Hi Rowsus,

Just wondering your thoughts on Kade Kolodjashnij??

Thanks
Hi GG,
I think KK's a good value pick, for those struggling in the Def line. I can't see him going backwards in price, which is not something we can say about a lot of Defs this season. It's possible he could reach a (weakish) D6 level, but it is more likely he gets upgraded around or after the byes.

Hey Rowsus,

Are u keen on a 4/0/4 midfield?
Still trying to decide whether I throw Newton in there (already have Cripps) or go with a Swallow, Neale or Steven.
Leaning towards a Swallow out of the three but I do like Neale.
Can you please help me decide?
Hey Slammer,
my own Midfield is 4-0-7, and I can't see that changing, so yes, I'm keen on it. I would love to have Neale, but we have to draw a line somewhere. I have Swallow at D4, and chose him over Neale by following the Rule # 9 - Take history over potential. Having said that, it is possible all 3 of Swallow, Neale and Steven will turn out to be good picks. I'm not big fan of Newton right now, so I would prefer one of the 3 value picks over him. I'm worried about his tank keeping him down in the 70's most games. Check back with me in Round 3, and I'll probably be trading him in as a correction trade! :p

Hi Rowsus,

Is there any reason for Michael Johnson's drop off in production from round 18 2014 or was it just injury?
Hi mproust,
I think it was just the after affect of injury. Doing a medial ligament in Rnd 12, and missing 4 weeks, would have lowered his base fitness. Too good to leave out, I think that slightly altered his role on his return.

Rnd 1 - 11 he played 10 games averaging 98 and 97.6% TOG
Rnd 12 subbed off at half-time for 75 and 43% TOG
Rnd 17 - 23 he played 7 games averaging 73 and 95.4% TOG
He then missed the finals with a back problem.

I'm not worried, he's the perfect player for Freo to use as a play reading intercept mark taking player. He's in my team.

Hey Rowsus,
Love your work mate and just wondering what you think of Jack Martin?
From all reports, he has killed it on the track and has put on 5kg's over the preseason.
My only worry is that in his only NAB game, he scored a 35 with 61% game time - which is a pretty big worry!
With the wraps he has been getting from Eade and all of the hype is it worth the risk?
Quite awkwardly priced at 300k
Thanks mate

Hi Rowsus,
Currently have 3 round 12 bye mids in my team (Fyfe, Pendlebury, JPK)
Seems like Ablett is training well and I want to bring him in, who out of the above 3 should I trade out?

Cheers
Hey Pro,
I can't see anything wrong with 4 Rnd 12 Mids, if that is what you think makes your team strongest. The byes can usually be negotiated by the lead up trades anyway.
If you have to bone one to make way for Ablett, I'd bone Fyfe. There's probably not a lot between the scoring of the 3 of them, but Fyfe is the one most likely to miss games.

Just come across Dalgleish (Ess, Def, $145k). Do you know anything about him or his NAB performances? Is he a player only if all the ASADA blokes get banned?

Hi Rowsus, everyday I wake up and check this thread, it's like waking up to the news headlines.. only better! Some serious work has gone in here. Love it!!

So I'm currently sitting on a midfield of Gaz, Pendles, Selwood, Wines, Swallow, Cripps and under 200k rookies. I have a player vs player question, I'm thinking of switching Wines to Neale, this will allow me to upgrade Swallow to JPK. Of course my byes will be totally shot if I don't manage to trade well! I have 2 concerns, the first is that Wines improved his average by over 15 points and might not improve or maintain it this year and my second concern is that Neale will out-perform Wines or at least match him but at a lower starting price, I'm just not sure how to identify it.

So basically asking your thoughts/analysis on Wines vs Neale. Both in top end teams playing as the 3-4th best midfielder in their team and around the same amount of games played.
Hi TOP, I'm glad you're enjoying it all. :)
Here's what RB asked me on 25/3/2015, page 176, post #3509

I have enough cash to get me from Neale to Wines. Which would you choose?
And here is my reply the next day, same page, post #3514.

