Swans coach John Longmire has no plans to give Brodie Grundy a week off ahead of Sydney’s AFL finals campaign – unless the experienced ruckman asks for a break..........

..........Longmire also didn’t agree that Grundy was in need of a rest.

“We talk about it all the time – what’s the best thing for each of our players,” he said.

“He’s obviously one of them that we’ve looked after during the week at different times, and have done as the season progresses.

“That time that he may need a spell, we’ll consider that, but we rely upon heavily what he provides us with his feedback.

“He’s an experienced 200-game player. He knows what his body’s feeling like, and I’m sure if he was looking for a rest, he’d come and tell us.”

Longmire said the AFL competition wasn’t “designed” for a team to be dominant for the entire season.

............Midfielder James Rowbottom is set to return for the Swans on Saturday after recovering from a facial fracture.

“It’ll be good to have him back. He’s a crash-and-bash player,” Longmire said.

The Sydney coach was also hopeful that key defender Lewis Melican would be available despite being forced off the field against the Bulldogs due to a hamstring injury.

“(It’s) not as bad as what we thought. We’re still hopeful. We’ll see how he goes this week, but (we’re) relieved that he’s actually not too bad. He’s OK.”

Honeyball:
Essendon has confirmed Jordan Ridley will miss 3 weeks due to a hip flexor strain. Dons GM of Football Daniel McPherson said: “Rids felt some discomfort in his hip after a marking contest just prior to half-time. We used the break to assess the injury, which we originally hoped was just a cork, but ultimately, he wasn’t able to continue, and so was subbed out of the game at half-time. Follow-up scans on Sunday morning unfortunately showed a strain to his hip flexor.

What happened here? I don't think he played did he?

I assume that means more than 1 week away? Any info appreciated!
News tonight mentioned he was available for selection for the Geelong game , no reason given why he missed the SANFL game though.

Ok injury report on their website said Crouch missed with a virus and should be all clear to join training tomorrow

MELBOURNE defender Steven May is set for a stint on the sidelines after suffering multiple fractured ribs in Friday night's loss to Footscray.

May was subbed out of the match following a collision with Bulldogs forward Sam Darcy in the second quarter, before being taken to hospital via ambulance for scans.

It is the second time the premiership Demon has dealt with the injury, having played through two cracked ribs earlier in the season, with scans showing the latest injury is to the same ribs he injured earlier in the year.

May has since been discharged from hospital, but no timeline has been set for his return.

Is there a possibility for Hore to replace May'?
This question comes from a coach with no defensive bench coverage.

RISING star contender George Wardlaw is expected to return for the final fortnight of the season, but North Melbourne key defender Griffin Logue will undergo a wrist reconstruction later this week that will sideline him for up to four months.

Wardlaw reported delayed concussion symptoms last Thursday following an incident late in the loss to Geelong at Blundstone Arena in round 20 and missed Saturday’s win over Richmond at Marvel Stadium.

The 20-year-old won’t be available for this weekend's trip to Hobart to host West Coast after entering the AFL's mandatory 12-day concussion protocols last Thursday.
