Nightmare start for me. Had Bont VC and English having a mare of a game. Sanders subbed too so is likely my 22nd scorer. Sam Darcy could have hit triple figures but missed a lot of shots on goal. At least new recruit Martin hit triple figures but would have liked a bit more. Quite behind the Gawn owners/VCers and in need of a new C and can't rely on Heeney again.

Shame about Sanders. You feel he’s going to go on a good run given how much ball he wins, but in the middle of upgrade season you can’t really have those 40s lingering.

Happy to be a non-Bont/English owner this week.

3/485 via Gawn (c) Lohmann Darcy & Sanders 46 so a decent enough start - albeit only carrying 21 this week. Hopefully Sanders drops out and I can take advantage of the low scores for the big dogs.

Who to take off the field to get Darcy's score?

- Cadman vs. STK
- Campbell vs. WCE

Campbell a chance to kick a bag, maybe?

T English - opened $715,100
Scores: bye, 119, 138, 124, 117 - ave 124.5 - BE 154
Scored 58 - now $672,900 BE 213 - ave now 111.2
If he goes 125, 125 ---> $609,000 BE 105
Grundy to Gawn popular too.
Surprised me that 13.7% of coaches dumped Grundy, 6.4% went to Meekiamnot, 2.2% to Gawnmonster and only 1.8% to Engrishnotsogood. Though Timmy would be higher.

Balance quite smartly moved Jackson to the mids to buy some more time and target value player like Hornet, Combinationlock and ManofSteele.

The meaning of life, the universe and everything = 43. Oh wait...
Yes, Bevo didn't finish the book and never received the map to the universe, currently being sucked into a black hole and wondering how does he get out. Oh that's right, start saying you are blooding youth in round 5.

5/593 (Gawn) - new boy Nic Martin solid, Bont disappointing, Sanders fortunately on bench with an E (replaced by Jhye Clark so keeping the celebration very low key). .

Vc used on Bont, obviously not taking. Always disconcerting when two of your top premiums score under 75. Have to write it off as a stinker and move on.

Got a few options for the C but not overly confident in any. Shall make a decision closer to the game. McKay, Serong or Stewart look the likely options.

Bont has become a bit of a worry, not him per se but what Bevo is doing. Played forward in rnd 3 to break the hard Yeo tag and his score was saved with 9 tackles and 3 goals, just the 16 possessions. I didn't see the game last night but from what I understand he went forward after attending CB's. Just the 17 possessions, 3 tackles and no goals.

I started him ostensibly as a VC/C option but didn't factor Bevo into the decision, he has now become unreliable as a Captain and I'm not sure whether I could even VC him

I was incensed when I saw that Beveridge had subbed Sanders off for 43 (scaled up to 46 after the match).

Then I realised he had also subbed Sanders off in Rd 1 for 43.

So I decided to do a deep dive on our "Mr Beveridge".

Turns out that:
  • He was offered the Bulldogs head coaching job by Simon Garlick towards the end of the 2014 AFL season while still assistant at Hawthorn at the age of ... 43
  • His record number of disposals as a junior playing for St Peters Football Club in Bentleigh East was ... 43
  • His great-grandfather, Paul Beveridge, died on 28 February 19 hundred and ... 43
  • His father, legendary Saints recruiter John Beveridge, was born in 1939. However, that was an accident and his grandfather, legendary Pies centreman Jack Beveridge, and grandmother Mercia had not intended to conceive until 19 hundred and ... 43
  • He played 42 senior games for his first AFL club, Melbourne. Aha! you say, that's not enough. Yes but he also played one night match for them for a grand total of ... 43
  • He is an unabashed admirer of gritty Dogs defender Ryan Gardner who wears number ... 43
  • He is a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan and his favourite player of all time is Pro Football Hall of Famer, safety Troy Polamalu who wore number ... 43. Next week Beveridge plans to send him a DM to congratulate him on turning ... 43
  • He was head coach of the Dogs at the time of the 2021 National Draft when they took Arthur Jones at pick number ... 43
  • His favourite meal at the Boundary Hotel is the chicken parmigiana and chips (no salad thanks) which is on the menu as item number ... 43
I think the evidence is compelling. I am now convinced that Beveridge is a member of a numerology cult that worships the number 43.

Unless he is removed, and quickly, he will keep subbing off Ryley Sanders when he reaches the score of 43 to satisfy some sick paganistic desire or as an unholy tribute to his numeric deity.

For the sake of the integrity of both the Supercoach competition and the broader competition as a whole, he needs to go.

Your move AFL. The football world is watching.
This post made my day (or rather night) after seeing Sanders being subbed off again on 43 points.
That is some good digging right there!

Just saw the footage of Libba collapsing and subsequent bulldust that it was an ankle tweak which caused him to lose balance. It's as plain as the nose on my face that it was a serious issue, serious enough in fact that Parish immediately signalled for the medicos, you don't do that if someone just falls over.

I completely agree. I'm hoping there are some serious repercussions here from the AFL that clubs need to look after the health and safety of players much more, as that's pretty damning. Expecting a slap on the wrist if anything though.

Agree, it's time that the AFL came down hard on clubs sweeping concussion issues under the carpet, if a player can get 3 weeks for a ****phobic slur then what are the ramifications for a club not upholding their duty of care to a player?
