Adelaide Strikers

Chris Lynn
Matt Short
Jake Weatherald
Adam Hose
Colin de Grandhomme
Tom Kelly
Harry Nielsen
Rashid Khan
Henry Thornton
Wes Agar
Harry Conway

Other squad members: Alex Carey, Travis Head, Cameron Boyce, Ryan Gibson, Henry Hunt

Selection intel: Entering the tournament in red-hot form, Chris Lynn is the high-profile signing at the top of the order.

Kiwi veteran Colin de Grandhomme also joins the Strikers and provides firepower with the willow in the middle order, while he’s likely to be fifth or sixth choice bowler alongside Matt Short, who is likely to be more favoured after an economical outing in BBL11.

Peter Siddle is yet to re-sign after topping the wicket-taking charts last tournament with 30 scalps, five clear of second place.

The veteran Australian quick suffered an ankle injury during warm-up in Tasmania’s recent Sheffield Shield win over victory that is being monitored.

If he does extend for another tournament as expected, Wes Agar would likely be the unlikely man to miss out, however the Strikers have opted for a rotation policy among the fast bowling contingent in previous years.

Alex Carey and Travis Head are unlikely to feature until January 8 at the earliest due to international duties.

Handscomb can actually bat though, Nielsen is a spud imo. But yeah, really comes down whether we want Gilkes on field round 2
If Handscomb actually plays , posted earlier if their is a spot for him.

Some clarity on S Marsh would be nice.

I agree Nielsen is a spud , will just be WK2 all season.

I will be have all 3 of Gilkes , Inglis & Nielsen in my starting squad , and won't be afraid to trade out Gilkes if necessary in Round 2.

If he doesn't open , he is definitely not worth the coin.

Anyway I have flogged the Nielsen horse enough.

Time for some Test cricket.

Other squad members: Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja, Jack Wildermuth, Will Prestwidge, Sam Heazlett, Josh Brown, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhnemann, Sam Hain

Selection intel: Colin Munro, Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings are the big name recruits in a new-look top order for the Brisbane Heat.

Loaded with all-round talent, it remains to be seen just how much of a role Renshaw plays with the ball in BBL12.

While far from locked in, Max Bryant looks the man to fill the void left by the departed Chris Lynn.

English batsman Sam Hain, who was brought up on the Gold Coast, joins the side as a replacement for Colin Munro or Sam Billings, who are set to depart in early January.

Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja will be available from January 8 at the earliest following international duties.

Selection intel: Hobart has recruited well from T20 World Cup finalists Pakistan, with Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan joining the squad.

Khan is expected to play up until Pakistan’s Test series with New Zealand on January 11, while Ashraf will miss the opening stages on Test duties.

With Peter Handscomb not on the books as it stands, Caleb Jewell is the front-runner to slot into the middle order.

Tim David may also earn a promotion up the order.

Selection intel: High-profile English recruit Liam Livingstone is a late scratching from the tournament due to workload.

West Indian veteran Andre Russell will play the early stages of the tournament and provide strikepower in the middle order along with another bowling option.

Kiwi international Martin Guptill replaces Livingstone. He’ll join the side in game five in place of the departing Dre Russ.

Tom Rogers and Mujeeb Ur Rahman add class to the bowling attack, with the latter also departing in early January for the ILT tournament.

Will Sutherland and Mackenzie Harvey are likely to fight for a spot in the side.

Shaun Marsh is in some doubt for the early stages with a niggling injury.

Other squad members: Glenn Maxwell, Tom O’Connell, Sam Elliot, Liam Hatcher, Clint Hinchliffe, Cam McClure, Campbell Kellaway

Selection intel: New Zealand superstar Trent Boult is the big name signing for the Melbourne Stars.

The quick will be available until early January when he departs for the ILT tournament.

Glenn Maxwell’s freak injury will see him potentially miss the entire tournament, opening a door for Joe Burns to return to the middle order.

Mystery also surrounds the fitness of veteran speedster Nathan Coulter-Nile, who is in doubt for the beginning of the tournament, with little word provided by the Stars.

