Was having a look at who I'd probably start with in defence and noticed that Brisbane face Hawks and Cats in the first two rounds and The dockers and the cats in the last two.. Meaning Hanley could drop off after the first couple of rounds.
Funnily enough I was just thinking about him. Heading into his 4th full season and seems to be heading in the right direction average wise. Has that big point potential to even out his quieter games.

2011 - 22 games @ 83
2012 - 22 games @ 91
2013 - 20 games @ 96

But after looking at these numbers, maybe he can be an upgrade target.

(most recent to oldest 2011-2013)
vs Hawks 86, 41, 82 @ 70
vs Cats 79, 42, 86, 107 @ 79
vs Dockers 91, 56, 93, 87 @ 82

I think the article also confirmed Goddard's move into the midfield; McVeigh/Mitchell a worthy replacement imo.

McVeigh I'm still considering......I might just go for Gibbs instead...been picking him every single year so why not keep that tradition.
McVeigh I'm considering. Mitchell is a no for me because he is 31 and his average dropped by 6.5 points last year, which worries me a bit when there are players who IMO are less risk out there to pick.

To play the devil's advocate here, alot of people said the same thing about Bartel this year and it cost a lot of teams. Slightly different circumstances but the numbers did not suggest the 8 point jump in average he had. I'll be starting Sammy pretty much for this reason as unrelated as it may seem..lol but it's more as a preventative selection just in case he does happen to get back to his scoring best.

And while we're on Bartel, is he any chance of being listed as a back next year? Having just done some quick research, looks like it's every possibility!

Just remember the players coming back into hawks lineup aka schoenmakers and suckling. That'll most likely means mitchell will be playing in the guts and less time as a halfback. At least this is my thought process.

Bartel was 29 (2 years younger) and had put injury worries behind him. Mitchell's drop is more to do with him getting on IMO, hence why I'll be avoiding him. That said I can understand why people would (and many will) start him.

Maybe Mitchell due to the fact that he's 31 going on 32 next year and Nk has some valid points there regarding his diminishing output

Seeing as he only played down back this year I would be shocked if he doesn't. That said I still don't know how he was made MID/FWD last year (should have been either FWD/BACK or MID/BACK), so VS may not make him a back next year.

I'm not sure I follow your logic. If Suckling coming back forces Mitchell into the Midfield, that forces someone out of the Midfield that is currently there. So basically, that equals Suckling taking the place of one of the Haw Mids in the starting line up (not the Midfield). Which Midfield player do you think Hawthorn will drop to slot Suckling in, and Mitchell up?

Suckling has one of the most damaging skills in the game and at full fitness is in hawks best 22. With a fully fit team hawks have headaches in the backline with Suckling and Schoenmakers returning but there is a spot from Guerra. Personally I believe the hawks need Schoenmakers at full back with Lake and Gibson back pockets. Birchell and Suckling running off the halfback and Stratton had CHB. As for the players that may or may not be dropped, I wouldn't have a clue.

I don't think that Mitchell will be forced back to midfield as he is a genuine midfielder. Something for Clarkson and his assistants to work out what's the best balance in team to accomodate returning defenders.
But it is very likely that Mitchell will play more in midfield this year.

Yeah one thing for sure is he will be awfully popular. Believe it or not he actually spent more time on the ground last year so i think we can put the drop in sc down to a combination of change of role and aging.

Stat - 2013 ave - 2012 ave
Contested Possessions - 9.7 - 12.5
Uncontested Possessions - 18.3 - 14.9
Clearances - 4.4 - 6.4
Rebound 50 - 2.8 - 1.7
TOG% - 90.5% - 88.4%

Contested possession and clearance being the big one for his SC potential...or lack thereof. Does make for interesting analysis though, I definitely feel less lock-throw-away-the-key now, and it's more a 'good chance' hah!

What are people's thoughts of Andrew walker? He could be a back/forward option and would fit into the same category as mcveigh/Mitchell/bartel price zone

The question for me in 2014 is whether to start with Heater or not.
Has always been a roller coaster ride with this guy but now that he has changed clubs, I wonder what the impact would be on his scoring.
Will be interesting
