Probably posted on the wrong thread...trying to decide who to trade first out of King and Taylor (Smith comes in), thinking Taylor even though King has the lower BE, Taylor's 15 drops out next week and he looks to have a better scoring profile.

Not at all happy with my trade options this week - I need 3 trades this week, not next week!

Pretty much locked in one trade in bringing in Egg for Rowell (Rivers or Starcevich to midfield). I need to do a downgrade this week or I will run out of cash this season. Egg seems the best option to me. The second trade is the problem (made worse with Simpkin missing).

===

Option 1 is to bring in Whitfield or B.Smith for King. This means keeping Pittonet for another week, who will be even more expensive to replace next round. This gives me a field of:

Docherty, Sicily, Short, Hurn, B.Williams, Egg

Mitchell, Boak, Greenwood, Bont, Cogs, D.Smith, two of (Serong, Hibberd, McInerney, Budarick, Rivers, Starcevich)

Grundy, Pittonet

Petracca, Dusty, Whitfield/Smith, Hill, Rankine, Aarts

===

Option 2 is to trade in English for Pittonet. This gives me either 4 rookies up forward with zero bench cover or having to play 3 of the above midfield rookies (if named) if I swing a DPP to the forward line.

Docherty, Sicily, Short, Hurn, B.Williams, Egg

Mitchell, Boak, Greenwood, Bont, Cogs, D.Smith, and two of (Serong, Hibberd, McInerney, Budarick, Rivers, Starcevich)

Grundy, English

Petracca, Dusty, King, Hill, Rankine, Aarts

===

Not liking either option a lot, I think I nearly have to go with the second option, but that gives one weak looking forward line - half of them scored 50's last week, and even less for 2-3 scores in midfield. I don't have any other bench players I can use instead except for possibly Brander who is in defence in either option, so expecting to have a shocker this round.
I’m not sure English is that good a buy personally. How much cash in bank do you have? Can you find a way to get Gawn?

I think if you can manage, Rowell to McPherson or Porter and then Pitonett to Gawn, I would take those options.

Getting Gawn will make this season a lot easier.

Eggy and Bailey Smith for Sturt and Williamson. That looks like big points on the ground this week for me.... Shores up leaky d6 and forwards full with Rankine holding up f6 for now..... Trying to eliminate these **** onfield rookie scores. Leaves me with only 2 of Pickett/Bennell/Starc to ride the lightning with onfield. That's if Egg and Rankine can hit their straps and hold up.....

I have Simpson. I was considering Mayes but now TBH I am leaning towards MacPherson so I can hide Rivers in my mids rather than having no bench cover in defence. Plus $60K cheaper and hopefully less of that JS question than Mayes.
That's my downgrade option this week, McP.
As long as he gets named, he is coming in.

Yeah, I'm a bit short of getting to Gawn unfortunately, so English might be the best I can do. Could get to Goldy by bringing in McPherson but that's not ideal.

Still got a few hours to work on it, I'm sure when the teams are named that will change things again, so not stressing over it yet, I'm sure I'll find something I am comfortable with.

Thanks though.

Will wait on teams, but might just go King > Smith

There aren't any rookies that I don't have that I really want, and will still have $100k in the bank

That's unfortunate.... I think in that case, I'd just hold Pit. I think BSmith for King is the best upgrade for you in the meantime.

You can only just hope Pit turns back to his older form and can punch out another 100+ score to keep his price stable for a few more weeks.

Tough call but Pittonet dropping in price and not scoring well.

Similar position. Was all set to get Gawn but can only do it by downgrading king/noble to $ 102 k rookie and don’t think this is the week to make compromised trades. We are likely to be stuck with who we bring in for the rest Of the year. Hence I may instead hold pitto fir another week and hope he shows signs of life against a depleted Roos outfit.

Thanks for the reply. If I hear of a solid reason to not select Houston, I won't.

I don't know much about Houston's current role in the team, that is not helpful to me.
Burton didn't play Rds 3, 4 & 5 and Houston scores were 73, 76, 117. Houston then went on to score 109 & 107 in the next 2 rounds. Small sample, so I'm not sure it is helpful. Just maybe the 23yo, with 67 played games, is taking the next step.

My selection of Houston is influenced on the following information:

Preseason, Michael Voss said Houston is set to play a midfield role on a permanent basis in 2020.

Hinkley said Houston trained the whole pre-season with the midfield group.

