Harry Jones could be an option down back - I recall seeing positive comments on him in hawks scratch match and intraclub.

Watson from WCE had a big score but is fighting for spots down back. Hore was OK, took most of the kickouts but May, Lewis and Hibberd didn’t play. I didn’t think he had a good enough game to push ahead.

McKay could be better for scoring when he’s not playing as the main tall. Tarrant and Thompson to come back later to provide support. 60 odd from him is very good.

I’m running Collins, Clark (McKay, HJones)
Have the exact same four too.

Just curious if Harris is Jones (Haw) ?

Otherwise I have missed one.

Starting to look at McCarthy & Moore (Coll) myself to see if they are viable starters at F4 & F5.

Setterfield , Burgess , Parker seem likely at this stage , hoping Moore (Haw) & Petrucelle show a lot more I'm JLT2.

Not as bullish on the 4 rookie priced rookies from Port as most at this stage , not sure where they all fit in with Broadbent & Hartlett due back soon as well.
Oops, yeah that's his name Harrison Jones not Harris lol.

I looked at McCarthy as well but then checked his stats: his best season is 17 games at 54.6.
His other season game counts are 1, 0, 3, 0, 3 and 2, never averaging more than 61.
I think he's a JLT trap that will either get injured (poor guy) or make about 30k and average worse than a rookie.
The inspiring thing about his stats was that he recorded 8 tackles! if he had of had a typical small fwd type game where he kicked 4 goals to get the 100 sc id be very wary, but he got 2 goals 17 touches and 8 tackles, albeit vs a weak Hawks team, but if he averages say 1 goal, 14-15 touches and 4 or 5 tackles i reckon he can go at around 75-80ish, not super value but an option if he puts in another good performance and the fwd rookies look a little thin. If he doesn't look like keeping a consistent high tackle count i'll look elsewhere.

I reckon TOG % is as important if not more important than scores right now.

What are thoughts on the 2 GWS rookies, Caldwell and Hately?
I like Hatley of the two atm, seems a very similar player to Taranto. Taranto moves into Shiels role, Hatley into Tarantos. Already has the mans body to mix it with the big boys. Think they'll be relatively conservative with Caldwell to make sure his injuries don't reoccur.

Thanks Russ.

Where are you with the Port boys? I have Butters in my mids, but Drew did well too.

I think Butters & Rozee are definites for round 1, though I'm not sure Butters will play the same role as we saw on the weekend. Drew highly likely until Ollie is fit, who is either tracking extremely well or quite poorly depending on who you talk to, but after that is anyone's guess. Jury is still out for me on Duursma, id like him in the side but I'm not exactly sure where he fits at the moment.

I won't be surprised if all four are there round 1 though, no matter how the big wigs spin it, this is a "rebuild" year for us. I'm not sure throwing 4 kids to the Demons first up is they way to go about it though.

Collins only had 12 disposals and a low AFL Fantasy score. Not locked in for me yet.
AFL fantasy score isn't relevant to SC. He's going to play every game this season for them if fit, he broke a record for intercept marking in the VFL I believe (which would elevate his SC score relative to AFL fantasy as intercept marks score highly in SC) and the ball will be in their backline often. It's a no brainer in my book. He averaged 72 in his first season in the AFL, for $188k you would take that and guaranteed job security every week athough I think he will average higher than that this season.

I think the fact that Walsh averaged 142 at the u18 championships demonstrates he might be a better pick to a lot of people (including myself) than Brayshaw. I also agree with your point that it's easier to start him than not.
Has precedent too, Ollie Wines stands out in my memory, was a bit cheaper at $170k but played all 22 at a 74 average. $200k is probably worth it when you consider the value of the onfield points compared to other rookies.

I think Fantasy score is often useful, because it can tell you if a score was a bit flukey. I.e, Mills went at 83:106 because of 88%DE, which is probably good to be aware of as it's unlikely to be sustainable. That said, Collins is locked for me too, for the reasons AngryAnt mentions - his a favourable SC/DT ratio seems built into his role and should hopefully continue.

As a Geelong supporter you probably have a better idea of the set up down there but Clark did himself no harm with his JLT effort the other day. Needs to repeat it but I would not be surprised if he gets a run. Tuohy coming back may be an issue. Thurlow only played 7 games last year and was a fringe player while perhaps the rise of Kelly killed off the unreliable Murdoch. Round 1 tells the tale.
Murdoch (unfortunately) played 15 games and Cunico played 14 games, both mainly on a wing, so there's definitely oppourtunities there.
