Quarter Finals about to start.

of the 8 teams in it a few meet in preliminary stages.
New Zealand narrowly beat Australia in cracker of game where bowlers dominated.
India accounted for South Africa at the MCG early on.
Australia beat Sri Lanka in high scoring affair at SCG.
India beat Pakistan in Adelaide.
New Zealand beat Sri Lanka over the Tasman.
West Indies beat Pakistan over the Tasman.
Australia v Bangladesh game washed out at Gabba.
Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh at the G.
South Africa batting murdered West Indies at SCG.
India beat West Indies in very strange tactical end to game in Perth.
Pakistan beat South Africa in Auckland.
New Zealand beat Bangladesh over the Tasman.

Which means of the games these 8 nations have played against each other.
New Zealand won 3 games and lost none.
India won 3 and lost none.
Australia won 1, lost 1 and a washout.
Sri Lanka won 1 and lost 2
Pakistan won 1 and lost 2
South Africa won 1 and lost 2
West Indies won 1 and lost 2
Bangladesh had a washout and 2 losses.

I count it as being 10 games plus England v Bangladesh to decide 8th in the real stuff so far.
The other 31 games of World Cup so far have meant we waited many many weeks to get to this real World Cup.
Now you got to win 3 knockout games over the next 12 days.
It gets real now!!!
Australia and Kiwis the equal favourites for mine but South Africa and India will still be dreaming of making it to the final and winning an away World Cup. Sri Lanka will dream a little too but bowling line-up relies too much on Malinga to probably win 3 knockout games.
kakarot only person in poll knocked out so far :)

My gosh Sri Lanka batting disaster. I was looking forward to watching some cricket tonight but it looks like it won't be for too long.

I'm just nervous that I won't get any of my Uni assignments done today because the cricket is on, and my weekend is out as I'm playing in a cricket GF.

Any game in which Australia has to bat I am nervous (so every cricket game we play....). The pressure Finch, Warner and Watson continuously put on our middle order is what scares me.

Pumped for a big day of sport though. Cricket, duck out to watch Melbourne, then more cricket.

Always *some* chance especially with Finch in eleven rather than Bailey but to be honest if Finch fails, Warner or Clarke or Smith probably have a big innings. And if they all fail chances are someone like Maxwell or even Watto step up. In the rare event they all fail you even got Haddin, Faulkner and Mitch Johnson. At number 10 in order you even got a guy that got one of the quickest Test half centuries in history. At number 11 Cummings helped win a Test match in South Africa with the bat in a thriller so for mine there is a lot of weapons there and some bound to fail based on probability but also more than likely a few really fire and that means curtains for Pakistan.
In the unlikely event they all fail with the bat, well you always got the New Zealand game scenario of a bowling line-up capable of knocking over any batting order in a hurry. We only lost that game by one wicket even after disaster batting effort. For mine I sense Warner or Clarke in particular looked in good touch last game and expect a big innings from one of them at very least. Paki's at some stage will probably get two or three wickets in a hurry but that is about all I am expecting.

I agree wholeheartedly re Finch. He should only be on about 30 runs for the entire tournament so far (dropped on 0 or 1 against England). I have no idea why his spot in the side is completely unquestioned. As I said in my comment before, its just too risky to have him, Warner and Watson as our top 3. Now that Watson has hopefully moved down the order it makes it a bit better but its still just a fragile batting line up which is continuously saved by, like you said, at least one player making runs.

Watson should open with Warner and Bailey should be in the side. The way Bailey has just been discarded is just astounding.

Ha, you lot complaining about the pressure of having Davey Warner in your side. Imagine having Alistair Cook rack up 12 of 63 deliveries.

Strangely enough I'll be cheering on the Aussies tonight. Funny things happen when you live in this beautiful country.

Not sure anyone would complain about Davey Warner batting in the side...lol

I think some of us just do not feel Finch batting with Warner maximises our chances of a good solid start. Finch is a goer and because Warner is too it is rare they will both come off at same time. Having said that, I'm not against Finch as such just overall for a stronger side always felt Bailey in eleven and someone else opening with Warner makes as an even stronger team. The reality is it probably won't matter much. As in the game versus England Finch is capable of doing some damage. In one of the very rare T20's internationals I ever watched on tv I remember seeing Finch hit 16 sixes. I'd be more than happy to see it again :) My take on him is he tends to get too many chances early on getting caught and he also gets in two minds of trying to playing a different style because he is batting with another goer. That is the issue for mine. Both batting together there is this tendency of one of them to feel the need to reign themselves in and I think both are just better playing their natural game. I cannot ever recall watching them both fire at exactly same time. Our best opening partners I ever seen was Mark Waugh and Gilchrist. They both complimented each others style. I think they tend to be the best opening partnerships for one dayers. Thankfully we got strong bats at 3 and 4 now so a loss of early wicket tends not to harm our particular side.

Edit: late change Hazelwood in the eleven at expense of Cummins.
Slightly concerning from my point of view but hopefully Hazelwood justifies being selected and can be a strike bowler too,

BIG BIG wicket.
Clarkey brought Maxwell on and Misbah falls to a catch in the deep striking to whack a six.
Captain making the right calls. Good stuff.
They were 2 for 97 in 23 rd over before that so setting up a possible nice base if the partnership went on a lot longer.
Now Pakistan have to re-stabilise and lost their best bat.