Monday, 17 February 2020
Dan Houston is relishing his permanent switch to the midfield, revealing he never thought it would happen until getting his chance midway through 2019.
"I thought I'd be down back for the majority of my career. Obviously last year in China, Rocky pulling out late, sort of opened that door a little bit, but I'd always gone in there at training to help improve my skills in that area," Houston said.
It's the first time Houston has completed a full pre-season as a midfield having started his career as a forward before moving into defence.
"I found last year I was trying to learn during the game and not so much during the week at training," he said.
"I think my running's improved, so I feel like I can get from contest to contest and get around the ground really well compared to last year."
Lee Gaskin for AFL.com.au
This was in the H/Sun on June 19th
"
After a slow start, there were issues, but now there is officially a problem with Dan Houston in KFC SuperCoach.
Power coach Ken Hinkley confirmed former skipper Ollie Wines will return, replacing the injured Ryan Burton, on Friday
And, without spelling it out specifically, Hinkley hinted it will be Houston, who started his career as a defender, going back to help out against the Dockers.
“It’s pretty logical, isn’t it, for us, we’re not going to expose someone who’s not got any great defensive awareness and Dan’s basically played his whole career bar this year as a defender,” he said as his side prepared to make the trip north.
“It’s a pretty simple move for us and I’m sure even Fremantle won’t be surprised by that.”
After an impressive finish to last season in the middle, and a standout summer on the track, the classy right-footer attended 13 of a possible 18 centre bounces in Round 1 and finished with 19 disposals and 79 points against the Suns.
But, with the injury to Burton and the Connor Rozee-Travis Boak duo firing on all cylinders in the midfield, Houston took a back seat in Showdown 48, taking his place at the restart of play just seven times against the Crows.
Houston will continue to be playmaker in defence for Port but his SuperCoach scoring is unlikely to improve back there. At least not enough to make him a top-six candidate, anyway.
With a Round 3 breakeven of 123, if the rest of your team is sound, it’s time to consider a trade."

I had him & traded him out after rd 3, so I watched his scores closely. I haven't watched every game they have played though

100% buy Rankine this week for those who don’t have.

I’m weighing up which of Simpson/Mayes I’ll bring in this week, I’ve backflipped a little and am now preferring Simpson +30k in the back pocket @Ben's Beasts
I just can't do Mayes... but I also have problems with nearly all of the Go-home Lions fellows... Docherty the exception. Maybe Yeo, if he wasn't so up and do

I have Simpson. I was considering Mayes but now TBH I am leaning towards MacPherson so I can hide Rivers in my mids rather than having no bench cover in defence. Plus $60K cheaper and hopefully less of that JS question than Mayes.
Houston's role in the team and position might just have something to do with Rockliff & Wines and see how they affect his SC scoring.

Just a idea ?
Also, in the getting smacked in the head/Rozee theme, someone... Maybe a giant? Broke Houston's ? in a preseason game... Possibly a confidence thing? Every single SC authority said to get rid of him after a few weeks of poor scores... I kept only because I had injury and rookie needs. Time will tell, but he's been solid for my backline last few weeks

Not saying you are wrong, but it is possible it went something like.
Got injured, unable to continue.
Got injection, and went back out there. No pain now.
Made injury worse, but didn't know until shot wore off.
Match day adrenaline and 1-2 injections works amazingly , seem to remember he went down to the rooms twice.
Yes, quite possible.

I have to go Pittonet to Gawn, because one is a great footballer and one isn't.

All the numbers point to going Brown to Bailey Smith.

I think I am going to go Luke Ryan based on the playing at home v playing away factor.

Also the price changes of Pittonet and Gawn last week means that i can't afford Daniel or Sicily.

Stuff it. It's Ryan over Smith...depending on teams!

Take into account the round 10 bye Fremantle share with three other teams.

I'm in the same boat, wanting to bring in both, but can only get 1 this week. Petracca @ $544k is almost getting too expensive for a FWD for me, so my logic is that, if I wait 1 week for him, I won't want to bring him in next week (when he'll likely go up another $20k (give or take)).

Conversely, if Smith (@ $409k) goes up $20k (give or take) this week, I'll still be more than happy to pay $430k for him next week.

I know, logically it's the same spend over 2 weeks, but I can easily see myself skipping Petracca next week if he's around $565k, so I'll probably get him first.
I agree, I’d prefer to get Petracca this week and Smith next week.

lol. This random bye thing makes trades more difficult!

I think I might go Gresham! I wanted to start him this year. His non injured scores have been good.

Interesting with Derek Eggmolesse-Smith is he going to be able to rebound aswell against the better sides in the next 5 weeks. He has GWS, Bulldogs, Lions, Port and Suns. The ball should get into the D50 alot just might be under alot of pressure, interesting hmm.
