@Professor

Did you post about Adam Kennedy's shoulder reconstruction ?

Another GWS defensive option gone.
A positive for Cummings' role?

GREATER Western Sydney has suffered another cruel injury blow on the eve of the 2021 season, with defender Adam Kennedy set to be sidelined for up to five months with a shoulder injury.

In a blow reminiscent of the one that forced ruckman Braydon Preuss to go under the knife last week, Kennedy has also undergone a shoulder reconstruction after sustaining the injury during last Thursday's session.

Both will now likely miss the first half of the upcoming campaign, with the latest setback continuing a horror recent injury run for Kennedy after he was restricted to just six games last season due to a hamstring problem.

Small forward Brent Daniels is also set to miss the early stages of the 2021 season, including the side's crucial round one bout with St Kilda, after injuring his hamstring in the same brutal session last Thursday.

Daniels will be sidelined for six weeks and will join Kennedy and Preuss, as well as small forward Bobby Hill (concussion), first-year wingman Ryan Angwin (concussion) and experienced defender Phil Davis (knee) in missing this Saturday's behind-closed-doors practice match against Sydney.

Gun midfielder Lachie Whitfield will also be sidelined as he continues his recovery from a bruised liver, but captain Stephen Coniglio will play after returning from the AFL's new 12-day concussion protocol.

I started Cumming last year ($250K) and he went 57, 47 and then got dropped. He just couldn't get amongst it and from memory butchered a lot of what he got. He was one of my disaster starting picks and is a perfect example of how even low range speculative mid-pricers can cause you grief, particularly if you have a few others (which I did).

Didn't even realise he bobbed up for a 97 in his third game for the season in the LAST round. He can GOGF! (watch him become the next Jake Lloyd now)

Certainly more opportunity for him this year with the retirements and GWS' run of injuries in the pre-season. But he'd want to demonstrate a serious amount of form to convince me to pick him again.

Break glass in case of emergency I think. If the rookies don't show up I would have Young, Harmes and Cumming in that order. Anyone else I'm missing?

I like Sholl the most as he's got the strongest indicator of a genuine role and his kicking is so good in a team that is generally very poor that you know getting him the ball will be a priority. To me he's in a similar vein as a Daniel or Ridley last year where the teams just funnel the ball towards them when they can. Of course at his price he's really close to keeper or bust land down back and he's awfully unproven but he's that guy who I think can average 95+

Milera at 40k cheaper probably presents the better overall equation from the Crows.

H. Young is a great talent but they've got Hill, Wilson, Ryan, Logue, Aish and Conca, all of whom don't mind to run and kick also (ignoring Cerra who I think is done in that role), that's a lot of sharing of the ball for mine. He's the kind of pick I'd make if Ryan was injured and the kick-in thing seemed genuinely likely. Still on my radar though, such is the talent.

Ash/Cumming are probably going to cannabalise each other's points along with Haynes and Whitfield already probably taking the primary roles. Cumming probably slightly ahead simply because he's cheaper and more senior but as much as I like Ash as a player I think he really struggles to score enough this year when he will still be learning the defensive balance.

J. Clark I'd really like if I felt safe about his spot in the team, he's a far more dynamic and talented player than anyone they have off half back but Stewart but he seems to be forced into a midfield role where there is just so much competition. They've got Duncan and Menegola with Higgins and Smith for their wings, as much as I love Clark I don't see how he beats that group out. He's that rare one where hearing he's training with the midfield group is pretty bad news.

Harmes is so hard to judge. Has the runs on the board but his narrative doesn't stack up for why the Demons would go back to that because as hard as he tries he just lacks talent so generally you'd expect that give talent the prime roles first. That said, grunts have always got a place and if he can weasel his way into the right role he's cheap enough to do the job and very capable of some very big scores because he does score in multiple ways.

Ah Chee is worth watching. Can play and does some nice things. Probably too expensive also though.

Alex Keath is actually one that interests me a little. Would love to see him given more of an intercept role for the Dogs and reckon he can score very well in that role. Would need to see it very clearly with a full strength side though!

Markov is a guy I think is a good player and reckon he was recruited for a specific role, just depends if they rated his attacking skills like I do or actually wanted his defensive skills.

Webster definitely an interesting one if he can find his way into the side, as unlikely as it seems at this point.

Budarick was also a good junior who could expand his role but would take a big jump and I think they've already got enough ball carriers for now.

Connor Idun could get a go, great preseason so far.
I think he's a chance but he's a different style of player. Idun is more of an athletic key position player whereas Cumming plays smaller (though is also an athletic specimen).

FWIW I don't actually rate Cumming that highly and he's not going to get a sniff of my team, but I know I'm an exception amongst GWS fans.

ADELAIDE midfielder Wayne Milera has suffered a serious knee injury in the Crows' trial match against Port Adelaide on Saturday.

While scans are still required, Adelaide is fearing the 23-year-old has suffered a suspected ruptured patella tendon, which could rule him out for the season.

Milera has had a rough trot with injury, suffering a stress fracture in his foot in round two last year, eventually ruling him out for the season.

GREATER Western Sydney is sweating on the fitness of gun new recruit Jesse Hogan, with the key forward in a race against time to be fit for a round one clash against St Kilda after suffering a quad injury at training this week.

Hogan is expected to miss between three to four weeks due to the latest setback and won't take part in any of the Giants' back-to-back practice matches against the Swans, meaning he will face an uphill battle to prove his fitness and return against the Saints in 22 days.

It's a cruel blow for the talented 26-year-old goalkicker, who has endured a number of injury issues that have plagued his seven seasons in the AFL system with both Melbourne and Fremantle.

The Giants had earmarked Hogan as one of the stars on the track this pre-season, having arrived at the club from the Dockers in exchange for pick No.54 last November.

However, he now joins a growing Giants injury list that also features star midfielder Lachie Whitfield (bruised liver), ruckman Braydon Preuss (shoulder), defender Adam Kennedy (shoulder), small forward Brent Daniels (hamstring) and the experienced Phil Davis (knee).

However, in better news for the club, small forward Bobby Hill and first-year wingman Ryan Angwin are both set to return from respective concussion issues for next week's AAMI Community Series clash against Sydney.
