Tbh I'm probably missing something with the Mitch Marsh selection! There are a few guys that I picked not being 100% sure of availability and/or role but that the price point loosely fits what I'd be looking to pay and the DGR structure I'm aiming for. He will in all likelihood change to a different Scorcher/Striker as the picture becomes cleaner, but overall I'm thinking I want to aim for 9 rd1 DGR players, and 6 who have the DGR in round 2, which will hopefully mean really solid coverage across the early rounds!
That makes sense. I always start with a structural plan, then work the players around that. It should get easier once squads are finalised and we have a clearer picture on player availability. Regarding Marsh, I would be surprised if he wasn’t in the test team.

Overton just made his ODI debut , golden duck batting @ 8

West Indies was reduced to 35 overs (Archer , Turner , Rashid , S Curran , Livingstone , Bethell all bowled)

Still no closer to a answer

I'd say we we're closer to an answer.
Golden 🦆 and not one of 6 bowlers used definitely is a nudge!

Bizarre

Just looked at their Squad

Mahmood and Topley missed out + Rehan Ahmed and Chohan and Pepper

They have too many bowling options (3) in their Top 6

First draft
9xDGR round 1, 7 ready to go for round 2

No Matt Short. Hoping he has a quiet round one, then will hopefully go Maxwell to him round 2, have 34k there ready. So may need to make a little bit up somewhere

Managed to get a squad I like with no nuffys atm but still a work in progress IMG_5951.png

Just having a look at the draw... why are the Stars playing a home game in Canberra (against the Thunder)?

Pat Cummins is expected to miss the SL tour wonder if they will try another bowler late in the summer as replacement.
Was just thinking how radical they might go at Galle.

Out : Cummins , Hazlewood , Starc
In : Hardie/Webster , Kuhnemann , Murphy or Rocchiccioli , T Sangha or Swepson

Khawaja (?)
Maxwell
Labuschagne (?)
Smith
Head
Marsh
Hardie/Webster
Carey
Kuhnemann/Murphy/Rocchiccioli
Sangha/Swepson
Lyon

Been talking up Connolly as well.

Would love to see Neser play the Gabba and Adelaide Test and Boland Boxing Day but be surprised if they change anything.

EDIT : just checked Starc's record at Galle , 16 wkts @ 14.81 from 3 Tests including 10WM

Not sure if Morris has had another setback , thought he was due to play Shield this round.

Yeah understand that the G isn't available, but to gift a home game to another team?
Wish it was in Victoria somewhere at least. Like Marvel or GMHBA Stadium if they were available (assuming they aren't) as I normally like to go to as many Melbourne games as I can.

Just came across this team

Inglis / Doran

Short * , Maxwell * , Webster * , Sutherland * , Fraser-McGurk / $ 58,5 + $ 39,5

Curran * , Edwards * , J Richardson , Stoinis * , Zampa / $ 58,5 + $ 39,5

Harper

Bench would worry me but potentially one of the best onfield starting set-ups I have seen so far (personally would swap Edwards out for Abbott)

Probably would need to trade out Sutherland , Fraser-McGurk & Zampa in Round 2 for 3 x AS/PS (already have 3 in preparation) but wouldn't be able to get the Overton/Lynn/Hardie/Behrendorff price types

I was just having a play around, and anyone brave enough to not start Short OR Maxwell, should be able to come up with a starting team with really good depth!
It's a interesting jigsaw

Short and the bare bones bench (could be a bonus if both Bazley & Buckingham play the opening rounds , but can't see how they fit into the Strikers line-up , be nice to have clarity on Allen)

Strikers playing third game of Round 1 doesn't really help to see if one (or both) are named , maybe the Flex position allows a opportunity to take a gamble (bit of cash in reserve to say change Bazley to Thornton)

Or fade Short to start and get bench depth with a eye for Round 2 & 3.

Then is the Maxwell - > Short - > Maxwell trade route a waste of trades ?

Focus to much on our Round 1 teams and we might come up short in Round 2 & 3 for our preferred options though.

Round 3 could be tough cash and trade wise trying to afford/fit the likes of Bartlett/Duckett/Hosein/Neser/Walter etc etc plus trying to get Maxwell back.

Imagine most will need to trade Short out Round 3 to raise funds.

Going to be a fine balancing act to fit the pieces correctly

Once you work out the answer can you let us all know please 🙏 😀

Disclaimer : not starting Short at the moment

The makeup of that strikers bowling attack is going to be absolutely huge. I think to have a solid team and start short you need that to go your way.

It seems that the decision of short Vs no short comes down the bench.

It seems if you sacrifice the bench you don’t have to sacrifice quality double players. If guys like Buckingham and Bazley do play early and score well that’ll cover that. But if they don’t play it could be big problems early.

Everything I have juggled (so far) points that way and leaves you with less numbers for Round 3 and most likely Round 2

Ideally we know if Overton is going to be bowling or not before the BBL starts & Allen misses the WI v Bangladesh white ball series to perhaps give us an idea of their preferred structure

Nielsen keeps Round 1 instead of Pope if Paine is true to his word.

I know a lot of coaches deliberately play 3 donuts (Doran & Salzmann are popular + 1) so maybe the cheapie setup will work, especially now with the introduction of the Flex position

Looks like their is currently 16 players priced between $ 60-80k (not sure why Merlo hasn't been added) so their might be enough that start Round 1 to be viable bench options so we might not need the $ 59,500.00 and $ 39,500.00

AS - Doggett , Kelly
BH - Renshaw
HH - David , Hatzoglou , Jewell
MR - Wells
MS - McKenzie , Paris , Steketee
PS - Hobson , Turner
SS - Patterson
ST - Davies , Hatcher , J Sangha

Bold would be my guess (at this stage) who plays Round 1

Just keep juggling different combos now until everything is finalised

Still need to keep in mind what players we will actually trade out in Round 2 (I would probably be using 3 Renegades if I can hold Maxwell eg Seifert , Evans , Sutherland are the 3 highest priced Renegades and only equal $ 421,100.00 so they alone are not getting you Short + 2 other S/PS premiums)

Tye , Inglis & Jhye cost $ 411,400.00 so that would be gettable , so then would mean starting Short and possibly/probably 2 other AS/PS

Just need to keep an eye on Round 3 and 2 though when making a starting side
