Have put together a list of 104 rookie listed players here's how I have ranked
Truely awesome work ... thanks for sharing !!

Edit: the other side of the equation doing my head in is JS and depth for injury coverage ...

DEF: Not looking too bad ... can set up reasonably well for now ...
MID: Not looking too bad ... can set up reasonably well for now ...
FWD: This is the line I'm struggling with .... don't want to go super deep but might have to due to the lack of M/F rookie options this year ....

Anyone considering Davies-Uniacke? Where does he fit in at Roos this year? Good CBA numbers in JLT1 and got a lot of the ball, though it didn't translate into a big SC score.
I'd wait until Round 1 come around. If he's picked on-field then I'd take a punt. If he's on the bench then it's 50/50.
IMO he's doing all the right things, but that midfield group now runs a lot deeper than last year - so he has to keep his level up to get picked each week.

Based on JLT1, he looks primed to make a big jump from last year - he looks confident and has picked up the pace of the game - but I want to see that again in JLT2. A lot of his work wasn't rewarded early in the game which hurt his score a little, but overall he was very good.

Slightly elevated price, but could well be worth it - is on my watch list.

I’d say 50-50. Jacobs is still out, which gives him a chance. However, we have heaps of mids, so his JS is very shaky.

I would guess that he’d score 70-80 on average

Fantastic resource and thanks for sharing. Interested in your thought on Rankine. JS seems to be the main appeal or are you thinking a spike game might be how he justifies cash cow selection? Seems average may be limited.
I think he has great JS, not sure I can take him at his price though. think he could do 50s with the odd big game.

I think my team structurally may benefit from an M/F Floating Donut (preferably to play). If I end up with 3 fwd and 3 mid rookies on field, I can pivot Setters and Drew to allow looking at rookies on the mid bench and fwd bench every round.

So pinging @Lost In The Sky - Matthew Allen and Jarrod Cameron M/F look the best for this sort of role, are they any chance to play from say R7-R8 onwards? Might be hard to break into a premiership side. Any reason Matthew Allen didn't play in JLT1?

This might also be some useful forward planning for everyone, should Gibbons get a 90 in round one and everyone finding strange ways to try get him on field.

Matty Allen is an interesting one, He's entering his 4th year on our list now but still yet to debut, for his first two and a half seasons he was training and playing in the WAFL as a key forward because of his size, but halfway through last year they switched him into the midfield and played him as a big bodied midfielder (His junior footy was played as a mid), the change worked and was the equal winner of East Perths Club Champion award in the WAFL. This preseason he has dropped a lot of weight and trained with the midfield group.

Was named as an emergency in our first JLT game with West Coast electing to play a very strong team, so he is In that next bunch of players just out of the best 22. I expect him to debut this season at some stage, but when that happens is anyone's guess... As you said, breaking into the Premiership team isn't easy and especially when you have names like Shuey, Yeo, Gaff, Redden, and Sheed ahead of you in the midfield.

But he's a beautiful kick on his left foot, so strong WAFL form should get him a debut at some stage.

Cameron on the other hand did get a game on the weekend, he showed glimpses of brilliance but also showed that he is pretty raw and will take some time. The thing he has in his favour is the retirement of LeCras, which opened up a forward line spot. However I expect them to go with another tall in Oscar Allen after his terrific showing on the weekend. Allen managed a couple of games last season and looked completely at home so I reckon he is first in line for that spare spot, just ahead of Waterman and Brander.

A few bad games in a row by Liam Ryan or an injury to another small forward though might just see a debut from Cameron at some stage, I wouldn't expect too many games out of him, but we changed our mindset with regards to debuting players last year (A league high 8 debutants) so he might nab a game or two.

Awesome stuff. Sounds like both are chances of playing this year at some point and could be decent FD options. Would like to see Allen play JLT as I get the feeling he’d be the better scorer.

Just did a bit of late night reading on some of the WC and Haw boards to get a read on whether F Watson and H Jones are likely to lineup round 1 for their respective teams.

Unfortunately the vast majority think it’s unlikely that either of the above mentioned will be there round 1. It’s been acknowledged that both have had good pre-seasons and looked good in JLT1 but quite simply there just isn’t room for either of them.

Obviously the selection panels may have a different opinion so we’ll wait and see but might be something to keep in mind when putting our teams together for now.

McKay and Hore are a couple who are around the same price and while they may not have as good scoring potential as Watson and Jones, it sounds as though they’re more likely to play round 1 and beyond.

Yeah in Watson's case you nailed it... there just doesn't really seem to be a spot for him despite his great showing on the weekend, Hurn, Sheppard, Barrass, Gov, Jetta all pick themselves, and Tom Cole played most of last year and is now a Premiership defender... so Watson may have to wait for an injury or drop in form of one of those guys to get his chance.

Edit... Forgot my little mate Liam Duggan, can't see him losing his spot either to Watson.

Can’t remember a season where there have been so many of the more expensive rookie priced players looking like must haves.

I reckon most seasons I start with one or two that are 140k or over. As it stands, I have seven!
Hmmm - I've been largely offline this week, it appears I have a fair bit to catch up on!

I have Walsh, Collins, Setterfield and that's it ... who else do you include in your must have list?

Makes sense re watson. I wonder who they think is keeping Jones out? Supporters sometimes get it wrong too (possibly rating the usual players from previous years a bit higher than they should be). I feel he could be a chance with another strong performance.

It’s interesting you think Hore is still a fair chance. His JS looks iffy as an outsider - competing with guys like Lewis, Wagner, Frost?

Post JLT 1, down back I ended up with something pretty similar to what's being discussed:
Collins, Clark (Jones, Watson) with McKay as standby should one of those not be named.

I've tended to be terrible at picking rookies in this game so have taken to following the advice/observations of a few members in particular who seem to have extraordinary skill at it.
Hehe - you're probably not alone there. Could do worse too!

Clark, Butters and Hately if named round 1. Also had Z Clarke at the time of writing that post but doesn’t sound like we’ll be seeing him round 1.

Lewis is a lock. Frost is line-ball for round 1 and I don’t think Wagner plays round 1.

Hore isn’t a lock by any means but my gut feel is he plays round 1 and I’m seeing him in a lot of other fellow supporters round 1 teams. The fact he took a kick-in or two in JLT1 couldn’t hurt his chances.

Lewis, Salem and Hib might be the preferred kick in takers but fingers crossed for Hore.
