I assume that means an upside for Anderson.
I wouldn't go for that. The comparison is pretty rough, choosing one of the worst kicks in the league and comparing him with one of the best isn't really a fair comparison. You could do that stat all over the field and I'd assume it remains the same gap, Butters is an elite kick and Anderson is terrible and always has been.
Anderson's problem is he's a very poor technical kick, his decision making is actually ok but he just doesn't have the skills to make the kicks that Butters makes, who's not only elite in kicking skill but also in variety of kicks that he can make. Butters is similar to Gryan Miers or Zach Merrett in his ability to hit angled kicks that only a handful of guys can, he's also got exquisite touch on his kicks.
Would be more interested to see how he stacks up against the likes of Oliver or Dangerfield who are more like the division he's in as a kicker.
Anderson's improvement case is pure volume and learning how to play away from home, where he was absolutely dreadful.
Last year he averaged 128 in home games (132 if you remove the two Darwin home games) and 87 in away games, 9 of his top 10 games for the season were at home. I don't know if any player has ever had that kind of home/away split but he was two different players. If he can sustain that home scoring and even boost the away to 100, he becomes viable.
There's really no good explanation for it either, if anything they've got the most unfavourable home ground conditions (especially with the two Darwin games) of any team, maybe being used to them helps a lot but you'd think it would make his role harder and should be easier at other venues.
Early bye just kills him as a starting pick and given his history of highly volatile scoring (a trait of very poor kickers), he screams upgrade target, imo.
