Matty Allen is an interesting one, He's entering his 4th year on our list now but still yet to debut, for his first two and a half seasons he was training and playing in the WAFL as a key forward because of his size, but halfway through last year they switched him into the midfield and played him as a big bodied midfielder (His junior footy was played as a mid), the change worked and was the equal winner of East Perths Club Champion award in the WAFL. This preseason he has dropped a lot of weight and trained with the midfield group.
Was named as an emergency in our first JLT game with West Coast electing to play a very strong team, so he is In that next bunch of players just out of the best 22. I expect him to debut this season at some stage, but when that happens is anyone's guess... As you said, breaking into the Premiership team isn't easy and especially when you have names like Shuey, Yeo, Gaff, Redden, and Sheed ahead of you in the midfield.
But he's a beautiful kick on his left foot, so strong WAFL form should get him a debut at some stage.
Cameron on the other hand did get a game on the weekend, he showed glimpses of brilliance but also showed that he is pretty raw and will take some time. The thing he has in his favour is the retirement of LeCras, which opened up a forward line spot. However I expect them to go with another tall in Oscar Allen after his terrific showing on the weekend. Allen managed a couple of games last season and looked completely at home so I reckon he is first in line for that spare spot, just ahead of Waterman and Brander.
A few bad games in a row by Liam Ryan or an injury to another small forward though might just see a debut from Cameron at some stage, I wouldn't expect too many games out of him, but we changed our mindset with regards to debuting players last year (A league high 8 debutants) so he might nab a game or two.
