Only a couple more days until we need to make a decision whether to give the green light for this competition for not.

Now is the time to remove any doubts and register your interest as spots are limited...

I was always tossing up as to whether I would run this comp as a SCS exclusive comp or whether I would promote it to the participants of the other comps I run. I was a little reluctant given they are mostly work based participants, it does add a little to the administrative effort and it is obviously holiday season coming up. However given it doesn't look like sufficient numbers are coming forward for the SCS exclusive option I have now promoted through my other comps and I can report that I now have at least 29 more starters lifting the total to 45 and probably expect to get a few more.

Therefore I can confirm that the comp will definitely go ahead (rest easy @THCLT) and I will provide full details in the next day or two. This will include a couple of minor changes and some additions to what I explained earlier.

Finally if this makes the comp any less appealing to those SCS members who have joined up then feel free to jump out.

A quick update.

Entries
Entries now up to 51 with a week to go. I have promoted pretty broadly now so still could get a few more. I had around 60 for World Cup comp which worked pretty well.

Special Offer
To entice more SCS members to join (currently 16) I am willing to offer those that are tempted a one time try before you buy free option. I will give members the option of participating for the first round before paying up and if they decide it is not for them they can be removed from the comp. If they want to continue then they pay the entry and take the roller coaster to the finish. Anybody wishing to take up that option then post in this thread.

Rules
I am still simulating a few ideas and will post final rules in the next few days.

Where else can you be afforded a 'Special Offer' but at Supercoach Scores...Love the initiative Mark (y)

These are the final rules for the 2019/20 Big Bash Fantasy Sweep. Hopefully I haven't toppled over the complexity cliff. Note there are a few changes and additions from my post of a week or so ago.

Final Rules

Players
  • Each participant will be randomly drawn 3 players from each team (total of 6 in each game).
  • The draw will be based on batting positions. It will be actual batting order for those that bat and listed batting order thereafter.
  • One player will be from position 1 to 4 (likely to be a specialist batsman)
  • One player will be from position 5 to 8 (could be any type of player)
  • One player will be from position 9 to 11 (highly likely to be a specialist bowler)
  • No 2 participants will have the same combination of players in the same game.
  • Each position will be owned by the same number of participants +/- 1 given the number of participants will not likely be exactly divisible by 3 and 4.
  • Player draws will be conducted progressively through the tournament for blocks of games. It will probably be for each Supercoach round (which comprise 4 or 5 games) however that will come around very quickly so may adjust this as we go.
Captain
  • One of each participant’s 6 players in each game will be randomly drawn to serve as captain and score double points for that game. There will be no Vice Captain.
  • Note that this is different than I originally posted because the original idea of having 1 captain (x2) and 1 vice-captain (x1.5) per round will render the progressive rankings meaningless because there will be a mix of C & VCs that will have played after each game. Scores will only be comparable after the completion of each round and I didn’t like that.
  • Note that there are 22 players in each game and we will likely have around 60 participants so each player will only act as captain for 2 to 3 participants (maybe 4) so the captain will serve as a relative POD for everybody.
Points
  • All players will score points for their performance with the bat, with the ball and in the field.
  • Points earned in abandoned and rain affected games will count as normal.
  • Points awarded will be as per Big Bash Supercoach. Note that I would probably like to do some things a little differently in this regard however I decided I will use Supercoach points to avoid confusion.
Competitions
  • There will be 2 completely separate competitions running using the same player draw and points scored. This is a concept that people that have participated in my Soccer World Cup comp and my AFL comp will be familiar with. Separate prizes will be awarded for each competition.
  • Competition 1 (Points comp) will be a simple highest aggregate score across the BBL wins. Note this will include the 5 finals matches.
  • Competition 2 (Ladder comp) will be a mirror of how the Big Bash competition itself actually works. The objective will be to make the finals and then progress through the finals and ultimately win the grand final. The finals system will also mirror that used in the Big Bash.
  • The easiest way to explain this is by way of example. For the sake of this example lets assume we have 80 participants.
  • The top 50 will make the finals and the bottom 30 will be eliminated.
  • Elimination final will be between positions 31 to 50 (equivalent of 4th and 5th) with the top 10 advancing to the semi final.
  • Qualifying final will be between positions 1 to 20 (equivalent of 1st and 2nd) with the top 10 advancing to the grand final.
  • Semi final will be between the 10 winners of the elimination final and positions 21 to 30(equivalent of 3rd) with the top 10 advancing to the preliminary final.
  • Preliminary final will be between the 10 losers of the qualifying finals and the 10 winners of the semi final.
  • Grand final will be between the 10 winners of the qualifying final and the 10 winners of the preliminary final. The highest scorer in the grand final will win this comp.
  • The actual numbers to make finals will depend on the ultimate number of participants however essentially each rung on the ladder represents 12.5% of the field. In a finals game half the field will be deemed the winners and half will be deemed the losers.
  • I will advise exactly what all the relevant numbers for all finals once total entries are known.
Prizes
  • Money back ($10) to last position with remainder to be divided as follows. Note current entries are 58 so indicative prizes in brackets.
  • Points Comp; First 25% ($142); Second 15% ($85); Third 10% ($57)
  • Ladder Comp; First 25% ($142); Second 15% ($85); Third 10% ($57)
  • Note that I have not included an intermediate comp (usually round based) basically because there are too many rounds and not a big enough prize pool to make those prizes worthwhile. I am hopeful that the ladder comp will keep people engaged because everybody should remain a chance to make the finals until near the end.
Payment & Other Details
  • $10 entry
  • BSB 733128
  • Account Number 545278
  • Please identify yourself in the description
  • PM me if further details required
  • Any scenario not contemplated in the rules will be dealt with by the competition administrator.
Hopefully that covers it all however happy to take any questions or address any issues I may have overlooked. I will conduct the first player draw on Monday night before the first game on Tuesday.

Good luck all and have fun.

thanks for organising, and the hours that goes into doing this. I'm always the one to do the organising and spreadsheeting with my mates for drafts or other fantasy comps, so it's refreshing to enjoy somebody else hard work for a change, and hopefully learn a thing or two..

Nice to know I am not the only crazy one out there. A word of warning though, just be careful or you will find yourself running a comp where you put in all the effort and the participants have the massive burden of just collecting the prizemoney.......twice.
