Yeah, that sounds right what you said "Basically for mine every change should be basically assessed on "does it reward skill/effort?" and "does it reduce the luck aspect?", I think anything that does both is a really positive change."
So, any changes would have to be thought well through.
Just brain storming:
- I like how in Rd1, we were able to make any changes to our team until a player is locked. So, make all rounds the same, but still have the 2 trades per round and Byes 3 trades.
- All players to have dual positions, that way there will be more flexability to cover donuts. Key position players like a Tom Hawkins can be a 'Fwd/Ruc', players like a Darcy Moore a 'Def/Fwd' and other key position players add a 'Mid' to them.

For example... say I have Fantasia as a B/F in the FWD and I have Sharp as a B/M in the backs, I can switch them by moving a F/M into the forwards.
The whole wedging it into only being able to swap like for like unless you trade and then the rules change seems arbitrary and pointless to me.
To be fair you can kind of do the first of your ideas, the players only lock when they've played so I'm not really sure what would change outside if you physically make the trades they lock.
Don't like the 2nd idea to be honest. I actually like that limited DPP can make certain players more appealing than they've otherwise be and think it should reflect players real positions.
Personally one thing I'd love to see, but will never happen, would be interest on the money in the bank, if you got say 10% interest per round it would become such a fascinating tactic and I reckon would massively diversify the starting teams as keeping money in the bank would become a strategy in itself.
Another possible idea that I think could be a good one would be to replace the emergencies with "loopholes" and you can nominate an onfield player and you get the better score of the pair, with the emergency system simply becoming that you get the "lowest score" on the bench for each donut at that position, obviously still able to field the player you wish to replace though. Positive of this as a player is you don't need to study the fixtures or be active over the weekend to achieve it, I guess the negative is it removes the luck/"skill" element in loopholing though.
