So if the bowling side slows it down and only bowls say 15 overs in the allotted time do they lose 5 overs when they bat ?
Yeah didn't really explain that well at all, been a long day. That was the intent but rereading what I posted was completely different. Must be a simpler way to penalise teams for slow bowling rates / delaying things when batting.

Got to agree about delays with the music etc, keep it to between overs only and maybe have fines for the home team if the DJ delays play repeatedly.

I don't mind the deducting of runs against the batting side.

All subjective though so wouldn't have any consistency from game to game

The easiest way to ensure that teams maintain a reasonable over rate is a suspension for the offending captain (obviously adjusting for major delays they’re not responsible for - like the fire in Brisbane).

You don’t need gimmicky new rules that make it less like proper cricket - just enforce the existing ones properly.

Over rates is tough cause while it’s mostly on the fielding side, batsman also play a part I. Delaying things. Then add boundaries, reviews, wickets, stupid DJs.. the game just isn’t designed with speed in mind when you factor all that in.
If they really want to speed things up, limit fielding changes during an over, get better technology to make reviews faster, and have a genuine penalty for being too slow.
The fielding changes for slow overs don’t feel impactful enough in terms of being a detriment.

Sixers get a lot of praise for their set-up and rightly so.

Wonder if they change their thinking around their OS players and try and get them here for the entire tournament from now on.

Knowing they were going to be without Abbott , Bird , Murphy & Smith for the finals I find it very strange that they didn't find OS replacements for Hosein & Vince and instead relied on local players for the finals.

Curious to see if they get a pre-signing OS for BBL 15 , think the rules are they have to be here for the entire tournament from now on.

Not a fan of most of those rules. No justification for them except trying to be different to possibly speed up the game. If they want to do that, set a time limit and once time is up, it's innings over. If you haven't bowled the full 20 overs - too bad. Bowling team controls the pace of the game, if the batter tries to delay the game, take runs off.

I don't mind the designated hitter / fielder rule though, teams batting first often do this now anyway.

My suggestion is a little gimmicky, but bowling the first ten overs from one end and then the 2nd ten from the other might speed things up sufficiently. Having to change every over costs at least 30-40 minutes a match.

Don’t hate it. Could add some spice to the toss by letting the winner choose either to bat/bowl first and the losing captain chooses which end is first 10/second 10

I don’t find that particularly gimmicky - it doesn’t really change the way the match is played (off the top of my head), it’s more of an efficiency thing than a fundamental change. It’s probably the best specific suggestion I’ve heard for that reason!

My only worry is that it drastically affects tactics with regards to bowling to short side/long side. If the bowling side gets to choose the side they start it would obviously alleviate this, but it may negatively affect spinners which is a shame as they have played a great part in the BBL.

I wonder if we'll finally get some clear air after the Ashes next year?

After the Ashes is done, the next thing on the list is a white ball tour of Pakistan in February 2026. Might finally see some test players stick around for the finals.

You would certainly hope so.

Be amazing if the likes of Cummins , Hazlewood , Lyon & Starc actually played BBL.

Bit of trivia to end the season on.

There are six players remaining that have played at least one game in every BBL season.

Anyone want to take some guesses who they are?