This will sound strange I guess. If I was choosing between Neale and Wines, I would probably take Neale. I admit it is the type of decision that makes me a questionable SC player. I think percentage wise, as in likelihood of success, Wines is a better pick, but I feel like I'm a little "invested" in Neale. I started to get excited about him late last season, and did a lot of research on him, so if I had room, I'd take him.
If I was giving my mum advice on her SC (she doesn't play by the way), I would point out that Neale is a much riskier pick, and she would probably be safer taking Wines.
I hope that all makes sense.

Hi Rowsus,

I've been set on Ablett & Rocky all preseason and now I'm getting worried about Ablett.

What does a player like a Bontempelli need to average early doors to get to around 500k, if I have 200k in the bank, to afford Ablett if he drops in value below 700k by Round 5-6.

I'm concerned he might miss the first 1 or 2 and then take a few Rounds to blow out the cobwebs before being a must have ...

What would be the better option then...

Hey Rowsus,

Any concerns with Pendles? Now they have lost another midfielder.
Do you think Pendles may struggle along with Collingwood?
I know he is a gun but do you see his value dropping significantly or will he continue to perform?
Also will this have any effect on Swan? Swan my may run through the middle more?

Hi Rowsus,

thanks for a great start to the year, full of insight and help to us mere mortals. Any further thought on Aaron Young? your previous article spiked an interest and i'm thinking about including him, particularly if he gets named this week on the field. Appreciate more thoughts...
Hi ****, I'm happy to help. :)
I'm currently sticking with my plan to start Young, and then reassess after the first 2 rounds, to see if I would be better to turn him into Cripps/Sheed/Newton. Obviously it is better to start with the higher priced one of the 4 players, to make any necessary transition easier. There aren't too many players available to us with a SC/100%TOG over 100, and price below $250k.

Hi TOP, I'm glad you're enjoying it all. :)
Thanks for the reply mate, I have a feeling during the next 2 days you'll be bombarded with people wanting your perspective, which is definitely a bit of respect from this great community.

At this point I think it's a gut feel for this 50/50 decision.

Hey Rowsus,

What are your thoughts on Robbie Tarrant at F5-7? Brad Scott today "Tarrant ready to play, really pleased with his pre-season". I think he will be playing key back, and he seems better pick than Hogan but arguably not against Salem and Clark.

Cheers!
Hey dyii,
I can understand some people taking the risk with him, but not for me. Poor injury history, poor SC history, I'd rather take a chance on an unknown quantity, than a known poor performer with a poor injury/scoring history. KPP Defs are notoriously poor scorers.

It is a ballsy choice Rowsus. I like you are sticking to it and giving it a go to see if it works. If it does not work least you know you tried and not left wondering.

Hi Rowsus,

When you've caught up with the breaking news at Collingwood regarding Magpie duo Keeffe and Thomas testing positive for banned substance, can you revisit the question of T Adams in the FWD line? I know he was on your watchlist preseason and he was in and out of my team earlier on but hasn't been in consideration for the last 2 weeks, I've opted for ruck cover in his place.

With the retirement of Ball and now the unavailability of Greenwood and J Thomas, does this increases his midfield opportunity and hence SC potential and makes him a calculated risk at F4? Does this also changes our opinion of Swan potentially running through the midfield more?

Not sure if I'm punching at shadows or whether it's worthwhile tinkering with my structure at this late stage, but this news has certainly got me thinking again.
Hi THCLT,
it doesn't change much for me, in regards to non-Rookie players at Collingwood. It obviously could help a Freeman or Oxley out, but I'm not sure it makes much difference to Adams. I'm no Collingwood expert, but I don't think it will overly overtax their midfield losing those two, so I can't see changing Adams' role too much.

One more quick one....is it too much to start with 5 potential keepers in the DEF and FWD, leaving a 4 (3.5 really)-0-7 MID and 1-1-0 RUC? generally speaking of course....just think rookies will only be prominent in MID.

Salem, have him? Get him? or Get rid of him?

Personally I have him atm at F5 but not sold and wondering if you have anything to add on him

Cheers again mate, absolute BEAST!
I can see very little downside in having Salem. He has good JS, and what would appear to have a very SC friendly role. I don't think there are any/many "must haves" this season, but getting Rookies with that sort of description would seem to be very high up on the "should probably have" list! :p
