Yeah, that sounds right what you said "Basically for mine every change should be basically assessed on "does it reward skill/effort?" and "does it reduce the luck aspect?", I think anything that does both is a really positive change."
So, any changes would have to be thought well through.

Just brain storming:

- I like how in Rd1, we were able to make any changes to our team until a player is locked. So, make all rounds the same, but still have the 2 trades per round and Byes 3 trades.

- All players to have dual positions, that way there will be more flexability to cover donuts. Key position players like a Tom Hawkins can be a 'Fwd/Ruc', players like a Darcy Moore a 'Def/Fwd' and other key position players add a 'Mid' to them.
What I think is a very common sense option is to be able to use the DPP how it functions in trades without having to make a trade.

For example... say I have Fantasia as a B/F in the FWD and I have Sharp as a B/M in the backs, I can switch them by moving a F/M into the forwards.

The whole wedging it into only being able to swap like for like unless you trade and then the rules change seems arbitrary and pointless to me.

To be fair you can kind of do the first of your ideas, the players only lock when they've played so I'm not really sure what would change outside if you physically make the trades they lock.

Don't like the 2nd idea to be honest. I actually like that limited DPP can make certain players more appealing than they've otherwise be and think it should reflect players real positions.

Personally one thing I'd love to see, but will never happen, would be interest on the money in the bank, if you got say 10% interest per round it would become such a fascinating tactic and I reckon would massively diversify the starting teams as keeping money in the bank would become a strategy in itself.

Another possible idea that I think could be a good one would be to replace the emergencies with "loopholes" and you can nominate an onfield player and you get the better score of the pair, with the emergency system simply becoming that you get the "lowest score" on the bench for each donut at that position, obviously still able to field the player you wish to replace though. Positive of this as a player is you don't need to study the fixtures or be active over the weekend to achieve it, I guess the negative is it removes the luck/"skill" element in loopholing though.

Personally I think they should do something to reduce the likelihood of donuts, for two reasons:

- No AFL side ever starts a game playing short. There’s always another player to come in.

- Donuts significantly reduce the enjoyment of the game for those who get them.

Perhaps one option (that doesn’t create additional loop opportunities) would be to replace any donut with the lowest scoring E selected on any other line.

It wouldn’t be a great score most of the time, but it would avoid the frustration of copping a donut!

Time to take the mod hat off and go for a dirty rant

The rolling team announcements can GAGF. Forced a donut.

Clark out announcement comes at 6:20pm Sat

Heeney and all my DPPs lock out at 4:35pm Sat so needed to execute both trades before 4:35pm.

Had I known Clark was out on Friday, would’ve done Clark to Jones instead of Jordon to Waterman to save a donut.

Would’ve meant Scott on field over Waterman and Jones instead of a donut. Essentially costs me 100+ pts on rookie selections.

Ridley concussion sub on top of all this last night to just rub that salt into the wounds.
Funny now that in hindsight it seems that Clark to Jones was a losing move too. Forced donut was for the best long term otherwise I would’ve been in strife with Ridley/Jones/Highmore

I like that.
And that player could be called the 'Medical Sub' ;)

Also like @wogitalia thinking outside the square with his idea to get interest on the money in the bank per round.

A lot of good ideas, something has to be done to make this game less frustrating. Hope SC is reading this thread?

Trading in a non-preferred premium later in the round really isn’t a solution though, is it?

It’s a byproduct of the initial problem, which is that teams are announced the evening before each game day for a round spread over 4 days.

Personally I feel the Powers That Be, need to find a solution, rather than make it harder for people that want to play but don’t want to stay glued to their phones or social media all weekend.
It is a risk/reward strategy. No one is saying don’t EVER trade in Steele, but if you don’t want the downside risk this week trade him in when he plays later in the round a week or two later.

I agree totally that the rolling teams is a huge issue. The only solution is for the AFL to unwind it and go back to Thursday teams, but IMO they won’t as they don’t see fantasy sport as an important stakeholder.

If rolling teams stays the SC organisers have a **** sandwich to deal with and ideally would make an adjustment in some way. Until they do manage the risk wherever possible.

I see Chris Fagan complaining about the length of quarters.

After Saturday game, where score reviews, blood rule stoppages and goals saw two of the four quarters go beyond 36 minutes, Fagan said he'd like to see a new middle-ground quarter length of 18 minutes plus time-on, citing the potential for injuries with longer games.

"Gee, it was 136 minutes tonight. I think we have to have a look at it," Fagan said

"It is way too long - it wears the players out. I don't know the stats but the injury lists at clubs at the moment look big and long and we're only into round six.

