Blues caretaker set to spring selection shock

Tim Michell

Jon Anderson reports…

Carlton is on the verge of pulling a selection shock as it prepares for its first game under caretaker coach David Teague.
The Herald Sun believes the Blues might pick rookie forward Matt Owies as they try to turn up the pressure valve inside their forward 50.
Carlton last year selected the one-time St Kevin’s College student in the rookie draft.
The 22-year-old gave footy away after Year 9 to concentrate on basketball, the 180cm forward heading to the US on a scholarship to pursue his hoop dreams.

The Cats had also showed interest in Owies but the Blues swooped.
He has bolted into selection contention after a couple of strong performances for the Northern Blues in the VFL.
Carlton believes Owies shows potential as a small pressuring forward, an area in which they have struggled to replace since the departure of Eddie Betts, Chris Yarran and Jeff Garlett.
The Blues, who sacked Brendon Bolton earlier in the week after slumping to a 1-10 record, face the Brisbane Lions at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

I'm surprised they've tried to mould a midfielder as a pressure forward. We've seen how well he can go when released to the wing. Hoping for heaps of positional changes.
Well Bolton played Ed Curnow, Murphy and a few others well out of the middle this year so it's not surprising that the kids after the first month started getting smashed in the midfield by seasoned midfields starting to get beat up on them as they tired. I think getting a few of the more veteran types back in there might happen from now.

Lloyd and Taylor over Hately.

How many teammates has Hately slept with including Leon’s daughter (that we already know for a fact).
Taylor and Williams will come in before Hately I imagine - if Greene misses also this might open the door but wouldn't hold my breath.
