I finished in 42nd for the season in the end. Bit of a drop from 25th after Rd 9, but still a great result. Very happy with that!
Thanks to everyone here who posted your teams before the season kicked off. I have never followed the AFLW before this season, I had seen a game or two at times, and recognised a couple of names but that was it. I decided to just pick some popular players from teams posted here for my starting team (which worked well) and added in a few of my own picks (which were all poor choices). It got me a good starting team, and I couldn't have managed a result this well without you.
I still don't know how I did so well - I saw parts of just two or three matches all season again this year - bit embarrassing to admit, although I did like what I did get to see. I think this lack of knowledge may have helped me be unbiased in my selections and to pick solely on stats, form and match ups. A short season also helped - it favours trading hard and not necessarily looking for value with every trade which is something I do too much in other fantasy comps. It did make trades harder towards the end of the season, when I had less easy cash to use, but trading in a few of the better gun players early at the expense of bench cover set up my good result.
I honestly did not expect a result anywhere near this good when I signed up, I originally just did it to fill in a bit of a gap in between other fantasy sports, expecting to maybe crack the top 1000 if everything went right. I'm glad I gave it a go - it is the best result I've ever had in any fantasy sport, and I definitely have more respect for the players than I did before it started. There's plenty of talent in the AFLW, and I really hope to see more support of the competition from the AFL, media and general public over coming years.
Hopefully everyone else was happy with their final results. I'll definitely be back to do even better next time around, hopefully this is even bigger and better in 2023.
