The fact that Eddie Betts, one of the greatest advertisements for the game there's ever been, is going to retire at a match with no fans is an absolute miscarriage of justice. ****ing covid.

Hopefully there'll be full crowds again by round 1 next year and he can do a lap of the MCG at half time against Richmond. It feels wrong that the fans won't be able to say goodbye. This obviously also goes for several other players in the same boat but my bias is clearly showing!

FREMANTLE defender Reece Conca’s time as a Docker will end this week after he was told he would not be offered a new contract.

Conca told teammates of the club’s decision on Wednesday morning and he will now explore other options in the game.

Conca played 150 games across an 11-season career with Richmond and Fremantle, firstly as a midfielder and later as a small defender.

WHO'S CALLED IT QUITS 2021's retirements and delistings

The 29-year-old crossed to the Dockers ahead of the 2019 season and quickly established himself as a respected member of the leadership group.

Conca played 10 games this season, executing a number of shutdown jobs on dangerous small forwards and last featuring in round 13.

He fell just short of triggering an automatic extension to his contract and has not ruled out continuing his career.

More to come

Pleasantly surprised about this as I thought he would probably seek a trade to get more opportunities. He is one player that I think hasn't been picked to play as much as he could have been, so wasn't sure how well the coaches rated him
Yeah, I'm a bit the same. With Hurley out, I was expecting to see more of him this year. He got a couple of games early but it appears Stewart playing as a defender has gone past him in the pecking order.

Laverde has reinvented himself as a back as well. Having a great season. Good to have depth and competition for spots.
