So what happens if your captain is your 19th best scoring player during the byes??
Do you automatically get your VC or is the Captain score automatically counted in the best 18?
...and what if your Captain and your VC aren't in the best 18 scores??
I hope this doesn't happen to anyone but if both C and VC copped injuries I guess it is possible

From my understanding if your captain is not in best 18 you get his double score, outside the scoring range of best 18 for round. In other words it is not included if it happens to your SC team score for round. Your other 18 best players score is counted. None of them are doubled obviously.

Just to further clarify - they double the score first and then work out the top 18 scores. So if you have 19 players and the captain scores the lowest:
If your 18th man scores 30 and your captain 14, your captain is doubled to 28 which is the 19th score so not counted.
But
If your 18th man scores 30 and your captain 17, your captain is doubled to 34, so the 34 is counted and the 30 scrubbed.
If your 18th man scores 30 and your captain 14, your captain is doubled to 28 which is the 19th score so not counted.

This was how it worked for 2014, not sure if it has changed. It will give you a rough idea anyway:
6 or 7 games: 10% off if average over 60
4 or 5 games: 20% off if average over 60
3 games: 30% off if average over 60, 20% off if average from 50-60, 10% off if average 40-50
2 games: 30% off if average over 60, 20% off if average from 50-60, 15% off if average 40-50
1 game: 30% off if average over 60, 20% off if average over 35
0 games: 30% off last season average
'Relevant' players such as Leuenberger and Kreuzer seemed to have discount restrictions placed on them by Virtual Sports, no doubt by their consideration for the 'greater good' of the game/so not absolutely everyone had them.
