfe/Ziebll. Draper in that scenario i think is slower/riskier but is less of a risk at R2 starting as it removes risk of Ratugolea being dropped with no backup.

Bowes to Goater , Ratugolea to F5 and then Madden R3 for me.

Or:

Out: Bowes -> Chesser to Defense
Ratugolea to F5
Madden into R2
Any mid <196k in (Philipou maybe?)

Prefer Goater > Philipou but would leave you only 4-5k

If you really like Bowes.
Laird -> Merrett/Cripps
Ratugolea F5
In: Madden R2

Feels like the team is changing every day now; finally succumbed to the Green hype; him over Laird just gives so much more to work with on the bench.

One of the better sides I have seen. 12 premiums above $500k and realistic rookies. Hard to fault.

No way you would want to run Laird over Green when every rookie is 123k on the bench and no obvious downgrade choices.

Really want this to work, room to move. But I am stuck, thinking Marshall to T Dekoning. Gonna spend a few trades on this line already. Let rip.

I think you could afford to lose one of your expensive mids maybe for Hopper or Sheed?..or Rozee for Ziebell, and keep your rucks the way they are.

I like this, it's bold, a clear thought process and good selections. My small tinker would The Pou to Greene up front and see if get Young can to Saad with 20k from kitty/ bench rookie. Cheers

Ok, it’s starting to come together, thoughts?

$152k up my sleeve.
I thought Will Gould was a myth! 😂 the myth maketh the man! lol
Cameron played 2nd ruck to Cox this weekend I read. After his injury they may just be working him in to the season. So need to watch that this week to see what happens there.
Having Rat as R3 could be a trap. A dropped player at R3 with a 2nd string ruck at R2 would leave you in dire need of an upgrade and at Dcam’s price without extra funds in the kitty would require 2 trades to fix.

Your about $100k short from filling the team with Rookies on the mid bench so I’d let go of D1 or D2 down to Daicos or Young. Dont forget to find some DPP’s to use as cover if required.
I think Rat at F7 is a trap. And a bit too much $$$ sitting on the bench. Just in case there in an emergency break glass? If R1 or R2 break down in a game, not much you can do then. Trade if required before the next game, with 36 trades this year why bother with the cover? See what comes our way in R6 with the DPP announcements.
