I attended the game yesterday so got to watch him live - my opinion of him has been elevated further, absolute clearance beast/ very strong & hard to take down. If he has an uninterrupted preseason then I can't see myself passing on him, very dynamic player that could well become elite next year if he can stay fit.

Impressed the hell out of me playing Geelong, the problem will be there will be no real value there and he's not the most durable guy going around, generally the types I pass on as starters.

Agree on the durability front but I think the value is there. Will be underpriced due to games where he has been injured or where he has played underdone. Currently will be priced at 113.3 and I can see him averaging 120-125 if he can get a clear run at it.

Still 4 rounds left and has a pretty easy run home, every chance hes priced at 115+, that's a pretty hard sell for a guy that's done multiple soft tissue injuries for mine as good as he is when up and running.

Traded him in round # 17 at a tad under $500k and has been one of the few trades I've gotten right this season going at 131 from the 4 games so far. Has that ability to score quickly and with 4 QTR's put together will put up some monster scores.

LDU is an interesting one for me. Has shown a big ceiling and a low floor. I think he could go 125 BUT he needs to stay fit which is something he’s had issues with. Will obviously have a soft draw next season. He may be underpriced, but by no means will he be cheap. Say he finishes on a 115 average… he’ll be priced at roughly $635k.

At this stage I’ll probably pass and pick him up when he has a price drop. But all of this sounds like someone I was talking about this preseason… Tim English. And look at how he turned out.

I agree with this.. the talent and upside is undeniably there but you can only afford so many $600k+ players in your starting team, and the premium needs to be put on history, VC/C reliability, etc. There is nothing worse than paying that much for a guy that everyone else gets $100k cheaper in perfect upgrade season. Yes can happen to anyone, but there is a lot to be said for taking history on board.

Also has the ability to burst out of packs and kicks goals. Has the perfect game for SC, is still only 24 so just entering his prime. No doubt he'll be a 120ppg player when fully fit.

I tend to agree. If you’re spending up big, you want to be pretty sure they’re worth the outlay, and it’s hard to be sure of that when someone doesn’t have more than one premium season behind them. There are lots of good mids to choose from, probably more so than any other position, so the hurdle is pretty high for me.

Durability has to play a big part in the decision when you're spending that much, durability and proven historical scoring.

Just don’t see myself going there when you have the likes of Cripps, Steele and Miller who should all end up with a 2023 average of 100-105 and a 2024 price tag of 550-580k.

Even Mills is currently only going at 87.3 if you’re willing to take a punt on him.

True, but again, I took that into account also with English this season and again, how’d that work out.
We were talking about midfielders though, and English if you started with him this year, was just good luck because he hasn't been durable or high scoring consistently, until this season.

I think that one of the best uses of all the extra trades is starting a player that you would really like to select, but for their injury risk. There’s a lot more capacity to bear the injury risk than in prior years, and the upside from getting it right is a lot higher than some of the sideways trades that probably crept in for a lot of sides this year.

I reckon that taking the injury risk for a player you think could be an absolute top liner also makes more sense in the ruck, given there are usually fewer good options, and more of a gap if you don’t pick the right one.

I understand the thinking here but it's hard for me to get behind considering how badly injuries compromised my upgrades and final team this year...

That said, two of the injuries I copped were because I chose not to get English until there was really no other viable option...
