Anyone know the reason Australia chose to bowl?

Would have thought they bat to ensure 50 overs and the likes of Clarke, Falkner etc get some time in the middle.

The weather.... expecting rain so they would rather bowl and get them out early than bat, score 300 plus and game get washed out before Scotland face enough overs to be considered a match.

Although Faulkner could do with a bit of a bat you also have to take in account Cummings, Johnson, Watson and even Faulkner himself could do with this bowling practice.

Ahh ok that makes sense. Had only turned it to see the Scotts batting. Didn't even realise game was in Hobart until now.

Cummings looked rusty.
Get him and Johnson on to bowl ten overs each.
Put the cue back in rack with Starc. He does no need another bowl.

Geez, watching cricket, Brett Lee is right on commentary. Pat Cummins needs to work on how he has his feet land on his approach. Really is a worry he will do some serious damage to his ankles some day. As I type he has his second wicket but first attempted ball of over he did not land his feet and ends up on the ground and it is a worry he will hurt himself seriously.

7 for 79 atm. I wonder if they will change the Aussie batting order. I would let Clarke open, simply needs some time in the middle.

Did not realize this but if this game was washed out today Australia would not finish second in our group despite having 8 match points and better net run rate than Sri Lanka. As Sri Lanka played all full games and won more due to two possible washouts for Australia it would mean Sri Lanka finished second based on more wins, if on same match points and net run rate would not decide the order in that case.

In anycase after rain Starc knocked off the last two wickets in quick time.
That is sixth nation he has taken 4 wickets or more in an innings against.
Strike rate in tournament about a wicket every 15 balls.
Astonishing!!!

Confirmed Clarke reads SCS! ;)

Yeah the more wins rule is odd Oz. Disadvantages a side with washouts. Should be the normal net run rate.

lol..
Doubt it. He is a New South Welshman and probably clueless about aussie rules footy.
Was on the cards he would open. Was wondering whom would make way in opening spot and it is Warner.
Faulkner and Watson probably next in should any wickets fall getting this total.
Doubt Smith, Warner or Maxwell will get a bat.

If Finch was dropped and Clarke opened with Warner to allow Bailey to come into team to bat at number 4 after Smith I think we actually would be even stronger team.

Good hit out for Clarke.
47 runs and caught on the fence trying to finish this off before rain came.
Damn, as I type covers on straight away.

Gayle not playing for Windies.
Anyone know why?

They just about got the UAE total of 176 to chase done so they will qualify and will finish 4th in their pool which leaves the winner of Ireland v Pakistan to end up third and the loser fifth. The winner meets Australia in quarter final in Adelaide. The loser is out of the World Cup.
Go Ireland!!!! lol

This is going to be interesting.
Would not get super confident in Pakistan batting line up.
Ireland are 3 for 122 in 27th over so does not seem like they will have some small total to chase.
Nervous hours when Pakis going into bat for their nation.
I would not trust Pakistan as certain to chase a total like 280 with a lot of confidence, even against Ireland bowling attack. They should be able to get it but with Paki's you just never can be confident they will do it.
