Really hoping Pucovski makes another reasonable score today and the selectors go "rightio son we will give you the 5 home tests to see what you can do"

Averages 40 in Australia though ? , isn't the Home average all that is saving Warner ?

Be interesting what 6 they come up with.
Would be great to see Pucovski given an extended run, assuming they think he is mentally ready for it.

Warner is obviously in horrendous form right now, but it’s really only one bad series. Before this year he’s never averaged below 39 in a calendar year, and I reckon we’d lock and load on anyone who could manage that going forward. His career average is 45 and from memory that puts him in the top 20-25 all time amongst proper openers, personally I’d be assuming he will come good and focused on building around he and Smith for a while yet. If he doesn’t then we’ve got a few issues ?

Pucovski out for 2  The calls for Marsh are growing stronger and stronger.

Another site I was reading says Marsh has averaged 51.25 in 13 Innings in Australia with 2 x 100's and 3 x 100's.

I am not sure on Pucovski's mental state of things, articles I have read says he has things to manage and control it, but unless you are in his inner circle who would know.

Fortunately Warner has 2 more Shield games to get some confidence back, oh no , that's right CA has scheduled 6 meaningless T20I before the Tests.

Sure will be a interesting debate if Warner fails against Pakistan and then see what the selectors then do , Harris (and Bancroft) both look sub-standard at this level and would be lucky to play for Zimbabwe.

Think we missed a trick by not opening with Khawaja at The Oval, but neither he, Burns & Renshaw have started the season well.

Wonder if Maddinso gets a chance as a opener ?

Stoinis has 3 x 50's this season but I think if they pick him I think I will cry, maybe Handscomb gets another look in.

Might need a 1000 run summer from Smudge.

Having been following Pakistan too much lately but think a lot of people are underestimating the Black Caps.

Third round of the Shield starts on the 31st October, come on batsmen make some runs.

That’s a decent home record for Marsh if true, although my preference is to (1) have a settled side for home and away series (split by format, rather than opponent/venue, ideally) and (2) use less important series/those we are favored to win to find out who is capable of filling a spot long term, if that’s in doubt. Personally I think we are well past playing S Marsh unless it’s a critical series and we think he’s clearly in our top six (which I’d be skeptical of in any case).

We do need some of these younger guys to put up consistent runs though. Queensland has four Aussie hopefuls in their top order and all of them were outscored by a #5 and 6 I hadn’t heard of.

Hemphrey is the English guy (wonder if he is qualified for us) , think Street was on debut (came in for Heazlett) think he is the one who made a triple in the second XI match recently.

it's funny when people talk about all these young bastmen coming through the ranks Bryant, Doran , Edwards, harvey, Sangha etc etc and how we are in a good state , none of them are even playing Shield cricket.

I don't mind look ahead to the future either but sometimes you need to pick a team just for the now, places are up for grabs, so if people don't make their case and Marsh keeps scoring runs, hard not to see him picked.

Think they will go :

Warner
Harris
Labuschange
Smith
Wade
???

Street

Young left-hander a chance of making his first-class debut after he posted a record-breaking score of 345 in second XI cricket

And yep I had never heard of him either before then

That’s a pretty good list in my view. Burns is the one I’d most like to see added (and arguably more deserving than some of those listed), and I don’t mind persisting with Head if they think Burns can’t fit in that lineup. Harris needs to hit his straps soon (not just one century either) but has probably earned a decent shot at it.

Nothing from Renegades, I can only find this article ..
very interesting , wonder if it just media speculation or there is some truth to it.

normally about 12-20 of the Windies "bats for hire" play in the BPL , not too many contracts left though , 2 @ the Scorchers , Hurricanes will need to replace Archer as well.

wonder if DJ Bravo comes back to the Stars to replace Steyn ?

They have a series in India then play Ireland early January.

Could do a lot worse. No left field selection who is no chance, unlike a lot of Warney’s sides.
