CricInfo have a article that the ECB and Scotland are already in talks over Team GB

ECB and Cricket Scotland in talks over LA28 Team GB

As Great Britain is represented in the Olympics, Scotland and England players could join forces in Los Angeles

he ECB and Cricket Scotland have opened talks about plans to field men's and women's Team GB cricket teams at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Cricket will return to the Olympics for the first time since 1900 after its inclusion was ratified late last year. Details are yet to be confirmed but the ICC has proposed six-team T20 tournaments for both the women's and men's competitions, which are both expected to last around a week and will likely be played consecutively rather than simultaneously.

Qualification details are also yet to be confirmed but the ICC's T20I rankings will be used in some capacity. Most countries will compete in their usual guise but if England qualify then they will play as Great Britain, in line with the rest of the Olympics. It opens up the possibility of some Scottish players competing, such as Brandon McMullen or Sarah and Kathryn Bryce.

The ECB and Cricket Scotland have held preliminary discussions about working together on proposed Team GB cricket teams. Cricket Scotland are pushing for active involvement in their running and are keen to contribute players and staff, but the ECB will be the teams' nominated governing body.

"With the Los Angeles Olympics four years away, it's very early stages, but we're talking to Team GB and Cricket Scotland about the next steps we need to take," an ECB spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo.

"Once again Great Britain's Olympians have captured the national imagination with their exploits in Paris this year, and we look forward to working together to compete when cricket returns to the Olympic stage in 2028.

"Along with England and Wales hosting Women's and Men's [T20] World Cups in 2026 and 2030, it's another great opportunity to grow the game and inspire more people to develop a love for cricket."

Andy Anson, the chief executive of the British Olympic Association, said on Monday: "We've got good experience in golf, in rugby and in women's football, of how the Four Nations [England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland] can come together and nominate one country to be the main governing body and work with the other countries. So I think cricket will be the same."

Anson, who is also Lancashire's chairman, added: "The ECB will be at the centre of that. They'll have to work with Cricket Scotland to make sure that happens properly. We will help them sign agreements to come together and create a single national governing body, as we have done in those other sports. We are working very closely with the ECB to make them become the fully fledged National Olympic Committee member."

Team GB is officially the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team, and athletes from Northern Ireland can choose to compete for either Team GB or Ireland. But since cricket is organised on an all-Ireland basis, leading Northern Irish cricketers such as Mark Adair and Paul Stirling are highly unlikely to nominate themselves for Team GB.

The venue for the cricket events at the 2028 Olympics is yet to be confirmed. Los Angeles Knight Riders and Major League Cricket have plans to build a stadium in Great Park in Irvine, while the Oakland Coliseum has also been mooted as an option.

West Indies' potential involvement also raises some complications, though there is recent precedent from the 2022 Commonwealth Games. West Indies' T20I ranking ensured they qualified for the women's cricket event, and they were represented by Barbados as the winners of the most recent edition of the Women's T20 Blaze.

Involvement in the Olympics - which will take place in the second half of July - will add to an incredibly busy 2028 summer for England's men, which is already due to feature six Tests and white-ball tours from Australia and India.

T20 format , believe it is going to be 6 or 8 teams participating.

Whether they have qualification or based on rankings.

Interesting what they do with England (and Scotland) and the West Indies

Not sure if USA will get a automatic spot as host.

India probably get a automatic spot 😉
If it's like any other Olympic sport it'll be US (as host) and five qualifying teams. Full round robin, semis and final - 7 games in the 16 days, possibly starting early like the soccer does.

Believe it's already been reported that they'll use the rankings at a certain point in time, although I don't know what that time is.

Can't see GBR being ranked top 6 at that stage. England maybe, Scotland less likely. Maybe we need to merge with the Kiwis to give us a better chance of qualifying. ;)

Edit: Thought we competed with NZ as a combined team the last time cricket was held when posting this, but it was only in 1908 and 1912. My comment doesn't work quite as well now.

Devon and Somerset Wanderers (representing Great Britain) defeated French Athletic Union Club (France) in a 2 day game.

The French team included 10 British nationals , 2 who were born in France + 2 Frenchmen.

Belgium and Netherlands nominated for the event but withdrew.

Australia had 2 competitors at the games , swimmer Fred Lane (won 2 gold medals) & athlete Stan Rowley (won 3 bronze medals)

Rowley also was a member of the Great Britain 5 man team race that won the Gold Medal as they only had 4 members 😲

Does anyone know why they are only planning for six teams to compete?

It seems odd to me - especially if the expectation is that the host country takes up one of those spots.

I would have thought it would be better to wait until Brisbane and do it “properly”.

Stokes confirmed out for the series.

No additions to the Squad so it will either be Cox , Potts or Stone replacing him in the XI.

Lawrence to replace Crawley.

When they last had baseball and softball I think it was the same. Might be to do with having enough venues.

Thanks - it seems quite odd. I think of the Olympics as being an inclusive event … if they can’t accommodate the number of countries who want to participate and can do so at a suitable standard, maybe it just means it shouldn’t be an Olympic sport?

I would have thought there would be multiple suburban grounds that could do the job, the same as when they rush through the domestic one day comp every year!

Looks like they have WTC series against

Sri Lanka (A) 2 Tests in Sep/Oct
India (A) 3 Tests in Oct/Nov
England 3 Tests in Nov/Dec

Then he can go and play T20 in the BBL/SA20/ILT20
while they have home white ball series vs Sri Lanka & Pakistan.

Have a Tri Nation series in Pakistan before the Champions Trophy.

No different to what Boult has been doing , fingers crossed he (Williamson) keeps playing Test cricket.

Be curious to see if he gets a MLC contract.
Good to see Williamson (and Conway) included in the Black Caps Squad for the Afghanistan Test & Sri Lanka Tests.

Pakistan home white ball series has been cancelled/postponed so they only will miss the SL white ball series while playing in the SA20.
