PIES DEFENDER CONSIDERING MOVE HOME

Collingwood defender Matthew Scharenberg is reportedly considering a move home to South Australia at year’s end.

The 25-year-old has struggled to cement a place in Collingwood’s senior side, with the former No. 6 draft pick managing just three games so far this season.

A report in the Herald Sun says Scharenberg’s family ties in South Australia, when coupled with the Adelaide Crows’ desire to rejuvenate their list, could lead to him joining the club at year’s end.

Yeah I know, all speculation at this stage, if anyone is going to Hawthorn I reckon it's Carlisle, he's on the outer at St Kilda, unless he produces if picked during their finals campaign.

CROWS COULD NAB FIRST-ROUND PICK FOR FREE

Adelaide’s wooden spoon has it in the box seat to land Giants midfielder Jackson Hately in the trade period, reports the Herald Sun.

GWS has a number of out-of-contract players being chased by rival clubs, with Hately one of three top 25 picks from the 2018 draft - along with Jye Caldwell and Xavier O’Halloran - now weighing up his options.

The Crows have inquired with the Giants about the South Australian teenager, who has played just 13 games in his first two years at the star-studded side.

Having missed out on Jack Graham, Hately now becomes an even more pressing target for Matthew Nicks’ side.

And having finished on the bottom of the ladder for the first time in club history, the Herald Sun’s report suggests the Crows would be willing to use the first pick in the pre-season draft on Hately.

Just three players have been picked in the last five pre-season drafts, with Carlton using it to pick up Jack Martin from Gold Coast last year.

In the pre-season draft, any club that can meet the player’s nominated contract is allowed to draft the player. The Blues didn’t have the first pick last year but got around that by heavily front-loading Martin’s contract.

Adelaide would not have to worry about that because, by finishing last, it earned the first pick in the draft.

BLUES DOUBLE EFFORTS FOR SAAD

Carlton have reportedly met with Essendon speedster Adam Saad “twice in recent days” as they up their efforts to poach the 26-year-old from the Bombers.

Essendon are set to ask for a first-round draft pick in return for Saad if he decides to turn down the club’s four-year deal, according to the Herald Sun.

Speaking on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast, Channel 7 reporter Tom Browne said a failed run at a premiership Tiger had the Blues doubling down on their chase for Saad.

“Carlton has missed out on Jack Graham and they’re upping their efforts for Saad,” he said.

“It’s my understanding they’ve spoken or met with Saad now twice in recent days.”

It’s believed a five-year deal worth between $2.75 and $3 million would be the price needed to poach the 26-year-old, which would be considerable money for Carlton considering they’re already set to sign outgoing Giant Zac Williams on a lucrative deal worth at least $850,000 a year.

Surely we wouldn’t use pick one on Hately, we'd be better off trying to trade pick 8 back to them for him, we're holding all the cards really.
