A question about best 18 scoring... Do players marked with the (E) still count towards the best 18 even if all of the players on field in that position play?
I don't think they do. It will be the same as a normal round, in that you have 6 players in that position playing so the emergency isn't needed.

Explosive report claims Hawthorn cheated salary cap during golden era

Hawthorn great Don Scott has made a remarkable claim about how his former club systematically cheated the salary cap during their golden era.

Hawthorn won four flags between 1986 and 1991 with Scott’s claims revealing secret bank accounts were used in Tasmania in order to help pay for some of the competition’s biggest names.

“Hawthorn were breaching the salary cap,” Scott said on the No Merger podcast, which was forst revealed by the Herald Sun.

“The only reason Hawthorn held all those star players and had success was that they were paying under the cap. They had a bank account down in Tasmania and they were paying the players that way.

“They were contravening the salary cap and that is why those players stayed at Hawthorn because of the money they were receiving.

“So consequently there has got to be a day of reckoning and that came for Hawthorn.

“They were cash strapped.”

Scott’s comments are set to expand on a soon to be released podcast on the club’s failed merger with Melbourne.

Hawthorn had some of the biggest players in the competition throughout their golden era, including Jason Dunstall, Dermott Brereton, Michael Tuck and Robert DiPierdomenico.

But Scott believed some wouldn’t have any idea of the payment structure, given they were just paid the money without knowing where it came from.

“They were paying wives, they were paying girlfriends. They were doing a lot of things back then,” Scott said.

“It was like the Roman Empire (at Hawthorn). It was decadent. It is (cheating). But everyone cheats. Everyone was doing it. It was rife through the AFL.”

Scott also revealed former president of Hawthorn, Phillip Ryan, had warned the club about the incident when taking over as commissioner of the league’s player payments.

“They put money into an account down there. They (the players) would get a cheque from something that was unrelated to the footy club. Back in those days you could do a lot of different things with bank accounts,” he said.

The scheme was reportedly run by former Hawthorn administrators, who have since passed away.

Nah, I misunderstood the question. My bad.

Though god knows why you've got that team setup in any case. ;)
I don't but if they were included in Best 18 I would and have 3 premium mids on the bench as well all with the E on.

It should be. Cheating is cheating, 30 years ago or today. These things will always catch you up.

Sounds like there might actually be hard evidence on record somewhere, unlike some other investigations into AFL cheating which I remember well.
Yeah that was my thoughts, Don Scott said it was all done through bank accounts in Tasmania... So there would be records that could likely be investigated.

Probably won't be investigated but a big story none the less.

North Melbourne used to give their players brown paper bags full of money after games during the Carey era.

Costa used to make "donations" to the Cats after games.

Daicos would find $$$ in his boots

Lions were getting travel vouchers for themselves and families worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Bradley , Kernahan & Williams had a landscaping business at Carlton and their girlfriends/wives were getting paid for being typists.

When the Swans were after Walker , they were going to fly his parents to Sydney from Broken Hill any week they wanted , and pay for his then girlfriends Uni course in Sydney.

Been going on for years and still is , no way any club is under the salary cap these days.

Investigate them all.

Does anyone know when teams will be announced during this 20 days bonanza? Thought Wednesday nights teams would be available by now? Or is it only made available after the conclusion of tonight’s game? Cher’s

Per @KLo30

A reminder that teams are announced 6:20pm the day before the game and confirmed an hour before the first bounce.

They will also be posted pretty quickly in the Round Threads here.
