I think we have 4/5 of them out of form , only Warner & Labuschagne stood up in the 1st Innings so see who stands up in this one.

Smith obviously will come back in.

Can't really bring Bancroft back , so that leaves Mitch Marsh.

Fortunately England have their own batting issues.
I must see it differently.. Head and Wade have looked ok.. oh Harris no...

Bit outside the box, but Paine could be the other option to open the batting. As a right hander, he might nullify the threat that Archer and Broad pose with their inswing. Won't happen, but I'd be seriously considering it if a change is needed as Paine has experience opening (albeit a long time ago now). Would solve the problem of shifting the other batsmen around out of position too.

EDIT: Harris out to a pretty ordinary shot vs Leach (did turn a bit). Opens the door a touch for England.

Don't mind that idea actually , thought he could have been a number 3 during the home summer.

so:-

Warner
Paine
Khawaja
Smith
Head
Labuschagne
Wade ???

My point exactly, why is warner safe
probably has credits in the bank , has a very ordinary record in England though even prior to this series , Ave mid 30's from memory

doubt they will drop him for Bancroft , but maybe needs to go down the order

I think it’s fair to say this isn’t exactly an “all time great” Australian attack, so that’s a pretty “all time terrible” score from England.

Well played straya.

67- England's total in the first innings at Headingley, is their lowest total in the Ashes since the 52 at The Oval in 1948. Overall, this is their eighth lowest total in Ashes and six of the lower totals were all over 100 years earlier.

4- Number of times England have been all out for less than 100 in Tests since 2018. No other team has suffered this more than once. They got all out for 58 at Auckland in March last year and then 77 in Bridgetown, 85 against Ireland at Lord's and 67 in this Test. In 37 innings they have got out for less than 100 four times, which is once in about nine innings.

12- The highest score in England's innings, by Joe Denly, who was the only one to enter double-figures. This is the lowest highest score in an England Test innings when all the 11 batsmen batted. The previous lowest was 15 runs against Australia at SCG in 1901-02 and against South Africa at Lord's in 1998.

11- Number of times England have got all out for less than 200 since 2018, which is also the most among all teams. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have had nine such batting displays. In this period, England have been getting all for less than 200 on an average of about three innings. Between 2016 and 2017, they were getting sub-200 scores once every 7.5 innings.

1- Number of smaller totals in Tests at Headingley than England's 67 in this match. West Indies were all out for 61 in 2000, which is the lowest total at the venue. For England, the previous lowest total was 76 against South Africa way back in 1907.

You’d have to think Pope will get a game should this test be lost. They need to look at their future and blood some of their young batsmen to see if they are up for it.
Was he on standby for Roy ?

amazing that last night they were saying Hameed is losing his county contract.

Crawley and Sibley (?) would have to come in , surely

Yeah he was on standby for Roy after he got a double ton either in his last county match or the one before. Very good player and was outstanding in his stint in Sydney grade cricket the season before he made his test debut. Very confident in saying he’s got a big future in English cricket.