Melbourne has rounded out its squad with the signings of local players Cam McClure and Campbell Kellaway.

PERTH SCORCHERS
Phil Salt
Josh Inglis
Mitchell Marsh
Cameron Bancroft
Ashton Turner
Aaron Hardie
Ashton Agar
Jhye Richardson
Andrew Tye
Tymal Mills
Jason Behrendorff

Other squad members: Cameron Green, Peter Hatzoglou, Matthew Kelly, Lance Morris, Nick Hobson, Cooper Connolly

Selection intel: The Scorchers once-settled line-up has taken a few hits in recent days, with Englishman Laurie Evans having his contract torn up after testing positive for a banned substance.

Phil Salt is also under an injury cloud after sustaining a concussion in the third ODI clash with Australia, but is likely to be OK to take his place in the side.

Evans’ absence will see Cameron Bancroft return to the batting line-up, where he will either provide a direct replacement at No.4, or switch to his preferred opening role, with Josh Inglis dropping down the order.

In a stacked bowling attack, a frequent rotation is likely between the bowling contingent.

Peter Hatzoglou may be the unlucky man out, should the Scorchers opt to use Ashton Agar as the front-line spinner.

Matthew Kelly is also likely to enter the rotation at stages.

Other squad members: Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, Jack Edwards, Kurtis Patterson, Todd Murphy, Izharulhaq Naveed

Selection intel: No major changes to a very settled Sydney Sixers roster.

Two of the most in-form cricketers at state level are likely vying for one spot in Daniel Hughes and Kurtis Patterson.

Should Patterson win the spot, he’d likely open, with retained English import James Vince shifting to No.3.

Last tournament’s revelation Hayden Kerr may also find himself promoted up the order for a few cameos at stages throughout the season.

SYDNEY THUNDER
Alex Hales
Matt Gilkes
Rilee Rossouw
Jason Sangha
Alex Ross
Daniel Sams
Ben Cutting
Chris Green
Nathan McAndrew
Brendan Doggett
Tanveer Sangha

Other squad members: David Warner, Ollie Davies, Baxter Holt

Selection intel: The Sydney Thunder have one of the more settled rosters in the tournament, with South African import Rilee Rossouw adding some firepower to the top order.

With English platinum pick in the draft David Willey withdrawing from the tournament, veteran Ben Cutting is likely to earn a reprieve to the team.

Replacing Willey will be Afghanistan international quick Fazal Farooqi, who will be available for the first nine games.

Tanveer Sangha has succumbed to stress fractures in his back that will see him miss at least the early stages of the tournament.

Quick to move, the Thunder have also announced the signing of Pakistan international leg-spinner Usman Qadir.

This leaves the squad with four international signings, however only three are allowed to play in any singular game, meaning a rotation policy will have to be implement, primarily between Qadir and Farooqi.

Exciting youngster Ollie Davies is also pushing his case to replace veteran Alex Ross in the middle order, while Gurinder Sandhu is likely to enter the XI if he officially signs on for the tournament as expected, creating strong competition for spots.

David Warner will join the side from January 8 earliest following Australia’s Test summer.

Siddle signed last week :-

Fast bowler Peter Siddle will remain in Adelaide Strikers blue for the sixth consecutive season, re-signing for KFC BBL|12.

The Strikers captain for BBL|11, Siddle took 30 wickets, including a five-wicket haul against the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval in January, as he led the Strikers to The Challenger final, ultimately falling just short of The Final.

Since BBL|03, Siddle has played 68 Big Bash League matches, the majority of those for the Strikers, and overall has taken 90 wickets at an average of 19.40 and a strike rate of 15.70.

Currently playing both Sheffield Shield and One-Day cricket for Tasmania, Siddle recently took eight wickets in a Shield match against South Australia.

Siddle said he can’t wait to get back out onto Adelaide Oval and play in front of the Strikers fans again.

“I love the Strikers and playing in front of some of the best fans in the League at the best ground in the world,” Siddle said.

“There have been some nice additions to our squad since last season while keeping the core group together and I am excited for us to build on our finals appearance last season and to see what the group can do together in BBL|12.”
