Didn’t get to watch the Port game yesterday, anyone care to shed some light on how Georgiades went? Stats aren’t anything to write home about.
I thought he looked out of place a little from what I saw of him, seemed to not pick the game up speed wise at times but was certainly serviceable. I think if he pulls up okay he'll have another run so they can have a good look at him. Difficult set-up though Ports forward line with a few still to come back. I think Westhoff is the one the club needs to make a decision on quickly as he seems to hamper development of some of the young guys getting game time.

Not sure TBH ... but a couple of stats I did recall hearing during commentary ...

- PTA had the most FWD entries last year with an ave of 58 per game ...
- But ranked 17th for their effectiveness of them .... I think IIRC ...

So what is his role in the team .... to provide that contest .... can live with that but might not be great for his SC output ...
- Isn't that why Lycett apparently got dropped ... FWD line competitiveness ...

Watched bits and pieces, 9 touches in 3 quarters of footy. he didn't see much of it in the 3rd, then managed in the last. Missed a set shot from 25 out dead in front in the first quarter. Took a grab at half back, can't say I focused too much on him. I'll check the recording later tonight and get back to you.

The rookies usually show up at the end, but early days, I'm not seeing the names to put on my midfield bench....

McHenry and RCD potentially a R1 chance but their spots are still far from certain. JSharp, ESmith, Mahoney, CStephens were not that great on the weekend and I doubt they play R1. Starcevich seems to be behind a few at the Lions (namely, Birchall, Answerth, Witherden, Rich) but has shown at least some scoring potential. Valente has had an interrupted preseason so I doubt he plays Marsh let alone R1. MHibberd potentially in the same boat.

I've put my thoughts on a potential M11 FD in this thread. Otherwise, we may need to start a DStephens or Serong type on our mid benches...!

@pizza safety good pickup, seems Young has some sort of injury which Freo are keeping quiet on. Missed training with the main group as well and did weights instead

FREMANTLE draftee Hayden Young appears to have hit an obstacle in his push for an early debut, joining the Dockers' rehab group on Monday.

Young, who was on track for early opportunities after a strong first pre-season, missed Fremantle's intraclub hitout on Friday and did not train with the Dockers' main group on Monday.

The No.7 pick in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft completed running work with trainers at the Dockers' Cockburn base, dragging weights and moving well.

The reason for his withdrawal from the main training group is not clear, with football manager Peter Bell hopeful on Friday that he would still receive early opportunities.

"If not in the Marsh [Community] Series, I know that with what he's done so far he's put himself in a position where potentially there will be an opportunity early," Bell said after the Dockers' intraclub.
From the tone of this quote, my interpretation is that the injury is relatively minor and Young might be ok for round 1 or possibly round 2/3 at the worst ( my interpretation). If this is the case, then I might be willing to start him and possibly use as a donut until he plays.... Any thoughts on this approach (especially given the lack of viable rookies at this stage)

I'd need some strong indication he would be right for R2 if that was the case. I presume in this scenario Young would not play Marsh at all. I think if there was another def rookie that played R1, I would take them, but if not, I'd take Young.

So long as you’re confident that he’ll play and have adequate cover in the meantime, it’s viable in my view. His cash gen would come later than others’, but a good amount of cash that takes a while is generally better than not enough cash coming quickly.

Yeah, that pretty much what I’m thinking. R 2/3 is too early for a downgrade, but I guess we could use a correction trade to bring him in as an alternative. None of these approaches is ideal so may just need to be flexible and take a little more risk than usual .

You can still wait the two weeks until he’s on the bubble - you may miss out on a few points, but you get good info - so long as you’re not crowding out another trade. I agree with your last point - taking a slightly non-textbook approach may be warranted if the circumstances are different this year.

As a more general comment, though, I think it’s worth bearing in mind that there’s still nearly four weeks to go. I don’t wish injuries on anyone, but they’re a fact of life - some will occur in that time, and if they occur in certain circumstances, this might all be a non-issue.

just curious with people worried about a lack of $ 123,900.00 midfield options , what are they expecting Pickett (if named) to average ?

Not sure TBH .... one good game ... might be over hyped ... bench to start for me until I see a pattern ...
M9 for me for the first game as well , Richmond have 4-5 after Ellis spot......Graham , Rogss , Stack to name 3 , maybe he is not the ultra lock he we think he is

I thought he looked fantastic. Took some nice grabs. Moved well. Looked at home. He seemed to pick up some slight injury / knock and was barely sighted / rested after half time. I'm really happy with him a pick for Ports future forward line but I seriously doubt he will be in my supercoach team this year.

Geez. The one rookie we absolutely do have clarity about, and you want him sitting on the bench?

Why would you make life that difficult ....

If you’re not starting Pickett because you don’t have a pattern, does that mean you’re not starting any rookies?
