I get WCE has a heap of injuries, so do other clubs, but I'm not buying into this being the sole reason they're ordinary.
I don't think other clubs are picking their team purely from the only fit players they have left? There are guys palying all over the place just so they can field a team. Also isn't easy when a team is in a rebuilding phase to cop this much of a smashing to not just experienced players, but also the ones they want to get games/experience into.
Not to say the eagles were in line to play finals this year, but any chance of progression and improvement has been obliterated by the length of injury list and players injured.

You are correct.

Don't want to go into too much because I am a bit over all the excuses given, however it a nutshell I would say :-

Lengthy injury list has made it hard to get continuity into implementing a new game style/ game plan - WCE under Simmo were slow to adjust to the faster paced game & have been playing catch up. Extra sprinting/running has put more strain on their bodies leading to injuries. I think the whole strength & conditioning program needs an overhaul, bring in whole new fitness staff.

Training standards dropped during Covid - attitude going into hubs was not good, club's leaders should of embraced & accepted the situation far better.

The Tim Kelly trade - essentially gave up almost 2 years worth of draft picks for 1 player as felt they were still in the premiership window & he was the missing piece. It was a real risk to take given the list was ageing but they felt he was worth it despite the cost... this has been a monumental mistake, Kelly went from being the 4th best mid at the cats to being the main man at WCE (with Shuey & Yeo always injured) which is a huge difference - he has struggled when tagged & the weight of expectation. To his credit he has been better this year but he will never be an A grade midfielder in my opinion. Only players in the class of Judd in his prime, Ablett in his prime, maybe Daicos currently  ( although in a few years he could be that good) would be close to being worthy of that type of trade. Paid ridiculous overs for him, paying a big price for it now with a real lack of quality young talent coming through. Oscar Allen, Reuben Ginbey, Elijah Hewett & Noah Long are 4 that I think we can build around long term - they will be quality AFL players but it will be at least 3 years before we will be a decent team again.

The issues are exacerbated by the age and players on the list. NN has been injured many years but is retained for marketing. Shuey (and Hurn recently) can't stay on the field. Gov has never been strong on fitness and that may become an issue now he's 30+.

It reminds me of Freo's post 2016 teams, where our injury list started the year with the likes of Morabito, Bennell, Hogan, Stephen Hill, McCarthy and most were on all season. Then as the usual number of injuries hit, Freo were forced to play those who are the 40th player on the list.

Great summary.
Adelaide 2018-2020 vibes....tough times for you and the SCS Eagles crew but a great organisation like WCE will no doubt rebuild just got to give it time like you say and get some quality kids in

I’m usually not so dismissive of reporters, but that was pure fear mongering from that guy. Someone else even commented in the thread that he’s had strapping on that knee pretty much all season.
I don't think so, he was obviously doing a fitness test and he got through it no problems. Not sure what the big deal was with the report tbh.

It’s just white noise that means nothing at the end of the day. It’d be like me saying ‘it might rain during the game’ when a couple of clouds are nearby.

Report when you have something concrete, not race to be first with information that then fuels rumours.

Maybe, but tbh if I could subscribe to news of any players who had to complete fitness tests to play or participate in full training I would.

Following on from the last few posts, thought I'd post this here.

Not sure if anyone has seen this twitter poster before (I think it has been linked here once or twice previously), but he is an accredited AFL umpire who generally gives a fair response to most controversial decisions, and it's interesting reading.

It will be interesting to see what happens this week with regards to this one from the AFL, if anything.
Nothing. Whetton is named as an umpire in the Dockers v Hawks game.
