Harley Bennell anyone?
I jumped off the Harley when he started missing training but I read something the other day that suggested Freo have purposely kept him in the rehab group to strengthen his calf. Bit like Hawthorn with Cyril last year doing his own program. I get the feeling Freo will be slow starters and at $550k I don't think he is a must have from round 1 but I am watching him closely.

Interesting theory there. I still don't think i'll start him but if managing his training load was a deliberate ploy to help him play out the season, I'm more open to trading him in.

Greene, Franklin or Harvey
Greene if he looks to be on ball for at least half his match time in NAB 3 > Franklin (the only thing that has him out of my side atm is his popularity, ownership is too high for my liking) > Boomer

I like all 3 though at F4.

So do I Kakarot, Greene gets the ball, mid written all over him, young and hungry, can score big. A risk I would like to take.

BOOMER anyone? Yes or no and reasons why?
POD choice, I reckon. Just don't think he will average enough to be a top 10 forward and I think managed game-time is a real possibility. Still a valuable commodity at NM so they will want him fit and firing for the pointy end of the season so while he may still play 20+ games, wouldn't be surprised if his TOG dropped off a bit. Had 570 disposals last year which I think was the second highest tally in his career but he only averaged 90 and tbh, don't see him averaging much more than that this year with Wells back in the guts unless he can kick more goals.

Locked in my team mate. Smooth start to the season for us, will play every game to break all time record, absolute gun that has shown no signs of slowing and slightly under priced due to subbed games last season

I'm with you there, can find the pill and is a strong 2-way runner. Saw him clothesline a bloke on the weekend too haha. Is a risk, but I'm on board if he looks to be midfield in NAB3.

I like Buddy but I want a little more certainty in my teams scoring for the early part of the season. If he goes bang early, I'm happy to wear that mistake (not really, I'll be crying on the inside)

This is encouraging. Even with the Suns gun mids returning, I still think he will spend a lot of time in the midfield.

Is he a better pick than Greene though? I wish I knew the answer.

Crap, now the decision is a degree more difficult. See what transpires in the the last NAB round I guess. Most teams should be close to full strength.

does'nt greene's dt>sc ratio put you off?

admittedly hall is a bit dt>sc but he's run last year was sc>dt which is a good sign

For some reason I think they post this sort of stuff to set a trap for the many that actually pay attention to these sort of stats. If he's in the doesn't mean he will get the ball though. I'll check out his stats through nab and re consider him. But be careful they post this and everyone jumps on Alah harryO last year lol

Only one number has interested me so far and that 16 tackles in game 2. That's having a crack. 77% tog so you wouldn't think that could improve much and his disposal has been shocking. If he fixed up that he would pump out 120 every week but needs to get hands on it more AV roughly 16 possies a game over nab

I currently have Hall in my team in F4. I put him in as soon as I heard Swallow was out until mid-way and JOM has a setback.

Further reasons to lock in Wells. No plans to rest him.

Brad Scott says Daniel Wells is free of injury and could play every game in 2016.

The star midfielder was restricted to just 12 games in the past two seasons with various injuries limiting his output. Now he’s out of rehab with no further pain or injury management required.

"Our intention is for him to play NAB 3 and then be ready for round one," Scott told The Age’s Sam McClure.

"He's over the achilles soreness that plagued him through last year, and the year before it was his foot, so two completely different injuries that [haven't] been an issue for him this pre-season," Scott said.

"We've just got to make sure we keep him that way."

Having Wells will be a bonus for the Roos, but Scott won’t be placing too much pressure on him.

"I think a lot of the comparisons between Wellsy and other plays are a little bit unfair, because Wellsy is a unique player," he said.

"We're not a team that has - with all due respect to our playing list - I don't think too many are going to feature in the top 10 players in the competition.

"For us to be a really good team, we're going to need a good even contribution from the 22 who play each week, but more than that we need 35 players who can contribute across the season.

"We don't need Wellsy to be the difference, we just need him to be part of the process."

Probably not worth the risk but..

Riewoldt happy for a mix between forward and midfield

ST KILDA captain Nick Riewoldt expects to stay mainly in attack, despite trying to reinvent himself this season.

One of the best key forwards of his generation has trained mainly with the Saints' midfield group since returning after Christmas from an extended break.

The Saints legend said he has not thought about how much time he will play up forward, compared to time in the Saints' midfield rotation.

"That's really for the coaches to decide, what's best for team balance," Riewoldt said.

"A mix would be good.

"I would still think it would be the majority forward, with some time in the midfield, but that remains to be seen."

Riewoldt said he has shed 3kg - coach Alan Richardson thinks it is more like five - as the 33-year-old aims to be more versatile.

"I guess when you pass 30, you need to try and do everything possible just to keep reinventing yourself and stay relevant in the game," he said.

"With my knee issues over the years, making sure I keep the weight off has been a pretty high priority."

Despite his dodgy knees, Riewoldt is renowned for his hard running and he has spent time in the middle before.

But his training this pre-season has had a more deliberate focus on midfield work.

"It's been a great learning experience, spending most of the pre-season with the midfield group," he said.

"You see all the great teams have players who are capable of playing multiple positions and we've been no different, trying to go down that path."

Riewoldt also notes that at 193cm, he is no longer especially tall for a midfielder.

Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe, for example, is 190cm and young Carlton star Patrick Cripps stands at 193cm.

"So I will probably just be another one of the dime-a-dozen midfielders," Riewoldt said.

Another obvious imperative is to let Josh Bruce and Paddy McCartin develop as the Saints' new key forward combination.

After the death of his younger sister Maddie last year, Riewoldt was granted an extended off-season break.

He is due to play his 300th game in round two against the Western Bulldogs and the game will be a fundraiser for the Maddie's Vision charity.

Riewoldt missed the trip to Mackay last weekend because of illness, but should have his first game of the pre-season this Sunday against Melbourne.

The skipper said the Saints were in good shape, despite heavy rain forcing the cancellation of the Mackay game against Brisbane.

"The boys got in a really good session on Sunday," he said.

"They did close to 12km of running on a really waterlogged surface, which was really taxing.

"So our preparation hasn't been compromised."