"I'm sure the AFL are aware of it but I think the game needs to be shorter than 136 minutes and I think there was one quarter of 36 minutes tonight and another of 37 - so it's a long time.

"I don't know what the breakdown of it was but the game feels long at the moment.

Now I have never played AFL so maybe I am way off here but that is the biggest load BS I can think of. No doubt the quarters were long but the players were not playing when they had blood rules and score reviews. Those times I would think benefit the teams as they can re group, have a minute or two rest on field instead of use a bench rotation, you might be able to get a player on field from the bench with minimum risk to your on field structure etc.

It is hard to know what impact clubs having less of a break between the end of last season and the start of preseason will have on players. The last H&A game was Sept 21 last year where usually it is around late August. Interesting to note however that if you go back to last "normal" season (2019) the number of injuries at this round in is almost identical.

The game has been played for decades with 20 min quarters and time on. The main reason the quarters may be longer is because play is stopped. Not because the players are asked to play longer. Just get over it.

Or would you like to go to the NFL system and have a two minute warning every quarter so every one can just wander around and have a cup of tea and a bikkie while ads play? Then you would find some other reason to say that it detrimental to the game.

Rant over.

Trading Kosi the week he was dropped in favour of Brockman when he was named. What an epic fail.

Just about every 50/50 decision I have made this season has been wrong! 😡😡😡
You and me both mate, every week 50/50 rookie decision has been a fail, traded out Kosi to Chapman weeks go, this week could have traded gulden or Warner, guess who I chose, traded out Jordan instead of Campbell at the time also for a cash grab given his high be, 3 weeks straight 50/50 calls going wrong

Exact same situation for me except I got rid of Kosi last week (when he was ALREADY NAMED) for L.Jones as I wanted to to use my two trades this week for an upgrade. Now sitting with a donut in the backline whereas my opponent has him in his lineup. Now Kosi on track for 110+

Absolute joke

Loopholes... god damn loopholes. I hate them, every week I lose points. It's so much easier to just set and forget and not have to torment over getting them wrong.

I'm pretty sure I'm the worst loopholer SC has ever seen. Well on my way to the 1000 lost points mark for the season which would be a great season for me

I must say, this surprises me as you seem to have a great knowledge of all aspects of the real game as well as SC.

Tex + Impey + Jaith >> Neale + Cripps + Jelly.

999 times out of 1000 you back 3 players with multi year premium history against 3 “no premium history” players. Seems this is that 1 other time.

I believe it's called analysis paralysis

I just can't get it right, the week I take on a 120 I cop an 80, I take on a 35 and I get a 20 and then I don't take on a 35 and the replacement gets 100.

Just an amazing ability to get it wrong. LOL Fantasy I don't have any excuse but for neglected child syndrome as I flat out forgot to bench Rantall to take Jordon...

Every &#*$@ decision I make this year turns to :poop:.

Latest is holding Hurn for a minor calf (1-2 weeks) only for him to tweak it in the last training session before his return. Presumably no guarantee to return next week either. Will likely cost me any chance in most of my league matchups including the PL where I am absolutely embarrassing myself.

Never have I hated an AFL SuperCoach season so much and been so tempted to delete my team and stop this agony.

Last week I had a genuine 50/50 trade in of either Mills or Ryan. I went with Ryan which cost me about 40pts last week and now Ryan is out giving me a donut in the backline this week. That’s about 140 pts in 2 weeks and a possible trade out if Ryan’s calf become a longer term injury.

Sometime this game is all about luck.

Time and time again over the past few seasons I have been unwilling to fork out the money for Gawn as a starting selection and he continually outperforms or matches his price in the early period. I then bring him in when funds permit or I am facing 1 or several donuts, only for him to dish up tripe like this and continually disappoint. Was not interested in Gawn in the slightest earlier this round as I was set on selecting both of May and Zorko and continuing to rely on Flynn until grabbing Marshall, etc.

Just when I was starting to have a good round after struggling in the past 3 rounds for an average of 2039 (thanks to Kelly, Daniel and co returning to form) I will again struggle to get to 2050. Now with the injury to Chapman I will be unable to afford the Rowe to May trade and unfortunately will have to cull Warner early if I proceed to go down that route.

Disheartening when I continually make what I feel are sound decisions given the current situations instead of backing my gut. May as well start bitching and moaning about the scoring system every 5 minutes and how they are out to rob all of my players when I cannot be bothered to understand the basics and the information we are privy to. Add to that I may as well start knocking back 120-125 captain scores for fun to get a score between 140-145 so I can receive those extra 40 points as both of these strategies seem to work extremely well.
