Ah that's OK. Many people read both places, some post more here and some more over there. At the end of the day we are all SCers and are more alike than different.

Where can I access these heatmaps?

As Oz said, they might be on the website but I have never got them from there, I get mine from the AFL app in match centre but you must have an AFL live pass to see them.

Just looking on afl site now and do not find it as readily as last season. Think had an AFL Live pass last year and that is why I saw them and not if not fully subscribed. AFL App looks the way to go as you are doing for this year.

Sorry to ask (I could sound really stupid) but what do the blue dots mean?

Possessions

This is one of those important times to distinguish between "possessions" and "disposals"
You can take possession of the ball, and not dispose of it. (eg get tackled)
You can dispose of the ball, and not take possession of it. (eg kick it off the ground)
McGovern's heat map is proof, that these are possession, not disposal maps. He kicked a goal out of mid air, 2 metres from the goal line, but as you can see, he has no blue dot near the goal line. He never actually took possession of the ball. This also explains why you will see a discrepancy between blue dots, and disposal counts.
