Update on Zerrett. Sounds positive

Zach progressing well

Zach Merrett has “pulled up really well” and is showing encouraging signs since suffering a concussion after colliding with Adelaide’s Richard Douglas on Friday night.

Merrett failed to return to the game after the knock in the first quarter and Douglas has since been suspended for one match – a ban he will challenge at the tribunal this week.

Essendon GM of Football Dan Richardson says the midfielder passed a cognitive test on Monday morning and would be in the mix to return to the side for Essendon’s clash against Fremantle on Saturday.

“The docs conducted a cognitive test on him today, which he actually passed, but that doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to play this week,” Richardson said.

“All of the signs are positive and we’ll just monitor how the week progresses.”

“I would suggest unless there’s some symptoms around not feeling quite right he should be right to play.”

Richardson said suggestions that Merrett had suffered three concussions in quick succession over recent weeks were false.

“I’ve heard those reports myself and that’s not correct. Aside from the weekend a couple of incidents we had were head knocks, but they weren’t concussions,” he said.

“One was actually more a migraine, which he does get from time to time. We need to be clear that it’s not three concussions in the short space of time that some media outlets are reporting.”

Merrett was unrestricted on Monday, training with the main group as he presses for a return to the team.

After seeing NicNat's performance yesterday, I'm sure most of them will jump on him instead.....and then later jump on Stef when NicNat predictably breaks down
As long as they stay away from Nank and Gawn they can do what they want :D

Does anyone think this concussion for Merrett will impact his scores going forward?

We have seen in the past with many players that for the next 3-4 weeks after a concussion, Players sometimes don't totally look themselves and put in some below par games. Do we think this will also happen with Merrett?

Don't know how it will effect his scoring but the fact that he is a little man who spends most of his time around stoppages and has been concussed 2 of out 3 last games is enough to put me off him.

I have Merrett and will be trading him out to Cogs.

Multiple hits to the head can't be a good thing and one more hit to the head could see him sidelined for several weeks.
Just thinking of Brayshaw and McCartin.

Great... JK now out until round 4 or 5. Our medical staff are useless.

On another note, Tom Cole back at training... So should be back in the selection mix again, I personally hope he comes in for Nelson.

'Hoping round four or five': New Eagle delay

JOSH Kennedy has delivered some concerning news for West Coast fans, declaring his comeback date could be pushed back again.

The dual Coleman medallist was originally targeting a return in Sunday's season opener against Sydney after undergoing ankle surgery in December.

But Kennedy's comeback was pushed back to round three, then possibly to round four after a minor knee operation to remove a bone fragment.

Now the 30-year-old star has revealed he could be out of action for another week.

"I'm hoping round four or five now," Kennedy told 6PR.

"I've been running the last two sessions and I'm in full training today with the boys.

"But because it put me back a week-and-a-bit having that (knee) surgery we're looking at round four, round five now."

Kennedy moved freely at Lathlain Park on Tuesday, twisting, jumping and kicking without any apparent issues.

"We're doing everything we can to get the numbers and get the loading through the legs and the body," he said.

"It's been a bit disappointing obviously with that, but the ankle and the surgery from that is going really, really well.

"The knee was a just a bit of a hiccup."

While the Eagles were boosted by Nic Naitanui's influential return against Sydney, they sorely missed their star goalkicker as Swans champion Lance Franklin ran riot with an eight-goal haul.

Kennedy's admission means he might not be sighted before the round five trip to face Carlton at the MCG.

West Coast takes on Fremantle in the historic first Western Derby at Optus Stadium the following week.

"Obviously it was frustrating sitting up there and not being able to play (against Sydney)," Kennedy said.

"But the boys showed some pretty good spirit in fighting the way they did.

"The guys up forward played their role, which was pretty good, and we were able to get 60 inside 50s which is what we want to do as a team."

Willie Rioli was on the track on Tuesday, allaying fears about any injury issues stemming from East Perth's thumping loss to Peel in Saturday's practice match.

Rioli started the game without strapping on his troublesome left knee but had the leg bandaged during the first quarter.

Young midfielder Hamish Brayshaw walked laps at Lathlain Park, while Nathan Vardy (adductor), Brendon Ah Chee (ankle) and Eric Mackenzie (toe) made brief appearances with the rehab group.

Six-game defender Tom Cole was also back at training after his father's funeral in Victoria last Friday.

Would have been handy news last week, Waterman probably gets a decent run at it now, didn’t mind his game against a seasoned Swans defence.

Might be a long month for your lot LITS, no disrespect but I reckon that young forward line will struggle to kick a winning score most weeks.

Yeah, It's not going to be easy that's for sure, But we did better against the Swans than I thought really pushing a top quality side in a game where Buddy had statistically his best ever career game. The young kids will be all the better for the run and we come against a Bulldogs team who is really struggling this week, so fingers crossed.

We are going to need LeCras & Darling to kick some goals which they are very capable of... plus the midfield needs to chip in as well.

We have WBD away, GEE home, GCS home, CAR away, FRE home, PTA home... So good potential to get some wins I think.

Brendan Goddard quoted on Perth radio 30 min ago advising Zerrett will play this weekend. Actually passed the tests last Saturday but doctor decided to play it super safe after JLT knock he got earlier.

Anyone heard any extra info regarding Kreuzer? Really hoping the big fella gets up for this weekend. Have no interest in having to use a RUC trade already.

Update from Andrew McKay 30 mins ago is that Kreuzer will have to get through training at the end of this week to be considered for selection.

I heard he didn't train yesterday. 50-50 chance to play. You probably need to get English
